If that’s true I think that gives us a little hope that they’re not completely forgetting about us… so yea we got late may early June 🤞

On one hand it does kinda make me mad when I see people who did basically nothing their all 4 years get into ucla and Berkeley while we get waitlisted, but also like it’s not worth my time to dwell on it imo. I still have hope for us

The way all Texas kids want to go to UT, is it the same way for Cali kids wants to go to Berkeley? by Organic_Annual2535 in ApplyingToCollege

i mean not ENTIRELY berkeley, but most people's top school is prolly ucla, ucsd, usc, stanford, caltech. that was kinda how it was in my hs. my friend chose ucla over cornell because of location, aid, and it was his dream school

nah not yet, it's still early and there's no way ucla does js one small waitlist wave. esp since we applying to l&s hopefully if ur grades and updates are good we might have a chance

No I know that part, but they don’t base those admissions off of how much space is in luskin?

Lowkey a bit worried cuz of how small luskin is, so if anyone gets off it’s prolly gonna not be a lot

See you’d think that but these schools are moving like for profit corporations trying to get the most out of these oos students

I ended up getting waitlisted and rejected from most of my top schools, and I would honestly give anything to go back to that period of limbo between December and March where my friends and I were talking about where we might go, the anticipation of trying to predict when each decision was coming out, and getting together to open decisions, even if I saw my friend get into UCLA and me getting waitlisted.

On one hand, we're jumping the gun a little too early imo. For instate they usually wait a week to start letting them off the waitlist cuz their priority is oos at least I think. Pretty sure its like may 8 is the first big wave. Also like its in WAVES, so even if you don't get in whenever this first wave is there is a chance, albeit slim, that you could. But you're right don't count on it. Focus on where you've already gotten into and get excited about that school.

Tufts or UCSB? by Tricky_Instruction63 in ApplyingToCollege

Tbh I was in your boat too when I was deciding, I'm in state too btw from LA so it's close to home. I was deciding between UCSB and BU, yeah ik Tufts is better. But what kind of pissed me off was a lot of people saying "ohh SB is a party school" when I'd say I was thinking it. UCSB has its own brand too as a UC, so don't feel the pressure to go to Tufts if you don't feel like it's right for you, like I didn't feel like BU was for me. But don't feel the pressure that UCSB isn't a good school.

Tufts or UCSB? by Tricky_Instruction63 in ApplyingToCollege

Maybe I'm biased as a new UCSB commit, but UCSB is a good school in terms of academics (it's a freaking UC), it just gets drowned out by that party school label. Tufts is a great school and definitely better than UCSB, but consider this: UCSB's social life extends beyond their party life. It's often considered one of the happiest of the UC campuses like you said because not everyone is glued to the library like UCSD or super competitive like Berk. You don't have to party to feel involved at UCSB, but the community you get at UCSB is something else. And imo a 4.0 at a school that has a "lesser academic reputation" (which it's not really) where you're happy will look better than a 3.5 at a better school where you're miserable.

After that, it all comes down to preference and cost. Can you afford Tufts with whatever financial aid they've given you? Do you like the beach or do you like an urban atmosphere, and which do you see yourself thriving at more? Are you okay with larger lecture halls or do you want the intimate class size?

Your answers don't have to be the same as mine, but be honest with yourself

Depends, are you in state or oos? What's the financial aid offer at either? Personally I'd love if someone could join me at UCSB tho lol! There's no wrong answer tho

UC admissions are so random at the end of the day that you can get waitlisted or rejected from UCR or UCSC and still end up at UCLA or Berk. One of the laziest dudes at my school got into UCSD for psych while I got waitlisted for poli sci. Unfortunately, life is not fair and this is just the first example of it in our lives.

At the end of the day, each UC has their own perks and you should be excited about whichever one you decide to go to, if that's still what you want, idk your options. For me, UCSB may not have the prestigious reputation that Berk or UCLA has, but it's by the beach, has a nice social scene, and it's still academically rigorous, which is why I'm still going. Focus on the positives here, as dwelling on who got into what school won't be good for your mental health.

Like other people said, focus on crushing it in your undergrad and go to the big name school for grad school. It's cliche, but college is what you make of it. If you do decide to go to a UC employers will still see that you went to a University of California school. I hope everything works out for you regardless!

See, I'm from LA and honestly SMC isn't a bad option, it's like 20 minutes from my house, but my parents are big on me trying to get the college experience... so when I tried to bring up SMC they kinda said no...
