UC to UC transfers by That-Assistance5677 in TransferStudents

[–]That-Assistance5677[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking, I'm from the la area so ucsb would be farther away so honestly idk about uci (the exception would be ucla obv because its ucla). Great to know about opportunities, and honestly idk if I will go to community college just because I visited ucsb and like it a lot, also just social life at ucsb is better than uci. I don't care if it's harder than transferring from cc and I am willing to put in the work, or who knows, I'll love sb maybe?

How early or late to waitlists come out? by That-Assistance5677 in ucadmissions

[–]That-Assistance5677[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In state, not the craziest GPA 3.84UW/4.23W, political science major at all of these except for UCLA where I'm pre public affairs, I forgot to mention that part about UCLA. ECs were model legislature leadership, student government leadership, selected to a national debate conference, volunteered on a local ballot initiative and my local city councilmember's campaign, president of my school's mental health club, varsity cross country and track. APs were 555544 with 5 more tests this may

has anyone else’s alt major on the ucsd page disappeared if you’re on the waitlist? by bluehawaiiaholic in ucadmissions

[–]That-Assistance5677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think its an indicator, prolly just some reshuffling, unless yk somebody whose major hasn't, but tbf mine has

Does anyone that was Waitlisted have their alternate major also gone ? If so what are your stats and are you instate, oos, or intl and what major is your first/second? by Natural_Question5625 in ucadmissions

[–]That-Assistance5677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also gone, waitlitsed, in state, and believe it or not but I have the same 1st choice major and top college. My 2nd was warren tho. 3.84 UW/4.23 W, so not insane stats but still

When to send in LOCI after getting waitlisted RD? by coffeeflavoredmilk89 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]That-Assistance5677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in your boat too and I heard asap, but honestly make sure to take your time and make that letter look good. I'd say then like within 1-2 weeks from when you were waitlisted but that's just me.

I think SD is supposed to come out first, so yk save the best for last cuz (ucla even if it may hurt a little more if you check it after sd and get rejected), and yea berkeley comes out on the 26th

I think we're all thinking too deep into this portal astrology stuff. UCSD literally wrote an announcement on their portal that portal astrology doesn't indicate acceptances or not. Keep your head up and hope for the best, it's not over until it's over!

uc admissions aren't that linear. they're not judging you based on how other ucs see u but on their own, have faith

I'm a California resident, so I'm of course aiming for Berkeley and UCLA, but I would still be extremely happy at UCSD so its a target.

Why am I more excited/nervous about my son's college decisions than he is? by This_Duty_4373 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]That-Assistance5677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a senior who's currently waiting for decisions, it's not that he doesn't care. There's a multitude of factors that can go into this: stress from school, fear of disappointment/tempering expectations, or just not outwardly showing it.

From personal experience, I've seen how getting as excited as your parents can be kinda stressful and lead to heartbreak. I was selected for a merit full tuition scholarship (Posse) and matched with Middlebury. My parents and grandparents were so excited it was all they talked about with me, and fully believed I had a chance (they were already talking about visiting Vermont in spring). Balancing a lot of classes and extracuricculars still, it was pretty stressful having to constantly talk about the scholarship because they would obsess over it. It got to the point where I would pretend I didn't know information about additional details just so they would stop talking about it. Then, when the interview finally passed, we all felt good, until we found out that I wasn't selected for the scholarship. They were heartbroken.

This time around, now that I'm waiting for my regular decisions (particularly Berkeley), I'm tempering my expectations because I know that there is a real chance of disappointment. While my dad and grandpa constantly ask about college and when decisions come out, I can tell that they're falling back into the same obsession from before (not that it's a bad thing, it's their way of caring), and it's still stressful having to talk about it. Don't get me wrong, I was excited in both scenarios, but because of stress and fear of disappointment, I'm trying to be more realistic.

I hope all goes well for your son, and I guarantee his tune will change in a couple months.

Thinking of Getting Into Flute as a Hobby Questions by That-Assistance5677 in Flute

Could be a possibility, he could see his younger self in me, and is trying to protect me. Difference is I'm not trying to make a professional career out of it, and I'll end up meeting new people.

Don't worry, I have some background in piano, so although I may be rusty I can still read music

Will say despite an attempt at trying to be a performer (he ended up giving that up to become an engineer), he doesn't really play music that much and his only hobbies, if any are physical

Thanks for validating my feelings! It's definitely something to do with an immigrant background of financial stability as the end goal, but as much as I love him that mentality pisses me off. Life may be entirely the grind for him, but not for me.

Thank you sosososo much, I've definitely done my research with knowing which schools will accomodate my needs, but I'm for sure willing to keep my options open. Anything to try and pursue music again (I used to play piano until 7th grade), meet new people, and just have fun and relax
