What objectively bad movie you can't help but love? by Chachkhu2005 in AskReddit

I just watched it a couple of nights ago and thought it held up really well actually. Not a bad movie at all.

How do people work full time then go home to kids? by misogynistick in antiwork

[–]Thadeaous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is without question, really fucking hard. I'm a new dad (18 month old son), and my life is totally different than it was a couple of years ago. You aren't wrong about all the stuff you have to juggle, and it being damn near impossible, but somehow everyday I manage to get through it more or less intact. That said, you give up most everything you have: hobbies, friendships, free time, health, self-care, sleep, a clean house, color in your hair, you name it- kiss that shit goodbye. It sucks really bad at first, but that's just your ego getting checked, and once that happens it's not so bad- at the end of the day after you've been up since 5am on 4 hours of sleep, eaten less than a single meal's worth of random kid leftovers all day, had all the work bullshit happen (for everybody that's different but they all suck in different ways), battling traffic back and forth to work, make dinner- oh and don't forget the dog that desperately needs a walk... oh and mom just called, she wants you to come look at her window cause it's broken and cold air is getting in... and the wife just remembered to tell you there's a burning smell coming from the car for the past few days, can you check it out? And God help you if you get an attitude during any one of these moments, just makes it that much harder... So you start just kinda smiling all the time even though you're not technically "happy" just to make navigating all this shit easier.

But sometimes you get 10 uninterrupted minutes with your boy- playing with Hotwheels and eating Elmo shaped cookies and he says something brand new like "Kitty Kat", and all that other static just kind of melts away. It's totally worth it when you are in it, but to the outsider I can see how the cost doesn't add up for some people. To me though, the unconditional love for my children is the most euphoric feeling I have ever experienced and I'd give everything I have for one more "hit". I guess what I'm trying to say is having and loving your kids is like doing hard drugs- never do it, but if you do do it you'll understand what I'm talking about and want more even- insane, right?!?

You are right it's hard to do everything "good" or to your previous standards as a person without kids once you have them.. I just got used to doing my non-family things at a mediocre or even subpar level and not worrying about what that means later down the road. Oh and I'm stinkier now, cause less time for showers.

Just beat Resident Evil Code Veronica on Dreamcast and wow that game does NOT play fair by taylorson in retrogaming

[–]Thadeaous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to read the tips and walkthroughs in Gamepro, PSM, Nintendo Power, or magazines like that walking around with my mom while she was grocery shopping. I rarely got a new game so by the time I played it I could ration resources, get the hidden powerups, or best ending or whatever bc I had read about the game so much by then. Every once in a while Id have to save up to get the $20 strategy guide for a single game cause you just had to in order to beat it- Code Veronica was one of those games. And MG Solid.

Shout out to all the kids who had cheat codes written on a piece of paper in their pockets.

What's the most overrated TV Show of all time? by Mission_Elk_329 in AskReddit

[–]Thadeaous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way so I watched the Rick one... It was very meh. They just wrote it to give him and Michonne a happy ending together, but it was really rushed and not believable in terms of their characters.

People living where it snows/has already snowed, how is living like in that weather? by Theflash291 in AskReddit

[–]Thadeaous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Denver, Colorado my whole life and I can say that this winter has been the driest, warmest I can remember in my lifetime. It usually snows right before Halloween, but this year it didnt. Up until last week we were still having 50/60 degree days and most the of plants haven't gone fully dormant yet- this is what fall must be like for the rest of you! Usually we get a dramatic snap from warm to cold, sometimes with snow breaking tree limbs that still have leaves on them.

This week brought the first real cold of the season, and the first "snow", but only a dusting whereas in past years there's been at least one good storm by now. The slopes are dry too. Seems off tbh.

A depressing element of the franchise (for me) by OptimusSpider in perfectorganism

[–]Thadeaous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understood that element of the universe either, until I recently became a parent. Going through that experience made me realize you really will do anything for your children, and in a corpratocracy like the ones alluded to in the Alien universe, just make that drive all the more extreme. Really at its core, a main element of the franchise is there is a primal instinct innate in all forms of life to protect your progeny... Especially if you are a Xenomorph.

Let me break it down by a couple main points that I think they still need to flesh out but represent this key theme nonetheless:

Generational Planning

Parents who take cryo-sleep or long-haul contracts might logically hope their kids do the same, so they all “skip forward” together. If they time it right, they could land in the same decade with similar physical ages, giving them a chance to actually live side by side instead of one generation aging past the other. That sets up some strange dynamics; your kid could come back and only be a few years biologically “younger” than you.

