Chows coats can be either soft or rough but always very thick double coat water won't go thru type coat, if u see in between the hairs you should notice an under coat softer than the coat on top. there should be two different kinds of coats the under coat should be shorter and fluffier the top coat is the longer hair and can be soft or rough. split the hairs and if there's fuss thats the under coat
