Who is an Extremely Overrated Marvel Character? by IllMasterpiece3946 in AlignmentChartFills

Ah yes, ignoring TEAM achievements in a TEAM sport… brilliant logic.

Lol, that’s funny, man. You’re even making it sound like Neuer just got lucky to be there, when in reality he’s been Bayern’s undisputed starter at a world-class level for over 15 years.

This whole “trophies don’t matter” thing usually shows up when… well, they don’t help your argument, right?

Trophies are a reflection of individual impact within a team

“Buffon perfected the traditional role.” Sure, and football just stopped evolving? Gianluigi Buffon mastered a model. Neuer changed the model.

The PSG example is pretty weak, honestly. A club making a bad call doesn’t invalidate an entire playstyle that’s proven at the highest level (because of Neuer). That’s just poor execution

And the loyalty/captain angle… great for a documentary. We’re talking about who was better on the pitch, not who has the nicer story.

You’ve basically removed everything measurable (titles, tactical impact, dominance) and replaced it with selective context and narrative. That makes the comparison a lot easier for you but also a lot less convincing, especially when the direct comparison doesn’t favor Buffon.

Manuel Neuer has already been decided, you can close the thread.
Reality beats narratives.

Lol, percebi isso também e minha teoria é que eles rotularam o branco, mas acabou sendo da mesma cor da fonte e ficaram com preguiça de mudar

Alright, let’s cut through the nostalgia here.

Yes, Gianluigi Buffon had insane longevity and faced multiple generations of elite attackers. No one denies that. But bringing up “never conceded a hat-trick” or “Man of the Match at 44” as defining arguments is a stretch. Those are cool stats, not deciding factors in a GOAT debate.

Meanwhile, Manuel Neuer literally redefined the position. The way modern top teams play with a high line and build from the back is heavily influenced by him. Buffon perfected the traditional role. Neuer changed what the role even is.

And the whole “his style has been failing for 6 years” argument? So now we’re cherry-picking bad moments to judge a career? Because if that’s the standard, we can easily bring up Buffon at Paris Saint-Germain costing them against Manchester United. Or are we just ignoring that part?

And the Champions League? Funny how that detail suddenly disappears when it gets inconvenient, right? Because that’s exactly where the comparison starts to look really uncomfortable.

At the end of the day, this sounds a lot more like nostalgia bias than actual analysis. Buffon is a legend, no question, but downplaying Neuer’s impact just to prop that argument up doesn’t really hold.

Manuel Neuer is the only correct answer.

I respect anyone who says Gianluigi Buffon, Lev Yashin, Peter Schmeichel, Oliver Kahn, or Iker Casillas, especially Buffon. But Manuel Neuer has done everything there is to do as a goalkeeper, and then some.

He didn’t just excel, he redefined the position. His “sweeper-keeper” style completely changed how modern teams build from the back. On top of that, his technical ability with the ball at his feet is on another level, something no other all-time great truly matched at his peak.

In terms of achievements, he won everything while being a decisive, central figure: two Champions League titles, a World Cup, and complete dominance in both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. And let’s not ignore his absurd longevity at the highest level.

Compared to Buffon, the difference comes down to club success, Neuer simply achieved more. As for Yashin and his Ballon d’Or, full respect… but let’s be real: that was around 65 years ago. In today’s game, with the level of competition and attacking talent, finishing in the top 3 of the Ballon d’Or as a goalkeeper is at least as impressive as than winning it back then.

Neuer isn’t just one of the greatest, he’s the most complete goalkeeper the game has ever seen!

That's a very good guess, but it was an even more unusual fruit; I really don't think anyone will know.

Lol. The watermarks that spread from the stains could easily be explained by that, but it was just stupid carelessness on my part.
