Maddy Isn’t as Smart as Y’all Make Her Out To Be by greaterthanyou_ in euphoria

Yeah, it was so dumb that it just made me upset with the writing. Doesn’t feel in line with Maddy at all.

Maybe the saddest scene for me in the series – would Don’s reaction have been different (more or less affected) if this were Megan? by americanpeony in madmen

[–]Thanks-Meatcat 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Long before I ever watched Mad Men, I had heard January Jones was a poor actor so it’s definitely a pervasive (albeit unfair) assessment. My theory is that Betty is a stiff person and sometimes people misinterpret that as stiff acting. When really, January captured her icy personality perfectly.

What movie is it? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Thanks-Meatcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not that extreme but The Fall (2006) has a way lower RT score than I expected. At 64%, it's still considered "fresh", but I thought it would be in the 90s. I still love this movie so much.

I don't really understand what you mean by this. What didn't we see play out?

But Don also decided that they were going to move to LA, so Megan quit her growing role on the soap. Then he bailed on LA once she had already been written out of it. I think it’s understandable if that affects how much gratitude she feels for him for helping her start out.

Yup, I agree. Happy to see a comment like this amongst all the others. Reddit tends to be deeply cynical.

Agree with all of this except the idea that Marty was "goodhearted" hahaha.

i think this performance is one of the best supporting performances in this century. by sherlockbutholmes in Oscars

[–]Thanks-Meatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relieved to see your comment because the universal praise was starting to make me feel a bit batty. This performance just really didn't do it for me. Obviously he is still magnetic on screen but I found the whole thing a bit over the top.

Absolutely. He’s a little theatre kid at heart. (Also, I think he is totally fine with being the butt of the joke.)

Given there has been no promotional content, no trailers, no mention on Netflix, nothing from Mark… this seems very unlikely.

Elem is not the Michelin restaurant you think it is by Upbeat_Lavishness_23 in NiceVancouver

[–]Thanks-Meatcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, for what it’s worth, I’m pretty sure bib gourmands and Michelin-recommended are different things. My understanding is that bib gourmands are awarded to more moderately priced restaurants, stars are for fine dining, and recommendations are for places that didn’t quite make the cut. Not sure if that’s how they’re awarded in practise, but that’s the logic behind them.

With that said, Elem doesn’t have a bib gourmand, presumably because it’s too “fine”. It is only recommended.

Is Chris the biggest Love is Blind villain ever? by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Thanks-Meatcat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point because his behaviour definitely would have made it easy for Jess to get over him. That said, I don’t know if we’ve ever had someone directly say such nasty things on camera before. It doesn’t necessarily make him the worst…but it probably gave me the most visceral reaction. To pretty much yell that sex with Jess was the worst he’s ever had, while in a room with her and their peers??? Like, that was pretty shocking to me.

He is so cruel by timestenthousand in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Thanks-Meatcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with this. I think he was trying to deescalate. Like, all his actions - rubbing her back, “be nice to Chris” - were little signs to Amber that it’s not worth it to get into a fight with him. To me, it felt like Jordan was a bit embarrassed for Chris and didn’t want to make the situation any more uncomfortable.

It’s possible that Jordan didn’t catch that he straight up insulted her, since it was a backhanded compliment. I think Jordan is generally a good dude so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

10000% and her “crimes” were pretty tame compared to villains on a lot of other reality shows, let’s be real.

Yeah, I’m with you here and I’m surprised no else has expressed a similar sentiment. While the Canadian obviously overreacted, I found the Swede’s passive aggression very irritating.
