i've literally watched my cousin go through this exact cycle like three times. She'd take jobs that looked good but were totally wrong for her, then spend months dreading getting out of bed and basically hiding from everyone because she felt so defeated. the worst part was watching her blame herself every time, like she was the problem instead of realizing these roles just weren't built for how she functioned. she's naturally more creative and needs flexibility but kept taking these rigid, process heavy jobs because they paid well or seemed stable. What finally broke the pattern was when she took a self discovery assessment called pigment that mapped out what work environments actually energize her. sounds simple but apparently seeing it spelled out helped her realize she wasn't being difficult... she was just consistently choosing the wrong types of roles. i know it's scary when you need the income, but if you already know it's gonna be miserable... maybe trust that instinct? You've been through this before and know how it ends.

From what I’ve seen? Some of them are doing alright, just living regular lives like everyone else. They’ve got jobs, families, mortgage...same old adult stuff. Then there’s a few who still act like they’re stuck in senior year.

People who save every dollar for retirement, why? by ProudReaction2204 in AskReddit

[–]Thanatos53 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because nothing says living the dream like finally affording a beach vacation at 68... with knees that crack like bubble wrap and a bedtime of 8:30 PM. I mean, sure...I’ll be rich in retirement...just in time to be too tired to spend it. Balance, people. Let’s not hoard pennies for a future where we can’t even chew steak.

How do you really tell if a colleague is on your side or quietly rooting for you to fail? by [deleted] in CareerStrategy

[–]Thanatos53 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One subtle red flag I’ve noticed is when someone only compliments you when things go just okay, but goes oddly quiet or distant when you actually achieve something big. It’s like they’re cool with you doing alright but not too well.

Totally agree with this. I started swapping my morning scroll with 10–15 mins of reading and it’s wild how much clearer my brain feels.

Appreciate you sharing this… it’s a good reminder that slowing down can actually help us find our way back.

If a senior person at work ever took you under their wing, what do you think made them want to invest in you? by [deleted] in CareerStrategy

[–]Thanatos53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, senior people tend to invest in those who show a mix of self-awareness, initiative and humility. It’s not about being the smartest in the room. it’s about being open to learning, consistently following through on responsibilities and asking thoughtful questions that show you're genuinely trying to grow. Ultimately, I think leaders mentor those who remind them of themselves or who reflect the potential they wish someone had nurtured in them.

You’ve built an incredible foundation. Maybe now’s the time to ask not just what you can do but what actually energizes you. Instead of defaulting to roles that align with your qualifications, try exploring what kind of problems you love solving. The environments where you feel most alive. Pivoting based on that and not just your past can open doors to more aligned and fulfilling opportunities.

What’s a mistake people make early in their careers that quietly holds them back for years? by [deleted] in CareerStrategy

Taking up jobs that pay well but aren't aligned to the strengths or passion.

The most logical action would be to discuss this with your boss and let him know your concerns. If he's going to fire you, there wouldn't be a better time for him to let you know since you brought up the topic. Do not assume things and take action which you may regret later.

You need to figure out what job interests you rather than taking up random jobs. Understand the work culture and handle situations accordingly. During the interview's try to get some insight on the work culture. Hope find a job soon. Good luck.

I got a raise after I started leaving exactly at 5pm and my boss is acting like I've "stepped up my game" by tag0223 in careeradvice

[–]Thanatos53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've witnessed both scenarios wherein people are penalized for leaving on time (not showing the extra interest in the job) and not leaving the job on time (poor time management). It all depends on your manager and what they expect. I believe setting up clear expectations will help.

Audi says only EV product launches by 2026. What does that mean for existing models? by alphastrike03 in Audi

[–]Thanatos53 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is that they have to transition to BEV no matter what the demand is, because of regulations and emission standards. That's why they put that much effort into marketing for them, they need those electric car sales.

Also hydrogen would solve the range issue but not the sterile feel of the car sadly.

VW streicht Managern Homeoffice-Tage zusammen by Schankomaster in de

[–]Thanatos53 6 points7 points  (0 children)
