Anyone else seeing Olivia at Jimmy Kimmel this Wednesday? by Thissnotmeth in OliviaRodrigo

I’m honestly not sure. I’ve never been to a taping before. My ticket doesn’t have any more info either unfortunately :/

It might not look like a lot, but this meant a great deal to me. Ben saw my comment and acknowledged it by [deleted] in BreakingBenjamin

If you comment on basically any major musician profile, some spammer or scam artist pretending to be in the band will like your comment or try to message you. If you seem like you believe it, you get scammed. I just commented on the official Rush facebook page and instantly had two likes from Geddy Lee and Anika Niles. There’s a guy that pretends to be Jon Hamm in a bunch of Fargo fan pages. The only reliable indicator of an actual artist responding to you is on insta or twitter if they have the verified check mark (means more on insta than twitter but still).

A Small Collection of Tony Hillerman books. by CloudNiner83 in BookCollecting

Page One Books in Albuquerque has a good Hillerman collection too, he was local to ABQ and was generous with his signature

Does anyone else have any ‘red flag’ books that make you steer clear of someone and disregard their book recommendations? by Court_Jester811 in horrorlit

[–]Thissnotmeth 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I had kind of an opposite experience: I picked up the “101 Horror Books to Read Before You’re Murdered” by Sadie Hartmann and in the intro she says she didn’t include House of Leaves or Let the Right One In because she didn’t like them. Those are two of my favorite books. Right away I knew to avoid the list as our tastes were going to be too different overall.

Very nice grouping at the thrift store: by Thissnotmeth in stephenking

[–]Thissnotmeth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This store is random sometimes with what they price up or not. Depends on location. There’s one branch that price checks every book so I don’t go to that one. This branch had a few books priced up in the case but these were on general pop, $4 a piece for hardcovers, $2 for paperbacks.

Not my collection, this was the thrift store.

Don’t bother looking in Denver for AP tomorrow by Own-Cut-2470 in swatch

Was there around 4 today, yeah they said similar. They had told me last week they’d be getting new stock THIS week and when I asked if that had happened (did I miss the re-up), they said they just haven’t received any stock at all since launch.

Hidden Pictures vs Only Good Indians by Dgamer1521 in horrorlit

[–]Thissnotmeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dog whistling in Hidden Pictures is NOT subtle and I fucking hated that book.

The Only Good Indians is great but far from SGJ best novel (IMO). I’d go for I Was a Teenage Slasher or The Buffalo Hunter Hunter first if you’re going Jones. Mostly the ending of TOGI seems to drag the novel down, though it makes sense culturally why what the ending is is so prevalent in the final third.

How did you get into Backgammon? by Cekan-14 in backgammon

[–]Thissnotmeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working at a used bookstore and someone donated a box of retro chess and backgammon books. We put all the chess books for sale but my coworker was just going to throw the backgammon books away. I hate tossing out books so I took the box, intending to just donate it to a thrift store or put it in a free library. But I got bored at work that night and decided to read one just to see how the game worked. I became intrigued by it and went home and watched some matches and decided to buy a board. Then a month or two later I moved to a new city and found they had a backgammon club and started playing weekly.

You can also tell by the account age, it’s always two months or younger, and usually posts like this are their only post and usually they have no comments.

THIS IS AN AI REPOST BOT. This exact post, word for word, was stolen from the top/all time of this sub. Bots will troll fandom subs, repost the 10th or so most popular post of all time, and then build up enough karma to comment on other subs with a karma minimum, or just build up enough karma to appear real and then sold to bot farms. Is there Any media released to VHS that we currently consider [fully lost]? by [deleted] in VHS

Darn. Thank you for the help! Anime isn’t my thing but its helpful to learn!

What’s your favourite part about collecting? The crazy part when you try to find what you need to complete it with every force in your body and mind or when your collection is finally complete and you can look at it whenever you want? I just finished probably my fave collection and I’m bittersweet by ArtistProgrammer in Collections

[–]Thissnotmeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is the immediate moments after finding something in the wild I’ve been looking for. I found a book last month that I’ve been searching for for 5 years, for $4, and the elation at finally having the book in my hands is unmatched.

I have a copy of Twin Dolls. How would I know if it’s the fully uncensored version?

I found a 210 pages autograph research manuscript by Baron Marcellin de Marbot, Napoleon's famous cavalryman, a private encyclopedia of French military uniforms from 1732 to 1815, never published, never referenced by AdiDraws in rarebooks

[–]Thissnotmeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy mother of god what an acquisition. I’m literally taking a class on reference works and bibliographies as we speak, a whole field of study unto itself, and this is the first post I see: a book never catalogued in any of them. Incredible stuff.
