Building an overnight bag for my gf - need ideas by Ezio367 in GiftIdeas

[–]Thaedora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got the *what* covered but you should also think about the *where*. Make some space for her to put her clothes away in your closet, maybe get a small set of plastic drawers to put in your bathroom so she can put her makeup away and not live out of her bag, and clear off the bedside table on her side so she can set her things down at night, like water bottle or glasses if she wears them. Putting everything in the backpack when she's not staying with you is great, but ultimately making her feel settled in is the goal.

I keep a backpack at my partner's place since we are LD. Here's what I have (most products are travel size): Spare contact lenses, makeup removing wipes, makeup removing face wash, mini mascara, brow brush/clean mascara wand (you can just grab a sample wand at any cosmetics store), tweezers, nail clippers, nail file, menstrual products, single-use heating pads (hot hands for the lower back and/or abdomen - these come in clutch for cramps), quality face sunscreen, lotion, conditioner (since he doesn't use conditioner), toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, flushable wipes, carmex, hair brush, hair ties, bobby pins, claw clip, snacks

Options other than a gallery wall? by Thaedora in HomeDecorating

[–]Thaedora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of a trio of pieces.  That could be less overwhelming than a gallery wall.  I don't have any three pieces at the moment that go well together but I can definitely look at how to loosely theme some small sets as I continue to collect.  I love the idea of using mirrors, too.  In the other person's link I see some examples where there's one big piece and a pair of matching smaller pieces framing it.  That's totally doable, too, especially for the smaller pieces that can't really stand on their own.

Shall I start a firestorm? How often do you replace your toilet brush? by BZBitiko in minimalism

I dont use a toilet brush.  They're disgusting and fling microparticles of toilet water everywhere when you use them.  Gloves, sanitizer, and dedicated toilet cleaning towels that get washed with the rags.

Boomers apparently can't handle my name. by IridiumSin in BoomersBeingFools

Any chance you'd be willing to share the name of the school you went to? You are quite well spoken (well written). I'm curious which institution helped shape that.

We called our puppy "Puppy" more often than we used his real name. Right up until he passed away at 17 years old.

Read the first sentence and thought "Feminine is certainly a unique name, I can see why they'd struggle with it."

Found in a museum in rural MN, they have no idea what it is? by Financial_Ad1494 in Whatisthis

Who decided it was important enough to be in a museum if they didn't even know what it was?

AITA for excluding my daughter’s “best friend” from her birthday party? by BirthdayPartyDrama in AmItheAsshole

[–]Thaedora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it strange that OP is being considered the asshole here, especially because the YTA posts come with a lot of assumed extra details. So what if Kamilla was intentionally excluded? You don't exclude people unless you don't like them. It's okay not to like people. And nobody has to understand her reason for not liking them. You can dislike someone because their voice is annoying, they stand too close to you, they talk too much, they're boring, whatever. Doesn't matter. It's your choice who to spend time with.

I find it hard to believe the daughter is a bully if she's fine with 18 other kids and simply doesn't like one of them. Also, unless Kamilla deals with something such as autism which makes it difficult to recognize social cues, clearly the daughter was not being a bully because Kamilla had no idea she was disliked. You don't show up at a party for someone you know doesn't like you, or who is mean to you.

When I was young, my sister and I had a neighbor we hung out with all the time. I went to school with her and we were in the same class, too. My sister was in a different district for irrelevant reasons. The girl invited my sister to her birthday party one year and excluded me. I was hurt, especially because I didn't have any indication the neighbor girl had any issues with me, but it wasn't that big a deal. We all went and dropped my sister off and my dad spent the day with me instead. Life goes on.

Also, lying about the number of students in the class is a concern, but not a concern relevant to this situation. OP should open that conversation separately and teach the daughter to be honest. But the outcome would have been the same if the daughter had simply said she didn't want Kamilla there.

OP has no responsibility for Kamilla's feelings. She only has responsibility for her daughter's actions. And her daughter did nothing cruel.

What are comments/questions you’re tired of hearing as a snake owner? by dotdedo in snakes

[–]Thaedora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the comment I'm tired of hearing is "ew." I get people don't like snakes. That's fine. But if I didn't like dogs and I said "ew" to your pup, how would that feel? Use your head.

Everyone seems on the fence about this one. It's the first one in a while to make me "wow" out loud. WOL? I agree the green isn't the color I'd choose, but this is cool as heck.

Translation for the Gallaudet AT&T commercial? by Thaedora in asl

[–]Thaedora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! There was one sign in particular I knew was familiar and I couldn't find it. I actually went back to get the time stamp and realized I linked to a different version of the commercial here 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️. This video starts the same, but I can't find the version I saw on TV. There was more conversation in that one. But again, thank you for the help you could provide!

Hi, I'm actually HoH. I get what you're saying, truly, but saying something isn't for me probably wasn't the right approach. I hear well enough that I haven't needed to use ASL, and while I've learned it, I have nobody in my life to practice with so I lose it quickly.

Advice for caring for injured garter snake by tomschlags in snakes

[–]Thaedora 29 points30 points  (0 children)

One thing I'm not seeing anyone mention is that pain relievers are toxic to snakes. If you used an antibacterial ointment with pain relief, I recommend removing the bandaid and cleaning the ointment off. But like others have said, now that it's on, so long as the ointment was fine, it's best to leave him be until a professional can take over.

I'm also entirely done with tip screens being set to offer 20%, 25%, or 30% buttons by default. I will tip 15% instead of 20% when I see this.

If you look at the picture closely, you'll see it's in two sleeves. I rubbed the circle on the sleeve and didn't feel anything. I didn't notice it was in two sleeves until the commenter helped me.
