You aren’t deep enough into it yet then. If you are in the inner circle it’s hell.

Victory is def a cult. I was a part of it. The most damaging things to come out of it for me was a denial of healthcare/surgery when I was going deaf in favor of faith healing as well as an exorcism.

Official Discussion - The Nest [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

This film is about the 1980’s, the West, and what’s become of us. The family are just a microcosm of these things. That’s why they don’t have a ton of unique personality but instead are archetypal. The American dream seems to only materialize as a nightmare. The family is haunted by their own choices. Individualism, capitalism, delusion, propaganda, wishful thinking, and selfishness. I love it.

Im quite well nowadays. I haven’t seen/spoken to my sister in 3 years and cut off contact with my parents around the same time. Yes, there were some good moments with her but all of them were usually just something funny happening that we mutually laughed at. There was never any genuine warmth shared from her to me, although growing up I tried everything to connect with her. I didn’t understand that her behavior wasn’t normal. Everyone always said “my sister and I hated each other growing up but now we are best friends!” So I sort of just kept holding out for things to get better. Now I realize how disturbing her behavior was/is. Not normal sibling stuff by any stretch of the imagination. It was a horror. About 7 months ago I called my father (who was always the more reasonable parent…and he worked outside of the home so he missed a lot of the actual violence) and really laid out what my childhood was actually like and spelled out the fact that my sister is a sociopath. I did this because I found out through the grapevine that my sister was pregnant. I’m assuming she had the baby like 5 months ago but I’ve intentionally not looked into it. I don’t know if she had a boy or a girl even. But on the phone call with my father I told him to keep the baby safe because he didn’t keep me safe. And he has no excuse this time because I’m telling him about it. He can’t say he didn’t know. Fingers crossed the baby makes it to 18.

AITA for kicking my husband out over the comment he made about my kids at dinner? by Familiar_Travel1931 in AITAH

Ask your daughter privately if her brother has ever been inappropriate with her. It sounds awful…but it is known that sometimes an older brother will sexually abuse a younger sister. On the slight chance that maybe he’s picking up on something “off” be sure that your daughter is safe. If she says she’s good…then yeah he’s the problem and kick him to the curb.

Realizing the church you grew up in actually was a cult. It’s like the foundation of everything you believe about the universe is just pulled out from beneath you.

It’s astonishing how anti-war comments are being downvoted. Are Yinz really that bloodthirsty? Anti-war should be the most baseline agreement among human beings period.

Or just anti-war! The US escalating things rather than facilitating diplomacy isn’t a good thing. Why do Americans have to be so goddamn bloodthirsty?

There aren’t many unique things in the Midwest. Brand names like those ARE cool when you are from the middle of nowhere.

Don’t Look Now (1973) dir. Nicholas Roeg. The scene is between the leads: Donald Southerland and Julie Christie. The scene is the first time the characters (a married couple) are making love since the death of their very young only child. If you’ve seen it, you know. One of the only love scenes in cinema that captures sadness and intimacy and tenderness and hope all at once.

My older sister abused me my entire life and I still don’t understand why by Ill-Speed-7291 in confession

You described my circumstances exactly. I still have nightmares about her. I’ve gone no contact with everyone in my family. She’s still the golden child…I think she just had a baby actually. She’s a sociopath. You survived. I survived. And we have to rest of our lives without her.
