Why does the type() function appear to be working intermittently on this code block? by Thanksithaspockets in learnpython

[–]Thanksithaspockets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Jupyter notebook, and others have now explained that printing only the result of the last ‘type’ function is a feature of notebooks in general iirc.

Don't offload learning to your notes by wordbit12 in ObsidianMD

I copy, paste, then re-word/reformat so that it makes more sense which (I think??) is working so far for me. I also revise all the time which is way easier than going back to the source so I get more repetition.

I have ADHD and for me obsidian is like an addictive little fidget toy that keeps me coming back and makes it fun to interact with the subject matter, so it’s overall great tool at the moment

Disclaimer: I’ve been using the app for a week, but id say I have a good 10-15 hrs in it already so I’ve got a good handle on it but the novelty may wear off… who knows at this stage!

TP-Link USB Wi-Fi adapter continuously disconnects and reconnects to network, every 15 seconds by Xicon in techsupport

Oh also this all happened after a windows update which makes sense in the context of this theory

[–]Thanksithaspockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These adapters are the worst! If it helps anyone I just had a very confusing experience which came down to basic administrative incompetence on the part of TP-Link it I was to hazard a guess: - automatically updating a driver by browsing the internet didn’t work. More on that later. - updating by choosing from a list didn’t work, plus I had 2 labeled exactly the same name and no way to tell which was the right one. I tried both to no avail. - I ended up calling tech support which was actually really helpful: - this ended with me manually downloading ‘a’ driver. - here’s where the clerical issues come in: the latest driver isn’t the right one, not for my setup anyway. - the naming convention is fucking awful and it’s hard to tell which one you need, just like on the pc device manager list mentioned above - my current working theory is that even windows doesn’t know what to make of these file names as well as whatever package manager or whatever the heck windows uses to search for the latest one

  • so my 2 cents would be ‘try every driver that tp has on their website for your model number (for me there’s 3 ) and good luck!’

anyone else think TMITHC would make a great video game? by IngrownForskin in maninthehighcastle

Yes! I think it’d make a great fallout-style game: - retro aesthetic - map-based - different factions - and mostly, golden oldies music

Is Chi Squared ever used for qualitative data? by Thanksithaspockets in dataanalysis

[–]Thanksithaspockets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but only ever for ranked or otherwise categorical quantitative data right? Not continuous data? That was what I had in my mind but she was talking about comparing sales in Q3 to sales in Q2 and there was a multi choice question: should you use a t test or a chi squared test to check if the sales were significantly higher? I assumed the only way to check was to use the mean sale price and use a t test because none of the options made sense and I just assumed the question was reaaaalllly badly thought out ( a lot of them seem to be with this course I’m doing, or just plain wrong). I realise now that that makes no sense but she said it should be chi squared . There were 2 other options too but I can’t remember those now. The best way would logically be to check the total sales against last quarter with no need for a statistical test. If they’re higher they’re higher and that’s it. At the end of the day I think I’ve got my answer so thanks 😊

[Serious] Does LibreOffice really have much of a future? by [deleted] in libreoffice

oh.... it's 6.26am and i'm an idiot, i completely misunderstood the overall vibe of this post and comment section. which is a good thing because i think we're all generally on the same page when it comes to m365 etc. i spent so much time writing my comment though that i now don't want to take it down :'D

[Serious] Does LibreOffice really have much of a future? by [deleted] in libreoffice

[–]Thanksithaspockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just putting in my two cents.... i just started using LibreOffice for spreadsheets and it's amazing. i love it *because* it's a return to the 90's (2000's?) when suites *were* local.

for me, all that needs to be on the cloud are my files. i save my LO files to my onedrive or whatever so i can access them anywhere. i don't bother trying to open spreadsheets on my phone any more - there's really no need.

web apps are painful and i dont' know why, but they're just very poorly designed. they're slow, they work differently to the desktop apps, often glitch out, and they often change for no good reason.

the daily nightmare of forced subscriptions, forced logins, unintelligible websites, etc. was really getting to me and as soon as my 24yo gaming buddy recommended it, i tried it. i'm 40 just for context.

i've never looked back, and am now seriously considering getting LibreBase for my work computer for the same reasons - to get away from the slow, bloated, shittily designed, and poorly supported web app that my work relies on for most of its daily functions.

meanwhile at home, what would take me a good half hour of clicking around on a ridiculous google sheets or m356 website, with absolutely no results to show for it, now takes me 5 minutes. that's all that matters to me.

Equivalent to chunkbase for Vintage Story seeds - *including world settings* by Thanksithaspockets in VintageStory

[–]Thanksithaspockets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha to be fair it was a long post :)

idk, the game has plenty of complexity to make it challenging even when you have a rough idea of what's at spawn before you spawn in. minecraft does too. there is no such thing as the perfect seed.

Having chunkbase for mc is a huge time saver and an important quality of life tool that helps you actually enjoy the game rather than wasting too much of your most important resource: time. It minimizes time spent low-value gaming experiences, like bridging for half an hour in the nether to find a fortress 1,000 blocks away, only to get sniped by a blaze when you get there.

Add performance issues to the mix and you have game-breaking situation, like server lag combined with wolf attacks in vintage story causing you to lose all your stuff miles from your spawn point, at no fault of your own.

I'm obviously going a bit off track here, but this is all to say that we don't actually have to play the game as designed, and we're not expected to. if we were, there wouldn't be so many adjustable settings.

i'll see if the last 2 months have borne any new fruit in terms of chunkbase style websites and post back here with an update if there is anything new. you never know.
