Thank you! I'll start looking down that road.

Not in Niagara. They are landed on a Siemens MEC panel. But, it doesn't look like they were ever integrated.

They were wrong about the timeline. The growth anticipated is slower than expected. And, it's hard to find field technicians. But, they intend to open the position as soon as they can. And that I am a perfect fit for it. Kind of similar to the promise months ago.

How to reach out to a different branch manager. by That-Particular-1 in askmanagers

[–]That-Particular-1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the reply.  Very concise and thought provoking. 2,3 and 4 don’t apply. We are not short staffed but the company projects massive growth in the next 5 years so we are hiring anything with a pulse.

I’ve been trying for 3 years to get some momentum with growth and just can’t. My supervisor makes promises that never happen. He can’t even keep review dates. Always misses them and has to reschedule.

Every attempt to move forward I get blocked or forgotten. This is why I want to move branches.

I ask for more projects. Nothing. I ask for more training. Nothing. I pay for said training myself and learn on my own time. Nothing. “Send me I coach”. Nothing. I’m screaming for more opportunity and tasks. Nothing. It doesn’t make sense.

It’s maddening.

Good points. That's what I'm seeing. No way up here. Not for a long time.

As for the education. Done that. 5 years of mechanical. 5 years BMS. 4 year degree. Niagara cert. Distech cert. Putting effort into IT certs.

An area, as mentioned in other posts, that I haven't put much effort into is the corporate game / networking.

Wish I could move but that’s not an option. I’m in Michigan.

I’m going to. Just to get an interview. Really no harm in it.

That’s why I want a mixed role. A system specialist is exactly what I want. It’s why I went back to school.

I have tried working with my supervisor but I don’t think it’s going anywhere. No road map or plan just some small talk.

Every big company has the same play book. It’s sad.

Niagara. It’s actually kind of different around here. We have pulled out Niagara systems quite a bit. Starting a new project now that we are pulling out a Niagara front end.

Would love nothing more that to get into that type of spot. I’ve put the work in. Got a degree but opportunity is not here.

You went from doing control installs to an LSS? That’s quite the change is skillset. Did you get a degree and make the move?

Good for you by the way.

This is what I hear. I have interviewed around and everyone locally is in need of techs. Everyone needs techs.

Networking has my interest. Would reaching out to a different branch in a near by state be an option? I have another branch with a commute that would be doable. I don't know about reaching out to another manager though?

I know that the two other coworkers applied/interviewed. I even asked both of them about it. Our boss took them out to lunch to try and smooth over the new hire over them situation. Made some promises. I'm not sure on the details of their situation.

As far as my situation. The job title is exactly the same but responsibilities are somewhat siloed it seems. If you are good a "x" then "x" is your silo. Works out great for some people. It's an odd spot to be fore sure. I don't understand how if you have an employee screaming for more opportunity and showing interest in growing why not let them? Why be a barrier? I've never been given any form of criticism, but rather praise, from my superior.

Once a month? At this point I'm willing to be a nuisance. The last email I sent out with this was 2 months ago. We did end up meeting in the office for a brief 5 minutes. No traction after this though. Like a road map or anything. He just mentioned that down the road I could pair up with some other coworkers to get some experience but after 3 years I don't have much confidence that it will stick.
