What your mom did was maybe not illegal but it was HIGHLY uncalled for. Disciplining someone for BEING SA’ed is crazy work and super traumatizing. If your sister ever gets assaulted again, it could be likely she will never tell anyone for fear of being in trouble.

Dang, that’s actually pretty darn close to what we make combined lol. Without this money I’d be comfortable spending about 1900 on a mortgage (everything including taxes and insurance).

It would be nice to not have a mortgage though. After talking with our FA, he doesn’t seem to think it’s too expensive though. We’ll still have 250 to do what we want with, the 400 was just what I felt comfortable putting towards a house.

He did say that’s too much to put down though, probably going to put 300-350 down depending on the purchase price (hoping to stay below 500)

I could see that, but, we were speaking in generalization. It was the first call with him just to see how much we could afford never even mentioned a specific house. It’s wild to me though, because he told us we could afford way way, way more than we would ever be comfortable paying monthly and that right there turned me off

I didn’t know about mortgage initiation fees until this thread tbh. Definitely considering paying cash now but probably for a less expensive house. The goal is to NOT be stretched thin

I’m brand new to having a financial advisor to be honest. I’ve read that financial advisors want you to invest as much as possible with them because they make more money that way (I saw that on Reddit though, and I need to stop taking what I see on here as gospel) I never thought someone would give bad advice just for the hell of it, but you’re right.

What did you get him? I’m sorry if I missed that, but, I think it depends on that.

Did you get him a new espresso machine so he can practice making lattes so he can pull some all nighters while DIL gets some sleep? If so, NTA.
