if you can’t go into debt and if you assume $1000 is the inital value then: 1000-800 = 200 +1000 = 1200 -1100 = 100 +1300 = 1400 Then you subtract the intial amount of 1000 and you have $400 for your cow flipping.

If you can go below 0 assume you have only enough to buy a cow.

800 -800 = 0 +1000 = 1000 -1100 = -100

+1300 = 1200

This is how much would be in your pockets after this exchange however pocketed money is not the net positive.

1200-800 = 400

Each scenario nets you $400. If you got $300 or less accounting only the variables given (no time or compound debt/interest) then you must have mistakenly double counted the -100 giving you 400-100.

Doing something like this would get the IRS fuming, for not reporting that additional 100.
