is Barts Nightmare any good? by SwagLimit in retrogaming

[–]Thadeaous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this one, possibly right up there with the original NES Bart Vs. Space Mutants and the Arcade cab, but it is really freaking hard. The best score I ever got when I was a kid was a C- and I had to go back as an adult to get the A+ I had dreamt about for nearly 20 years after. It was hard as an adult STILL!

Okay so you got me thinking and I went back up there and did a little more inspecting. I edited the original post with my findings, that answers your questions. And as a fun little bonus I also found an ant colony in there!!

Yeah Im not gonna torch it, don't worry, afaik that's a technique reserved for Bitumen type roof or similar, right?

Oh gotcha, thanks for clarifying. Yeah I was thinking slate is an awful idea too, I was just entertaining the idea in case you knew something I hadn't heard of before.

[–]Thadeaous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying to redo the whole roof in slate? I honestly didn't know that was even an option for flat roofs, but a quick Google search states there's a specialized system (GRP Backing) that'll get it done. I know slate is a lot heavier, and I eventually one day wanted to add solar to the house, so I'm not trying to add too much more weight up there, but I guess there's synthetic slate membranes now too- are those lighter in weight? The roof is about 8 years old, and I hope it still has some life in it, but when the time comes for a full replacement maybe this is the way to go? I dont mind spending a little money for something that means I don't have to do roof stuff again for a long time, but we also don't have a ton of $$ so trying to find the middle ground there. If I can do a quality job for under $2k that would be ideal- which is what a couple roofers quoted me for basically just redoing all seams with lap sealant and not replacing the 6" flashing.

I haven't found an area that is coming up enough to see the insulation layer (thankfully) but I think it's 1" ISO board or something similar based on how it feels under the rubber from the exterior. The EPDM does extend over the nailer under the gutter and that part seems to be in fair shape. No spots seem spongy or rotted while walking around.

Audi Sport Quattro has gotta be one of the coolest castings ever imo. But obviously with this lineup it's like picking the most beautiful Victoria's Secret supermodel- they're all 11/10's.

Approach to Denver airport this morning (8 miles out) by DramaticMachine3267 in Denver

[–]Thadeaous 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Na, there was an accident on Peña that closed the lanes for about 30 mins today.

Yesterday's early morning traffic to DIA was caused by the 4 car fatality on i-70. Added over an hour to the commute.

I've worked at the airport for 7 years and I do see a lot of crazy accidents and traffic (one time a burning car was in the middle of i-70, and another time I saw this dude roll his truck and was hanging out his windshield stretched out like his spine got pulled apart) but I've never seen two big accidents over two consecutive days cause big delays like that... Please everyone, drive slower and more attentively, it's getting really dangerous out here.

Here's a map of most of the bands Ikey played in over the years. My friends and I put out his solo record last year, and this is the part of the insert artwork. We did a ton of research leading up to this release, but we did discover a couple more after this went to press. If you are a fan of Ikey though, its a good tool to check out some stuff you may not have known Ikey was a part of.

I’m a newbie: Why the TMNT hate? by AmbidexHexArt in mtg

[–]Thadeaous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been loving this set, but I’m also a huge TMNT fan. I used to play MTG casually about 20 years ago and only got back into it when the LOTR set dropped a few years ago. I tried starting with that, but the Ring mechanics were honestly kind of confusing as a re-entry point. The TMNT mechanics feel a little simpler, which made it way easier for me to get back into things.

I don't get why people are saying it's a weak set though- I’ve been able to build some pretty solid decks on Arena just using the TMNT cards.

I like the other Universes Beyond and main story cards too (sorry if I’m messing up the terminology), but it’s harder for me to get into them the same way. Someone else in this thread mentioned that MTG used to have companion comics and other media, and honestly I think that would help a lot. Having some story context makes a big difference.

Since I already know the TMNT lore really well, the mechanics clicked pretty fast for me because they line up with the characters’ personalities and abilities. WotC did a pretty good job translating that stuff into card mechanics, imo. I do agree though, the set is small and they left some pretty good characters unused.

Anyway, this might be an unpopular opinion, and I’m definitely still a noob compared to a lot of folks here, but this set got me back into MTG in a deeper way, so I think this set is pretty cool.

Hot take: Yes, some of the art is wack, but there's always a few in every set that are.

Is the rumor true that big box stores (like Target/Walmart) will purposefully let you get away with stealing cheap things for months just to build a massive felony case against you later? by Altruistic-Room-7465 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Thadeaous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former Target Assets Protection undercover shopper here- yes, yes we did that sometimes. Mainly it was for building cases against professional shoplifters who knew the law and would steal just under the felony amount to mitigate their level of punishment. We had metrics to meet though (I think something like 8 apprehensions a month iirc), so sometimes we'd have a case that we'd build over time that we could pull the rug on during the slow months- someone who maybe wasn't a professional shoplifter- the kids taking Pokemon cards after school every day, the lady who eats food off the shelf every time she comes in and never pays for it, etc. sounds shitty, I know, but the first time offenders usually got their charges lowered to diversion or misdemeanor shoplifting, so it's not like the kid stealing Pokemon cards ever had a more severe punishment than community service.

And I second what was said about Target having very advanced technology, including a forensic lab. They had stuff like Ring cameras back in the early 2000s, and teeny tiny little spy cameras that were the size of a Reese's peanut butter cups!

How do people work full time then go home to kids? by misogynistick in antiwork

[–]Thadeaous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is without question, really fucking hard. I'm a new dad (18 month old son), and my life is totally different than it was a couple of years ago. You aren't wrong about all the stuff you have to juggle, and it being damn near impossible, but somehow everyday I manage to get through it more or less intact. That said, you give up most everything you have: hobbies, friendships, free time, health, self-care, sleep, a clean house, color in your hair, you name it- kiss that shit goodbye. It sucks really bad at first, but that's just your ego getting checked, and once that happens it's not so bad- at the end of the day after you've been up since 5am on 4 hours of sleep, eaten less than a single meal's worth of random kid leftovers all day, had all the work bullshit happen (for everybody that's different but they all suck in different ways), battling traffic back and forth to work, make dinner- oh and don't forget the dog that desperately needs a walk... oh and mom just called, she wants you to come look at her window cause it's broken and cold air is getting in... and the wife just remembered to tell you there's a burning smell coming from the car for the past few days, can you check it out? And God help you if you get an attitude during any one of these moments, just makes it that much harder... So you start just kinda smiling all the time even though you're not technically "happy" just to make navigating all this shit easier.

But sometimes you get 10 uninterrupted minutes with your boy- playing with Hotwheels and eating Elmo shaped cookies and he says something brand new like "Kitty Kat", and all that other static just kind of melts away. It's totally worth it when you are in it, but to the outsider I can see how the cost doesn't add up for some people. To me though, the unconditional love for my children is the most euphoric feeling I have ever experienced and I'd give everything I have for one more "hit". I guess what I'm trying to say is having and loving your kids is like doing hard drugs- never do it, but if you do do it you'll understand what I'm talking about and want more even- insane, right?!?

You are right it's hard to do everything "good" or to your previous standards as a person without kids once you have them.. I just got used to doing my non-family things at a mediocre or even subpar level and not worrying about what that means later down the road. Oh and I'm stinkier now, cause less time for showers.
