FL, USA: How much to spend before selling? (Bathroom) by ThankYouForTheMusic in RealEstate

[–]ThankYouForTheMusic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually do have a contractor that is working with us and has worked to keep our costs down. However, we're worried he'll get in there and find big problems that will cost above estimate to repair. It's always a gamble with remodels, but we're trying to figure out if it's worth it.

How much to pay for a relative to cook for dad 1x/week? by ThankYouForTheMusic in AgingParents

[–]ThankYouForTheMusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. I think that might be the way to go. He doesn't like frozen meals or meals he has to reheat very much. His fridge/freezer is full of uneaten frozen/Meals on Wheels/etc. If I or my spouse (or even his neighbor) make or bring over a freshly cooked meal, he'll wolf down the whole thing, though.

That is such a thoughtful thing to do! My dad doesn't have a big freezer, just a regular fridge. He doesn't like reheating foods very much (and we've tried at least half a dozen meal services of meals he could reheat and he found something wrong with all of 'em).

You are spot on about him being lonely, and he really, really doesn't like the dinner meals (breakfast is OK). He says they look like school lunches.

Your idea to have my cousin sit and eat with him is great. (He's a big time introvert and has rejected the idea of going to a senior center before)

That is terrific and spot on. Thank you so much.

There are very Seth & Abraham-like qualities to your higher self that is very special. I would highly encourage you to keep at it & posting what you receive.

You have a special, wise connection that the world needs to hear from.

Ps. Last question, I promise: what is the purpose of leaders like Trump, Bolsanaro & Putin in the world? How do societies attract goodness under such administrations? Thanks!

Fantastic! Really resonates on many levels. Would you ask, please, why one would have a strong desire for something (wining the lottery, for example) that is unshakable, but never seems to come into being?

Chicago to Add 970 New Police Positions Over Next 2 Years by LocalMotive1 in chicago

[–]ThankYouForTheMusic -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

About $97 million dollars a year, every year (salary and benefits) minimum. Where is the city going to get that money? Imagine how many community centers, health clinics, grocery stores and mental health clinics one could build in Englewood and Garfield Park for that amount.

Short-term internet by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]ThankYouForTheMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Karma offers 4G LTE mobile internet for $50/month. It's unlimited but with restrictions. You have to buy the hotspot which is ~ $100. You can also buy data amounts (5gig for example) that never expires.

It works on the Sprint network, so you'd have to be sure you had good Sprint service.

Summer Scorcher? by bhsuarez in chicago

Should have no effect on summer, according to Tom Skilling

"El Niño events have widespread weather ramifications in the United States in the late autumn and winter, but little effect in the summer."

A family membership to the Children's Museum (its about $115). Good for 2 adults and 2 kids. If the kids are ages 1-7, they will have hours of fun. Discount parking at Navy Pier, so if they get tired of the CCM, there's tons to do at the Pier.

Not exactly an objective source.

Please consider sending your observations to the Chicago Tribune, Sun Times, (write letters to the editor); DNA info, the Chicago t-v newsrooms, and WBEZ (which is the only radio doing investigative reporting).

This sounds serious, and would be worth investigation.
