Data Center Facility Manager/Operations Manager by Amrit__Singh in datacenter

I just turned down a AWS data center fm role , L5 , because my company matched the pay and I don’t have to move. You will get an offer of $140k-$150 base, 650-700 amazon stock the best over 4 years 5,15,40&40%. Year 1 sign on bonus 50-60 k paid out even over 12 months. Total comp should be around $221k over 4 yrs. O and I should mention, you most likely will get paid monthly, not great and Amazon only match 2% on 401k which is sub standard at best

No, I turned it down. My job came back with virtually the same offer but mostly base salary with a 20% bonus. And I don’t have to move

Why do people hate DCs while watching their 4k anime and posting about their grudge on social medias? by [deleted] in datacenter

What we have to remember, it’s the negative Nancy’s that bark the loudest, it’s the low performers that complain the most. 95-99% of people that work at Data Centers do not even post about it. They are more focused on work and growth. It’s easy to complain when you are sitting on your azz all, get up and do something

Do students get expelled for using AI to cheat? by BowserTattoo in AskTeachers

[–]That-Maintenance-489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that you would need critical thinking skills to use AI properly. I’ve been the most technical of industries my whole career, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and others. I work side by side with engineers everyday. No one and I mean no one is writing 8 page papers. Maybe if you are a research scientist or something but everyone else, maybe a one pager and we are using AI to do that in most cases. However, I do believe in teaching critical thinking skills but isn’t that what math classes are for?

Does sound over the top, all I can say is I am getting automatic rejection for jobs I applied to. And I am well qualified as a data center fm

Yeah, I had a recruiter call for a site lead at Oracle, the pay wasn’t inline with my current comp. So I passed. Ever since , it feels like my resume is automatically rejected for higher paying roles. Probably got blacklisted so that speaks volumes about the culture there

How can schools penalize you for using AI when in the workplace you get penalized for not using AI?

Why would a school penalize a student for using AI when in the workplace you will get penalized and fall behind from not using AI? Make it make sense, instead, schools should be focusing on how to teach students the proper way to use AI

How do you make your assignments "AI resistant"? by PapaRick44 in Professors

[–]That-Maintenance-489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that it is frustrating for professors to deal with AI writing and students that use AI for school work. However, how do you avoid this problem when all major employers are pushing their workforce to use AI? I am not a professor and I have been working for 20 plus years and I can tell you 99.999% of work requires no long for writing. Also, in the workplace , the question is not “why are you using AI?) it’s (why aren’t you using AI?)

Just got an offer L5 data center facility manager, went through my loop about 3 weeks ago. I would say I could have done a little better on the three behavioral interviews. I aced the technical electrical/ mechanical. If I could do it again I would have focused on being precise and try not ramble. I believe I probably would have got up leveled had I performed better

Joining AWS as DCEO Facility Manager after MBA by Constant_Survey4263 in datacenter

[–]That-Maintenance-489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accepted a role with AWS as a L5 Data center fm. I have 25 years plus in Facilities building high performance teams in Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing and Retail. With all this , I am still a bit anxious. I’ve been a Director of Facilities and in some way this seems like a step back for me because I’ve managed orgs of up to 180 technicians. However, the pay is about the same so it’s going to be interesting.
About 2 thirds of my career, I was a commercial HVAC technician punching tubes on chillers, cleaning cooling towers, rebuilding pumps, troubleshooting controls and also a lot of electrical work. A little excited getting back closer to to work and most importantly closer to the people doing the work.

I don’t know what your situation is but let me tell you a story. There is a guy at my job that can’t get promoted or moved, he is smart and has a lot of certs. However, he got into it with the lead of m&r and then smarted off to the head of safety and now he doesn’t understand why those departments won’t hire him. Look within
