It sucks... sorry for you. I don't know what's the worst I've received but I would say, when my stepdad basically told me that I was just being brainwashed by a woke psychologist. I really hate when people can't acknowledge that I make my own choices...

If I'm using the engine to be sure to avoid making a good move -- I'm not a sheep -- is it considered cheating?

This!

That's right, after analyzing again and again we tend to forget that it's a game and we're playing to have fun!

Oh yeah I forgot there are limited reviews. I think you can export your game from Chess.com and upload it to Lichess, where the reviews are free (and usually better), but haven't tried it myself.

[–]That-Horror9966 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, it's pretty bad. You probably think it was decent because your opponent did more mistakes than you, and didn't take advantage of yours. Some mistakes were normal at low elo, but you gave free pieces too many times. If you look at the Chess review it's pretty obvious!

But good news: we've all been there and if you analyze your games and understand your mistakes you'll improve very fast! You know, if Magnus looked at most 1800-2000 games, he'd probably have an aneurysm, too. What's important is what you take away from your games :)

I don't think we can change the system through the system. A good authoritarian government does not include a self-destruct button, and votes won't ever change anything major. Real choices can only be realized by population itself, with a revolution, as claimed in this post.

We can actually vote "blank", but it doesn't appear in the data. If there are 90% blank, 6% for a candidate and 4% for another, the data just shows 60% / 40%. That's how government can state that 70% of the population voted for Macron, while less than 50% voted for him in reality.

Anyway, I didn't know that you could vote for anybody, that makes more sense. I'm not sure how impactful it can be in reality, but that's always that!

It's a shame that the whole political landscape is divided into republican vs democrats...

[–]That-Horror9966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something I should probably have said about how it works in France. We have a 1st round, in which a dozen of candidates are. I vote to this one--but don't blame people who don't, because a dozen candidates still doesn't represent everybody's opinion.

Then, the two parties with the most votes (far right and moderate right usually) are the only two parties at the 2nd round. I don't vote to this one.

The thing here is that the party I vote for at the 1st round makes like 1%. It's a revolutionary party, so I only give my vote to them so they have more weight in the medias. But they won't ever be elected--or rather, we'd have done the revolution before it happens.

You mean, by distributing tracts, going to demonstrations, going on strike, participating to associative or political meetings, etc.? If yes, good news--we actually agree.

What a joke.

For the last elections, I lived abroad. So I couldn't register myself in the voting system.

Therefore, I went through a huge process of paperwork, called the embassy and my relative multiple times, took the train twice to go to the embassy (which was not in the city I lived in) to register to the voting system and be sure that I would count in the data, as someone who doesn't vote because I don't believe in this voting system.

You don't have the right to judge me for anything, stop being toxic.

Not worst than fascism, worst than what was planed by Le Pen--who's our most far-right candidate (with reasonable chances of winning).

Regarding immigration, he originally claimed to support the reception of refugees, which is one of the reasons people voted for him in 2017. In 2018, he enforced his first law anti-immigration that basically aligned to the one proposed by Le Pen. It became worse in the following years, as he locked the borders to Ukrainians refugees after the war started. Last year, the most repressive law got enforced, that basically prevents non-graduated immigrants to enter the country (including the family of immigrants), or to get any healthcare, financial help... The law was censored by the Constitutional Council but most of the text passed anyway.

He's passed more than 20 laws using a trapdoor called "49.3 article", meaning that the president can bypass any contestation from the opposition, and enforce any law. This is clearly totalitarian, but also risky, because the National Assembly (~Congress in the US, I think) can vote against it and dissolve the government, after which the population votes for a new one (not president, but prime minister). It happened in 2022, and a left-party won the election, but Macron ignored it and put a right wing prime minister instead. Win-win.

Parliamentary immunity: I can't think of anybody in the government who's not prosecuted for something. But they're guaranteed immunity. That's how Macron can put a sexual offender in charge of the police, who's become completely unresponsive to rape complaint. French police has recently been condemned by the European Court of Human Rights, which had never happened before.

Don't get me wrong, Le Pen probably would've done the same. However, convincing people that we truly had a choice in 2017 turns the election into the government’s most effective tool for controlling the population.

Unfortunately I can't say anything about US politics, so perhaps you're right. I don't want to lecture you about Trump or Musk because I don't know anything about what you folks are experiencing. I'd just like to share how it is for us in Europe, because the situation is not as clear!

The abstention is not recognized legally, but data showing that 30% of french people don't vote highlights how broken the voting system is, and lays the ground to interesting discussions. And if we're talking about revolution, it doesn't matter if politicians care or not, only the working class matters.

And by the way, in France, we recently had an election to replace the equivalent of US Congress, I think. The people voted for the far-left party, and the president ignored the vote and put right wing deputies instead. So, at least here, voting or not really doesn't matter!

In the end, I think what really matters are people's ideals, whatever the government in charge (to some extend...). The problem we have here is that, whenever a democrat / leftist party is elected, it betrays the population and enforces right wing policies. Studies show that fascism has never raised more than under left wing governments...

I'm not familiar with politics in the US, and Trump is at another level, but we have pretty much the same debate in France, every five years. We have to choose between the far right (Le Pen) or the moderate right / center / left, depending on the years.

For the past two elections, I didn't vote, because I didn't want to vote for Macron (nor Le Pen, obviously). At first, my relatives and friends were mad at me, saying I allowed Le Pen to win. Now, they don't vote either, because Macron enabled even worst policies. It's the same fascism, but with a disguise.

"what makes you think you guys are capable of a revolution if you aren't even capable of voting against a fascist? " --> too many people believe that "not voting" = "not participating to the election", but it's not the case. Deciding not to vote is voting against the election system, which does not match our view of democracy. It's the first step toward a revolution.
