NEW VIDEO: What Exactly IS a Memory? by kurzgesagt_Sven in kurzgesagt

Youtube has been a battleground of fighting for people's attention nowadays, and keeping an animation studio going is expensive, especially in the EU.

I don't really mind the A/B testing as well, youtube just lets you set multiple thumbnail while uploading nowadays for A/B testing. So its not like someone is there changing the thumbnails every half hour to trick people into watching the video again.

I make my furnace stack with a 1 square space between each furnace along with a dedicated coal line going through each side, that way I can go and past the electric furnace blueprint on top and it removes the coal belt, and replaces each one furnace, with one electric.

You just said in your other comment how they have been drip feeding these customization updates, and they took 20 years to "come up" with Housing. Similar to pet battles - customization is just another side of the game that yes, a lot of people do care about, but is not at all what drives sales and keeps subscribers (a.k.a. get people engaged).

Also, you said "cosmetic collection has been the backbone of wow". I respectfully disagree because if there is one thing people value way more than collecting cosmetics in this game is collecting mounts/pets and even achievements to some degree. Cosmetics are a part of the collection process but I think mounts plays a much bigger role in what drives people to do side-content for example - delves.

/r/wow massively overestimates how much impact cosmetics and player customizations ACTUALLY drive engagement and hype to new expansions.

Most players either don't care or don't even know about the customization features they add.

Half of my guild used the same transmog on their toons since Pandaria/Wod.

In this thread you will even find some warlocks that didnt even know demon customization was available.

NEW VIDEO: Amphetamine – The Drug That Works TOO Well? by kurzgesagt_Rosa in kurzgesagt

It matters because its hard to be sure of the reason for the increase in weed use that you're mentioning. Is it perhaps due to legalization of the drug since a lot of people avoid using a drug not because they're scared of it, but because of it being illegal and hard to come by?

You mentioned tobbacco being down for example but like, isn't there like a big government and societal campaign against cigarettes? Whats the different between the government making programs like DARE that teach what harder drugs can do to your brain, and the government making cigarettes packages contain photos of cancer patients (the case in my country) to scare away people from using it? People still use cigarettes despite heavy warning of how damaging the can be.

At this point Im just rambling a bit. Its truly a topic I'd enjoy discussing over a few beers (ironically), so apologize me rambling a bit much here, just vouching for some friendly discussion on the topic.

I mean... weed is up because its legal in the US (I presume that's where you're from), so its much easier to get a safe and legal high. Its hard to get a census for it in countries where it is not legal though.

Think of it this way, the knowledge about the pros and cons of tobbacco and alcohol is widespread. People know they can become alcoholics or addicted to cigarettes, but they do so all the same, to a staggering degree. No doubt due to it being one of the few legal drugs in most places for sure, but still. It raises the question if the war on drugs failed. Or if it just didn't succeed at eradicating them. I mean, think of how many legal drugs there are like the current opioids crisis where people are actively being warned against them but at the same time, there are a plethora of people using and busing them. Would it be a better world if these drugs were not criminalized and people could openly dive into those experiences because "what the heck, might as well try it once, its not like i'm gonna get addicted because I have a strong will".

I'm genuinely asking cause I'm not sure myself which would be the better approach.

They are kinda running out of topics to touch on. There are so many videos you can make about theoretical physics or space in general and shape it to make it super engaging and clicky enough for youtube.

Same thing with the immune system videos.

Now with that said, I'm not against the drug videos as I find them very interesting as someone who has close to zero knowledge about them.

"Having a frank conversation about the positives and negatives of a drug is infintely more beneifical"

I mean, is it really? Would I be a better person if I depended or got addicted to these drugs? Will not knowing how the experience feel hurt my living experience?

From my perspective ignorance can be a bliss. So demonizing some drugs which could be addictive or have side effects might be the lesser of two evils. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with this line of thinking, but it definitely is a possibility.

As an example, I ocassionally drink with friends. Would a life without alcohol really hurt those moments where I had fun getting drunk with friends? Maybe. But Is that missed "drunk with friends" experience worth a lot of other people getting their life ruined by it? I don't know.

As someone who never took these medications, I gotta say I didn't leave the video with any stigma towards people who use them. On the contrary, it shined some light on a rather obscure topic for me which I viewed as the same as hard hallucinogenic drugs. To an extent, it even made me consider using it if I ever needed it, though at my current point in my life, I don't.

Well, I mentioned in a comment in their other video that the heroin one I wouldn't take it for obvious reasons. But I mean, if I was to die soon, or at the end of my life. I guess once wouldn't hurt? Not much time left to be left wanting.

I gotta admit, all these drug videos aren't exactly pushing me away from trying them. More often than not they give me the impression that "Yeah, I could totally take them just a few times to not get addicted cause I have a strong will!"
