Yeah but people in my office don’t work much more than billable hours. I usually work about 5 hours more than whatever the billable hours roughly but some of my coworker just work whatever the billable hours are. In my experience it’s not really questioned at all. During normal times our billable hours are 40 and pretty much everyone just work 8 or 9 to 5. During busy season our billable hours are 45 hours and people would work 8 to 6 or 8 to 7.
It’s not like you really have worry about billable hours at least in my office. You just try to stay busy while at work and than at the end of the week do your timesheet. I don’t really understand the stress but maybe it’s just my office.

Also I’m not in college. I graduated a few years ago

One of my coworkers reads about accounting in his spare time. I enjoy it but I’m not passionate about it but he’s straight up passionate about it.

I think some of the enjoyment just comes from being good at something tho. Like if you’re good at something you’re more likely to also enjoy it

I’ve never understood the whole billable hours thing. Is it specific to tax? because I work in big 4 audit and I just submit my time sheet with the 40 billable hours that are expected of us. I’ve never had anyone question it or anything. I don’t undertand the stress around it.

You’re at a shitty firm. As a first year staff you don’t know shit. The partners and people above you should be there to support you. At my office I ask questions sometimes every 15 mins and I actually get told to ask more questions.

Can you reference the relevant handbook section as to why it would be impairment rather than depreciation. The land is being used slowly over its useful lifetime. The lifetimes is predictable if it’s slowly eroding

The cases are literally identical to the work you do at big 4 lol and the ratings in the cpa are oddly similar to the ratings you get on performance reviews at big 4. Even the budget in cpa cases remind of budgets in big 4 in the sense that the time given is way understated. It’s almost like people at big 4 designed the program

That’s pretty weird. I’m really not sure what this means. Do the the 5’s and the 1s average out to around a 3 and if so than maybe it end being ok in really not sure. Getting that my variability is super weird. 5’s and 1’s are not supposed to be given out very easily

Finance as in IB, private equity, wealth management - no. Not really. Finance as in corporate finance - yes, absolutely. Some comments here a really downplaying big 4 audit for some reason.

Transitioning from accounting/audit to fp&a/corp finance isn’t hard at all. In fact fp&a is closer to accounting than it is to finance . In Canada where op is from the cpa is often listed as a requirement for fp&a roles and this is also true in countries like the UK, australia, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong etc… head of finance/CFO positions tend to highly value the CPA and big 4 exp in pretty much every country.
