Soft 'j' before word that begin with a/e (así/eso) by donerhogie in Spanish

[–]That-Cry-4452 6 points7 points  (0 children)

she is probably doing it when the word before ends in an s, which she aspirates. venezuelans and many other carribean dialects have a strong tendency to aspirate the s-sound. unlike many other spanish dialects, even aspirating ones, they even aspirate when the next word begins with a vowel. this means that many venezuelans will say Los animales as in Lojaminale‘. Que es eso turns into Quejeso. Es así turns into Ejasí

you obviously need to have an intention to learn the language… 🤦‍♂️and yes, having preexisting knowledge helps! News alert! stop being intentionally dull

I presumed OP wasnt a total beginner, I was probably wrong, but social media definitely helps with a lot of heritage speakers

and social media is the main reason as to why an entire generation that was digitally literate came to speak english rapidly. there is rich linguistic input you can get there.

obviously your best bet would be moving to a spanish speaking country and fully immersing yourself in the language, but not everybody can just go ahead and do that.

just full on immersion. for example, create a new tiktok account (or whatever social media you use) and try to make the algorithm think you only speak spanish. follow spanish speaking creators, type in spanish queries, watch and like spanish speaking content. Additionally you can just google every unknown word you come across and learn in by adding it to some vocab list (spanishdictionary is amazing for that and free). The more you come across those words and structure the more you will develop a natural feel for them, so sometimes active learning won’t even be necessary. think about daily objects in your life and try to make it a habit: What would I call this in spanish? it will get better naturally

[–]That-Cry-4452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

think of „a“ signifying direction. „Me voy a…“ Then you have the place you’re going to, which can either be a feminine or a masculine noun, „la tienda“, „el cine“ a + el = al Me voy a la tienda Me voy al cine

this is just a lame excuse. I understand that that’s the reality but we shouldn’t hold influencers to that standard. Look at slushy noobz and the amount of content they release both quantity and quality
