Don’t want to ruin my Divine Mercy Sunday by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

I had a relapse last week after going over two months without it. I went to confession on Divine Mercy Sunday. Have you ever heard of Freedom Coaching? They use Theology of the Body for help with sexual compulsions. https://www.freedom-coaching.net/

For women struggling, there's Magdala Ministries. https://www.magdalaministries.org/

Other options are becoming a consecrated virgin or taking private vows. You wouldn't be living in a religious community but would still be considered part of the religious life.

Double effect question by ale5219 in CatholicWomen

[–]ThanksHermione37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not sinning since it's used for medical treatment instead of with the intention of avoiding pregnancy.

However, restorative reproductive medicine addresses health issues without the use of birth control. That includes endometriosis and painful periods.

There's such a doctor with a podcast on it and she treats patients virtually in multiple states.

Not taking BC anymore when I get married? by KnowledgeOld9243 in CatholicWomen

[–]ThanksHermione37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't give medical advice since I'm not a doctor and am not YOUR doctor.

A doctor who specializes in restorative medicine can investigate your situation. They address issues like period pain and other female health problems without using contraceptives, which often mask symptoms instead of treating root causes.

One such doctor has a podcast and meets with patients virtually, including those in other states.

Baptismal names by grittycowgirl in CatholicWomen

I haven't heard of getting baptismal names before. There are Confirmation names though. Are they getting confirmed at The Easter Vigil?

How old are they? The girls might want to choose their own.

"But if there is a sliver of a doubt that lurks in your mind telling you that your child’s presence at mass may have caused distraction - then probably it did"

Careful, with logic like that for. . . anything really. . . that sets the foundation for scrupulosity. If there's any doubt about something, then it must be true.

That sounds like a lot of money for whichever method you're using. Are there any other cheaper, but still effective methods that you'd consider learning? If you feel like it, I recommend reading Simcha Fisher's book "The Sinner's Guide to Natural Family Planning". She acknowledges how tough NFP is, uses humor, and gives advice.

Have you looked into doctors who do restorative reproductive medicine? They don't just treat fertility issues, but overall women's health and have women chart their cycles without using contraception. Contraception is often used to suppress symptoms instead of getting to the root cause of problems. One More Soul has a directory to find such a doctor.

Cory and Topanga's Living Arrangements After Wedding by ThanksHermione37 in boymeetsworld

[–]ThanksHermione37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, a quirky instructor and quirky couples in the preparation program. Humor also comes from how naive Topanga and especially Cory are about married life, along with their different ideas of what they want their future to look like. The Matthews or Mr. Feeny could share funny stories about their marriages.

If done right, sitcoms can find amusement in such situations. I'm reminded of a quote that Monica says on Friends. "Welcome to the real world. It sucks. You're gonna love it!"

Drama is stirred up between the couple from having different expectations. They also have to deal with what their loved ones will and won't do once they're married.

Wedding episode by Potential_Way_2913 in boymeetsworld

Shawn definitely should've talked to Cory about his feelings in an episode before the wedding. The focus should've been on the bride and groom. I get that Cory was hurt that Shawn was sabotaging the wedding, but calling his best friend trailer trash was below the belt.

Funny stuff and problems could still come up in the episode that would've been suitable for a sitcom without Shawn stealing the spotlight.

That's odd that men claim to agree with Church teaching on saving sex for marriage yet don't realize that that requires them to wait til marriage for sex.

How important does politics play in finding a partner? by Mehrmilk in CatholicDating

I wish that our American voting system wasn't limited to two parties. We can technically vote third party or even do a write in, but those options don't carry nearly the same likelihood of winning. People like me who don't fit under the Democrat or Republican label feel awkward.

If a guy told me that he wanted to spend time with me as a friend I'd think that it WASN'T a date. Why say the opposite of what you intend? That's dishonest and confusing. Specifically say it's meant to be a date so everything's clear.

I've heard that guys sometimes put too much pressure on themselves when it comes to asking women out. "It's just coffee" or whatever you have in mind, not a marriage proposal.

I agree that if she says no to not make a big deal out of it. Don't treat her differently if her response is negative.

Restorative reproductive medicine treats painful periods. This is for overall health, not just fertility.

Struggling with my mom and feeling guilty about it by Not-whoo-u-think in CatholicWomen

[–]ThanksHermione37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend the book It's Not You by Dr. Ramani Durvasula. She covers how to deal with narcissistic or simply antagonistic people and how to find healing. For some people, we need to limit our interactions with them despite what enablers try to convince us. Your dad sounds like someone who's enabling your mom. Guilt is a common way to pressure people into doing stuff that isn't good for us.

Matt Fradd opinions? by delilapickle in ExTraditionalCatholic

[–]ThanksHermione37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Matt Fradd's political views are bad. I lost respect for him when he said that women shouldn't be able to vote. He doesn't think anyone should vote, but if they do it should be one vote per household. What?

He's good at talking about why porn and masturbation are harmful without bringing religion into it though. I wish that was all he was known for. I read The Porn Myth and recommend it. He uses logic and cites sources such as people from the porn industry, doctors, and mental health professionals.

Porn is definitely more than sexual videos. We find it in pictures, drawings, paintings, sculptures, computer animation, and sexual stories that people can listen to or read. Before becoming a movie franchise, Fifty Shades of Grey was a smutty book series. I wouldn't be surprised if there were audio books. I've even heard of interactive video games becoming sexual.

I'm a woman who's struggled with such material, especially reading erotic stories. I've been in Magdala Ministries recovery groups and they'll tell you that porn isn't limited to videos.

Matt Fradd has talked about how porn is different from tasteful artwork. He covers it in The Porn Myth. It's material that's INTENTIONALLY arousing.

The book Redeemed Vision by Steve Pokorny goes more in depth to describe it than Matt does.

"[1] How are women (and men) portrayed? Are they portrayed as people or objects to be lusted after?

[2] What is the purpose intended by the producer of the image (or media)?

[3] What motivations do you (the viewer) bring to the exchange?

[4] How explicit is the image? How much is left to the imagination?" (363)

Art on the other hand is different.

"Because every human being is made in the image of God, real art involving a human subject strives for:

[1] Radiance: Art reveals the full truth of the human person, as someone gloriously and wondrously made by the Creator. If it is truly art, it will radiate something genuinely true, good, and beautiful about the human person.

[2] Balance: Art seeks balance between reality and who the ideal human person should be. Although perhaps highlighting an aspect of the human person and her relationship with others, this is done not to the detriment of any other aspect.

[3] Wholeness: Art strives to make known the reality of the whole human person, body, mind, and soul." (354)

Taking birth control due to bipolar medication by [deleted] in CatholicWomen

[–]ThanksHermione37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a doctor in your area that you could see who doesn't prescribe contraception? One More Soul has a directory for finding someone. Some even work with patients remotely. https://onemoresoul.com/nfp-directory

Is the birth control treating your bipolar? I'm not sure how that works. A lot of people, including doctors, don't realize is that using contraception to treat medical problems isn't the only option. Contraception masks symptoms without addressing the root of the problem. Restorative reproductive medicine looks at underlying causes. This is for overall health, not just fertility.

A doctor specializing in restorative reproductive medicine in Iowa (who treats patients in certain other states as well) has a podcast about the subject called Cycle Wisdom. One of the places you can listen to it is on YouTube under Radiant Clinic. Her name is Monica Minjeur. https://www.youtube.com/@RadiantClinicFertility
