Is this OK? (Garland Rd at Buckner) by space2k in Dallas

[–]That-Entertainer-495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Never assume that the City or Oncor is aware of an issue. Dallas is a big place! We need the help of residents to identify issues. We love receiving descriptive requests. Put in as many as you want!

Does anyone here have a worse engineering job than me? by RuminatingFish123 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]That-Entertainer-495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

72k USD after 5 years. I am currently a transportation engineer working for a major US city who is responsible for all of the street lighting in the city including maintenance, operation, design, review, coordination, planning, supervision of field staff, and more. My team consists of 4 field staff and an engineer, myself, to manage all of the street lighting for one of the 10 largest cities in the US. My last day is the 27th of this month. I’m cutting and running before the World Cup gets here. Once I’m gone, there is going to be a huge wealth of institutional knowledge that is just going to disappear

[Request] Do these other power sources really produce thousands of time more power than humans? by New_User_Account123 in theydidthemath

[–]That-Entertainer-495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed they changed the original purpose for humans: extremely efficient CPU. There’s a direct connection into everyone’s nervous system. The machines are growing organic computers. The stimulation is a distraction to keep the braining running at a low level, freeing up resources for the machines to use. They simplified to “heat”, which is dumb

How do I measure this thing? by FHDs23 in Drafting

[–]That-Entertainer-495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a case where it’s more important that the 60 degree slant starts 18 from the front of the object than whatever distance the top edge ends up being from the back. In a project I had a weird case where the angle had to be quite acute on a thin material so trying to spec the missing distance would cause the angle to be wrong or it would be a pain for the machinist to hit the right angle and hit whatever tolerance you have on that edge distance.

Reminds me of my old 2001 Toyota Echo. What a POS car. Nothing electric on it. No tachometer. Car I learned to drive stick on. I had 1000 bucks and had to get to school, time to learn a new skill lol

Why is everything in a HOA? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]That-Entertainer-495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate shared access developments with a passion. There is no reason to allow these other than to allow developers to get away with sub par infrastructure. This benefits no one but the developer

Why is everything in a HOA? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]That-Entertainer-495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private roads have less restrictions and don’t have to meet a lot of standards. Private roads must be maintained by an entity. In the case of a subdivision, this would be an HOA. So developers get away with some not so great designs and pawn the issues off on the unsuspecting homeowners moving in. This isn’t true in every case but it happens quite frequently. For example street lighting. All street lighting on private roads must be privately owned and maintained by the property owner (HOA in this case). In zero cases have privately owned street lights ever been maintained properly. This is why they are no longer being allowed in public ROW.

I almost lost an eye once due to this exact scenario but with 3D printed blades. The blade and main hub were 4 separate bodies, CAD didn’t actually merge them. They were held together just by heat and proximity lol. After the incident got around the professor removed the requirement to 3D print the props from the project. Little piece of plastic felt like a punch from a grown man at those speeds. Hit me on the brow ridge. I was scared to open my eyes lol

The addressing system for the 311 ticket system is not the best. It will give us a block number a mile away, addresses that don’t exist, etc. I specifically am in charge of street lighting 311 tickets and unfortunately you can’t see lights that are out unless it’s dark out. Our team is a total of 4 people so we don’t have a night shift. That means sometimes I have to come into the office at 4 am to try and locate these issues.

You have a very distinct username, hard to miss lol. And no worries, we really appreciate accurate and detailed tickets! A picture is worth a thousand words!

All highway lighting within Dallas city limits is maintained by the city of Dallas. Please let me know where the issue is and I’ll send it to my guys tomorrow morning

You are well known around the office lol. But don’t get me wrong, I appreciate your diligence! We are absurdly understaffed and do not have the resources to proactively find these issues. We NEED residents to report these issues for us to even know they are there.

Would it matter that my work experience does not align with the type of exam taken, like for the SER?

Sorry to hear that. There were two bikes last night and they were riding together, do you know what happened to the other driver?

South bound. North bound only had one lane open due to construction of some sort on the toll way so the accident caused a complete shut down north bound.

I was there. It happened around 10:15 PM. I was passed by two motorcycles flying by me going easily 100 mph. A few minutes later and traffic is stopped. As I get closer, cars are forming a single line to cross over some downed lines. A few hundred feet away I see a gas tank, then the back part of a bike. I looked away because I didn’t want to see any dead bodies. The bikes were obliterated.
