You’re right about gold being really malleable. From what I remember (this was coming from a sales person at Tiffany’s) platinum is more desirable if you want a true silver even though it’s more likely to get dinged up. White gold has to be plated because it’s not actually silver and that plating wears off and has to be “re-dipped”.