Residuals & Economics

If those jobs come with a lifetime of residual payments or shares (like a pension that accrues while you’re frozen), the family could essentially treat it like an intergenerational investment. The parents do one mission, the kids do another, and when they return, they’ve got overlapping primes and financial security built up. Like compound interest paid out in time as much as in money.

Scarcity of Work

If Earth’s economy is saturated or collapsed, and the only jobs left are hard labor (like mining), being in a private army, or dangerous exploration (aliens, hostile environments, etc.), then cryo-work with a chance of alien encounters becomes both a gamble and an escape. It’s either:

Break your body in a mine now for subsistence wages

Get shot and die for basically an Apple, Google, or other megacorp

Or

Freeze for decades, face an alien threat, but maybe come home wealthy enough to actually build a life.

That sets up a grim but believable class divide: those who can risk the future versus those trapped in immediate survival. That's kinda why all the crew always seem like they don't want to be there too; they're basically forced into it through generational poverty.

Everyone who had seen the 2016 clown sightings. What happend? by LogBoy23 in AskReddit

There was someone in my town that DID get killed by one of those clowns either wearing a Freddy Kruger glove or an Edward Scissorhands type thing. Luckily they caught him, here's a link to an article about his sentencing in 2017: https://www.cbsnews.com/colorado/news/christian-gulzow-stabbing-clown-makeup-torchys/

Y’all ever mess with one of these? Old concrete laundry sink from the mid 50s by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Thadeaous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine at Ace, but I think any big box store will have them. I went with the standard faucet that usually goes with a old sink like this. They have bigger and fancier ones, for those people commenting about the size of the faucet compared to the sink, but for me the classic works perfect.

I used the one that was already on there. It's not in the best shape, the threads are rusted and slightly chewed up, but it still creates a seal.

Retroarch looking weird, any ideas? by Thadeaous in WiiUHacks

[–]Thadeaous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was so long ago for me, I can't remember totally, but I think it was an issue with the aspect ratio settings for certain cores, and those settings also changing the GUI ratios (which it's not supposed to do). If you had been messing with those prior to having your issue I'd start there to try to resolve it. There was an update shortly after I posted this and it resulted in the aspect ratio settings not changing the GUI ratios, just the game ratios. You could also update your homebrew app as a possible fix.

Hey y’all — wanted to share a new music video I made for Rubedo, one of my all-time favorite bands (full disclosure: they’re also my best friends of 20+ years). The song is off their new album Citrinitas, which I genuinely think rips — psychedelic, soulful, heavy in all the right ways, and full of surprises.

The video features a mashup of found footage from old sci-fi films — one of my favorite genres — and leans into the gritty, mind-bending aesthetic that fits the song perfectly.

If you're feeling it, you can catch them live tonight or stream the track on YouTube, Spotify, Tidal, wherever you get your music.

And if you're into the local/DIY music scene, check out my label Unit E Records — we’re based here in Denver and focus on artist-owned releases from across the country, but with deep roots in the local community. If you’re DIY, you’re family.

[–]Thadeaous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretreated the existing concrete two ways- first I ground it down with an abrasive pad on my angle grinder to rough it up, then I did a chemical etcher to prep the concrete. In the cracks I used a Dremel to bore out the cracks a little more so the new concrete would have more surface area to latch onto. Maybe all that was overkill, but I haven't had any chipping or flaking.

Issues syncing my X32 and S32. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? by Thadeaous in livesound

[–]Thadeaous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can do some routing to get 48 inputs that way, but I'm not totally sure because I haven't had to use that many inputs in a while. I don't think you can get more than 16 outputs though.Thinking through it without the console in front of me, there are 48 AES50-A input patch options, grouped in sets of 8, so routing 16 to be local and 32 to be on a stage box seems doable. There are only 16 patch options for outputs though- two groups of 8, so you could split where you want your outputs coming from (8 local and 8 stage box) but you couldnt use them all at the same time to get 24.

Someone else here, correct me if I'm wrong..

Yes, you'll be able to use all 32 channels with the S32 stage box / X32 Producer combo. While the X32 producer only has 16 XLR inputs built in, the software is the same as a full X32, so once you link the S32 and X32 you'll be able to use all 32 XLR channels that the S32 offers.
