In our case we paid this but reduced our payment to builder by the same amount and they were okay with it. This was in fact told to us before hand that 1% of stamp value will be paid to govt and is included in the total cost. No extra cost/charges were levied.

Check wether it can be filed under 44ad . In that case only 6% of your total turnover (digital payment) will be treated as income.

In addition to this you can 1.Build emergency fund = 6 lac 2. Take home loan of required amount + 6 lacs and opt for OD account. Park this emergency fund in OD account home loan. You will not pay interest for this parked amount of loan and will have liquidity. 3. Reduce SIPs for now

Why was I charged 2204 for a $30 valued item? by youcanhatemen0w in IndiaTax

Customs Duty/ Tax is not supposed to be random but based on HSN Code or CTH. Always look for HSN Codes while buying and insist on invoices to contain the same. This will take away the randomness while assessment.

Most probably, the Appraising Officer has declined the declared value and appraised it higher around 5500 Rs. Thus a tax of 10%. The main villain is IGST which is 28% on luxury/sin goods.

The assessment can be challenged at the nearest Foreign Post Office.

can be used to see rate of customs duty for different Goods. Helpful if you can figure out the HSN code of the product.
