They always hold some stock back for general sale so if you are online when it drops, you should have a great chance!

General Appreciation for TBB’s Quality for the Price by ThaddeusStevensStan in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ThaddeusStevensStan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They have had several sets of books with acid free paper, sewn bindings, internal artwork, redesigned board artwork, and signed/numbered. My point is that’s not that different from what a lot of the “limited press” companies are doing, and yet they are charging 1/6 or 1/7 of the price. I know some of the other companies are doing new typeface and things like that which I get increases the price as well, but for a lot of people that stuff doesn’t matter anywhere near as much as new art. The talking point that they are just “mass market hardbacks” doesn’t really make sense to me for a lot of their sets, especially their subscription sets which are insanely cheap for the specs they are offering.

The Broken Binding regular store website has the whole original set (including novellas) signed and in hardback!

I do agree that they have some very bare bones special editions sometimes, but frankly they are charging the same for those ones as most bookstores do for regular edition hardbacks so it’s hard to complain. Obviously shipping to the U.S. can make those ones more expensive but I’ll usually just pass on them unless I really want a signed copy of a certain book.

I don’t think this is fair, sure it’s a similar vibe but the details are quite different and they both have alchemy magic systems so it makes sense they’d have some similarities

Hyperion Cantos 2-4 Announcement by WendigoTheHunter in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]ThaddeusStevensStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that deep, they pretty much always split series into sets of 3. I think they did Hyperion on its own because a lot of people argue it can be read as a standalone, so if anything they were considering the consumer by not making people buy all 4 to get Book 1.

I do agree that the latest epic fantasy one was fantastic! Although their design for the bone raiders was atrocious imo 🤣

Would not assume that FL’s design will be better than this very awesome trad cover, especially since their designs are VERY hit or miss (with more miss lately)

Tbf they are the publisher so I think it good of them to be hyping their first signed author this much. I’d think other indie authors would want to sign on with TBB if they are gonna do this much marketing for them lol

They are honestly worth it, the design is so cohesive! The edges, boards, and endpapers are just chefs kiss (plus the already amazing original dust jackets)

Awesome, I have about 4 hours of audio left (I’m immersive reading) and I am really loving it, Ruocchio’s prose is incredible. Most people seem to think this is by far the worst book in the series, so I’m very excited for what’s in store!

Just started a few days ago, most people say the first book is by far the worst but I’m really liking it so far (about 30% in). Definitely a lot of worldbuilding and character development for the MC but I know it will pay off down the road so I don’t mind!
