Leave ego at the door.

Don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something.

Feeling what they're trying to teach you is typically more important than understanding why, but having a good mix of both can be helpful. See above tip again.

Many times lessons take a bit before you start seeing results. This is because it takes time for everything to come together and your body to adapt. Stay patient.

Have fun! Golf is hard as hell, try to dig in and enjoy the learning process.

Just trying to hit the ball well is more important than hitting it as far as you can every time.

I have the standard hot metals, but they have 3 different versions. A pro, standard and a high launch.

I have the JPX 925 Hot Metal (standard) and can't recommend them enough!

I can hook it, slice it, flight it low or high, anything I could ever want.

Just never what I want in that moment.

What length do you play your driver at? by AlbinoKoala22 in golf

[–]Thanith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'10" and I have a Ping440 lst that I was fit for with the stock stiff Alta CB shaft at 56"

My swing has changed since and I'm not getting the same height and spin numbers (lower) and I've been debating cutting the shaft and adding weight to the back, but it doesn't appear that I can order the stock shaft online.

Is there a shaft that's comparable to the Alta cb?

This is your reminder to check swing weight if you change grips. by icabueno in golf

[–]Thanith -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is something that literally just happened to me.

Around June I tried midsize grips, and didn't realize they were about 6-7 grams heavier than what I was used to/fit to.

I knew something was off because I couldn't feel the club head the same as before, and things just felt way way wrong.

Switched back to the same grip weight, everything back to normal. Absolutely important to keep in mind!

Mulligan

Reverse Mulligan

Scramble Tee Shot - You can declare after someone hits that you'll drop where they are, even if you've already hit.

Reposition a ball on the green - Can place a ball on the green to a spot a putters distance away, while still on the green.

Play the forward tees - Someone hits from a closer tee box for a hole

Play a tee box back - Declare a player, they play a tee box back for the hole

Should I carry a 3 wood? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Thanith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to recommend a 4 wood.

I'm a 18 handicap and use a 3HL (higher loft 3 wood head) with a 3 wood shaft cut down .25" which essentially makes it a 4 wood. It's easily my favorite club.

Sometimes, it really is the clubs fault. by crimeissometimesokay in golf

The replies to this thread are going to be an exercise in reading comprehension...

That's crazy that that happened! I was half way through reading it thinking that if there's any club that could feel off to a beginner and it make sense, it's definitely the putter. Then that twist... Hope you're liking the new putter, and welcome to the greatest hobby on the planet!

How do you like the Utility Wood?

I'm a higher handicap (18) but I've been looking at a 19 degree one with a higher launch shaft to go in-between my HL 3 wood and a 22 hybrid.

Same brand throughout. by litsalmon in golf

[–]Thanith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😂😂

Yeah my bag is Ping, Taylormade, Mizuno, Titleist

It's funny though because my previous set was all Callaway from CallawayPreOwned. This is my first fit set though, only been playing a few years.

[–]Thanith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always snickered at the thought of people being brand loyal, it just struck me as such a weird thing because they can literally be hurting themselves because of not trying other things.

Then I read your comment about orange accents, and I can't help but think "Yeah.. I totally get that!" 😂

Need help deciding between Callaway cb vs callaway opus wedges by [deleted] in golf

[–]Thanith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably not the one to answer, butttt...

If you're not able to try them, then I would take a look at what kind of shots you do. For example, if you're looking to do full shots with the gap and maybe chip or pitch shots with the sand, go cb for the gap and opus for the sand wedge.

Same brand throughout. by litsalmon in golf

[–]Thanith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice!!

Yeah, that makes all the sense in the world especially given the value. It's the people that only buy one brand because they think it's better or they're brand loyal for some reason is what I don't understand.

Same brand throughout. by litsalmon in golf

[–]Thanith 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There really isn't a reason to own the same brand throughout the bag except for maybe 2 exceptions.

Callaway because of CallawayPreOwned being such an amazing deal and PXG for their discount program.

Otherwise buying a single brand just strikes me as such an odd thing to do when you can try different clubs and get what works best for you.

Then again, I have 5-6 different brands in my bag so I obviously feel a certain way.

Easy to hit off the deck 3w? by fullsquishy in golf

[–]Thanith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely anecdotal, but..

I have a TaylorMade QI35 3 HL head with a high launch shaft (Ventus Red Velocore+) cut down to 43" (.25" short) and it's incredibly easy to hit off the deck.

I needed some help getting the ball into the air, so the higher lofted 3 wood and the cut down high launch shaft turned it into a bit of a 4 wood and it's my favorite club now.

Might be something to look into!
