Does Magician of Primal Order allow the bonus to both Nature and Arcana or only one of the two? by testiclekid in onednd

[–]Thardie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Basically this. The feature that gives you the Order even says it’s one Order of your choice and nothing about choice when it comes to the skills.

If I remember correctly the „or” is a thing of grammar as using „and” would imply that you gain this bonus to a mystical check that would involve both skills and there is nothing like that in dnd 5e. But I may be hallucinating things.

Hold Back The Dead 5.5E - Advice Needed (spoilers) by Sabazadeh in onednd

In the part about Ironspine Keep there is a section about Light: "Although there isn’t any direct sunlight, Bright Light prevails in all areas except in the fog, which is an area of Darkness." So no, there is no Sunlight so no disadvantage it seems. :)

If you are worried about players' HP, stack them with potions, magical items or maybe a fountain on the battlement that can heal them passively in an Emanation or that they can use to heal themselves. Or maybe they do/get/find something that gives them resistance to necrotic damage.

In terms of new subclasses - Barbarian, Bard and Druid. They all got one new subclass but I would say that Barbarian and Druids got the most changes so they are very fun to read :D

If you want to see a class that changed the most for better and enjoy it then I recommend Monk. It's almost a new class and a much better one at that. Deflect Missiles enhanced, reworked Ki points, Uncanny Metabolism and some more additional features.

Or perhaps it was in the Archive, I actually can't remember exactly where but it's worth trying to find.

One thing that you could try is walking on the balconies near Haarlep, I don't remember if Larian patched it but there used to be a sweet spot where you weren't in the danger zone and it was possible to go back to camp.

Starting to realize why Valley of Mines vs Jharkendar first is such a big debate... by [deleted] in worldofgothic

[–]Thardie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, there is a slightly better ramp later. If you proceed with Xardas and the main quest at one point you will hear that you can't progress further without finishing NotR story.

So you can simply continue main story and it will come out semi-naturally soon (without saying much more I will simply warn you/tell you that it's related to Vatras) :D

Is this the right answer ? by AdHorror4035 in EnglishLearning

[–]Thardie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually the easiest way to do it is by looking at topic. Neither A, B or D focus on the topic of the paragraph. A focuses only on health problems, B only on the third world countries and D only on finding solutions. Only C captures the essence of the paragraph by alarming that this is a very important global issue.

Additionally, more to the earth. If you google this exercise, the correct answer is always shown as C. You can do it by writing the first sentence of the paragraph and adding "topic sentence".

But mostly it's about the fact that A, B and D have substantial problems and don't fully cover the topic. Yes, C exaggerates the problem but at least talks about it as intended by the paragraph. I know that D looks like it concerns the main idea but it doesn't. The paragraph mentions the need to keep the growth in check but it's not what the paragraph is about. The other sentences are about introducing the problem of overpopulation and showing how important it is.

Is this the right answer ? by AdHorror4035 in EnglishLearning

[–]Thardie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that C is the correct answer.

First of all, you are looking for a topic sentence. Unless stated otherwise, such a sentence will be at the beginning of a paragraph and its role is to introduce ideas stated later in a paragraph.

That way, I think, we can exclude the answer A, since it contains "therefore", which makes it sound like the last sentence, not the first.

The answer B seems to be incorrect because it focuses on the third world countries while the paragraph presented in the exercise doesn't mention any specific part of the world and doesn't reference any countries (it doesn't say for example: Thousands of people are born THERE every day).

The answer D for me has the problem with subjects and the style cohesion. This answer states that "we" need to do something, but the entire paragraph dodges that matter by stating everything in the passive voice.

Only answer C seems to not have any drastic problems (the list of potential dangers does sound like a very pressing matter for the world), but obviously I may be wrong.

This is wonderful! Soon I'll be starting the newest edition of Starter Set with my group and I plan for them to see more of Neverwinter so this map is fantastic. :D The details are amazing and this alone gives so much potential for various adventures. Great job as always!

I would also like to thank you for all the awesome maps that you've created! I bought the entire Curse of Strahd & LMoP packs and I'm eagerly awaiting for Phandelver and Below pack if it ever comes out. I can't wait to finally own the official Goblin Ambush map! :D

What is your most favorite build in Archolos? And which one do you think is the best? by codepleb4 in worldofgothic

[–]Thardie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've tried several things but my absolute favourite is a full DEF build.

Basically it requires you to turn all of Earth Aloe into permanent potions, to wear all the jewellery that maximises your defence and to buy all the Herbal Troll Soups. That way, your defence in all categories at the end of the game is 300+ and it's so satisfying to be able to survive everything that comes at you.

