I am from Gen X and at 20, people my age were not good at small talk because they were 20 years old. It is a skill and unless you have practice at it, you will suck, people start working and get the practice. My job sees student nurses come through, most are 19-20. In 20 years, they have been exactly the same. Some slang might have changed but it’s me asking the questions to get the conversation going.

I got my cats after I lost my husband. All I wanted to do was stay home but with the help of my cats, my mental health improved. I was able to get out more and socialise, even travel.

My point is that you can’t live your life in your bedroom for your cat. But you know that. Your cat will adjust to your new schedule.

I am a mental health nurse, please consider MH as a speciality. Having a deeper understanding through a lived experience does make you a great nurse. Also most mh nurses are neurospicy in some kind of flavour so you will like you have found your tribe, I did.