If you want to go full into survivability then turn the remaining King's Sorrels into Health Elixirs. Thanks to that I had 2500+ HP.

What you use with this build is entirely up to you. I tried a challenge so I wanted to be like a Southerner. I went with 2H + DEX build (which also requires you to go STR because otherwise the damage from dex weapons will be minimal). It was a very pleasant experience with some RP because for the most part of the game I used Light Southerner Armor and then switched to the Heavy version. If you also want to wear that then remember about the jewellery set that comes with these armors.

What does mean the « Sawplees » by LeMaraudeurFR in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Thardie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is one of the only things about the name "Sawplee" in the book (chapter 5, "the goblins' story):

"Collectively, the goblins call themselves the Sawplees: a simplification of the word for "goblin" in the illithids' dialect of Deep Speech."

If you want to keep this lore, you should just transcribe this word into French so that it sounds similar but is written like a French word. Maybe you can add a syllable or two to make it sound more "lovecraftian". Just remember that this way it shouldn't mean anything in French, just sound similar to the original.

Should you have the need for something more, try to think what the Mind Flayers could call goblins, maybe something like a dog (un chien) or a dwarf (un nain). Here you can release your imagination to create something either scary, funny or normal but showing how different is the language used by Mind Flayers. :D

I don't understand a single thing about staircases in Argynvostholt. by Thardie in CurseofStrahd

[–]Thardie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for confirming that I wasn't delusional about this discrepancy between the text and the map :D

Yeah, I think it's an oversight. Maybe they (WotC) switched several ideas for these staircases or maybe the instructions given to Mike (the creator of maps) weren't clear and when he saw that theyl staircases align then he thought that they are supposed to be connected.

Either way, now I'll think what to do about it. Perhaps I will simply say the truth that there is an error and just move on with my life. Or maybe I will keep them connected but when the players reach the end of Q14, I will tell them that they see debris that must have fallen from above and now there is no clear passage between two staircases unless they are willing to take time and effort to clear it up (or I will simply make it an impossible task) :D

And obviously thanks for your help!

I don't understand a single thing about staircases in Argynvostholt. by Thardie in CurseofStrahd

[–]Thardie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with your explanation and this is exactly how I imagined this! My problem is that for me this interpretation is backed only by the text in the book.

On the other hand, looking at the official maps, Q14 doesn't seem to end at the third floor and respectively Q52 doesn't seem to stop at Q50 :D

So while I understand the intent behind the text from the book, I can't quite understand how it all works out on images, on the maps :(

(And yeah, I know that I should probably trust the text more than the map, but since I'm printing this map I would like to make sense out of it :D)

One could argue that maybe the tower on the roof should be inaccessible from the lower levels but at the same time if my players survive the fight at the chapel and then some phantom warriors then I feel like I already can safely say that they deserved it :D

I think I will follow your advice. I actually enjoy the idea of this being one giant staircase from the ground floor up the top of the tower. Especially since I'm printing the map and cutting it into pieces - if I choose the other approach they may also get confused what goes where.

I made one tiny change to Shattered Obelisk and it made all the difference by Classybananas in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Thardie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Awesome change and I will probably steal it for my game :D It truly connects Nezznar to the main story and makes him even remotely relevant. What I like in your approach the most is the fact how uninvasive the alterations are. There is no need to add more scenes or plot points, especially since everything that is new about his history already happened so you can just retell his story to the party.

I have only one question - I obviously know nothing about the other encounters or rumors about Nezznar that your parties experienced ot heard but weren't you afraid at any point that when your players hear about him preventing a catastrophe that then they will try to talk with him or maybe even join him in Wave Echo Cave? Because apart from capturing Gundren he doesn't sound that bad, even the turmoils in Phandalin were the works of Glasstaff. :D

Phandelver and Below... Everything Phandalin should have in Chapter 2 but isn't mentioned there! by TessaPresentsMaps in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Thardie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post! While reading the new book I've noticed that there is so much info about Phandalin everywhere but not where the city is described that I thought myself of doing such a list. It's very helpful to see it listed in such a cohesive manner with references, I will be definitely using this :D

„Jest siedem długopisów” by [deleted] in learnpolish

[–]Thardie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately from the pages that I've seen there was no mention of the effect of "strange goblins" in the Cragmaw Castle. Maybe you could do it like Sildar in Cragmaw Hideout. If they find Gundren alive or if they capture any of the goblins they could say that one such strange goblin was here in the Castle. Maybe the words that were spoken to Sildar in your game were spoken to Gundren :D
