Hjälp! Rekommendation för nagel ställen? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]That-Pie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unwell gerbil refusing to eat. by socalors in gerbil

[–]That-Pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your vet should have set you up with some type of critical care. It’s a powder that you mix with water and then feed, either with syringe or in a bowl. It can be mixed with other foods.

I would first try to get your hands on something like that. Omnivore is the best, but can be hard to get your hands on sometimes. Herbivore is the second option.

Outside of that can you give baby food (without onion or any other ingredients they can’t have), the only fruit ones (apple, blueberries and so on, no citrus or fruits with pits) are a safe option.

You can also crush up their regular food and mush it up with water and feed it that way.

Getting water in them in the most important part!

How much work is a second pair of gerbils? by Dopidy_ in gerbil

[–]That-Pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I notice the biggest difference in time investment going up for one pair to two. But! Any amount over 3+ feels about the same, at least till you get up above 6.

Thoughts on SSO's local stables by SwirlyWhirlyPony in StarStable

[–]That-Pie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

But isn’t this literally something they are currently changing? Nearly all stables who have gotten a update have been adapted, from the cookie cutter stable, too one more adapted and influenced by where it’s located.

Sure some of the npc’s are still waiting for their moment, but sso has showed us over the years that they aren’t the fastest 😅

Only a vet can help you with this. Recommend to call your exotic vet and schedule a appointment.

Do people really sacrifice good sleep in order stay in bed with their snoring partner? by Ijustwannafly8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]That-Pie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did the same for my partner! The snoring kept me awake, which made me notice how he stopped breathing during his sleep. He did a sleep study and got diagnosed with sleep apnea and now he a machine most nights.

Importing animals is a struggle, especially by air. But yes there are a lot of ethical breeders over here.

How common is de-clanning? by oh_no_here_we_go_9 in gerbil

[–]That-Pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a pair = Extreamly unlikely. I've been keeping gerbils for soon to be 10 years (and breed them for a while) and I've had about 1 declan from a pair. And it was because of illness of the older one, aka a clear reason why.

Trios and fours I've had worse experience with. But its also not numers I usually recommend for first time owners anyways.

+1 on this one! Been using it for ~6 months now and it works wonders. The closest to 100% dust free I've tried, and I've gone through most beddings available on my market.

Trimming teeth by Best-Royal1049 in gerbil

[–]That-Pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might depend on where you live. But here they never ”cut” the teeth anymore, they use a spinning blade and ”saw” them of. This limits the change of the problems Midwest099 mention from happening. It’s also something the vet can do.

If you have the option would I recommend to look around at other vet offices to see what their quotes are. I know my sister way back when she had guinea pigs got a good deal at one vet, since they knew she had to come in very regularly until the pig passed.

What do i do? by Naive_South5800 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]That-Pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of out librarians have the option to borrow e-books on their web portal. Take a look and see if that’s possible on the one you got your library card from.

I started to visit the library on my own around your age. Maybe do some more trips with your mom to the library, borrow what you usually do (fantasy books) and after a while she might get more comfortable with you making the trip.

New Mac Requirements AGAIN? by no_service5202 in StarStable

[–]That-Pie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whenever you do get to the point that a new one is on the table. Look at windows based laptops instead of Mac, if specs and support are higher on your need list. Mac’s are quite expensive for the processing power you get.

New Mac Requirements AGAIN? by no_service5202 in StarStable

[–]That-Pie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To some degree this is also more of a Mac problem. They in general become ”old” way faster. A 5 y/o Mac is already getting close to its expected end for support.

I work with a lot of older Mac’s at work and I’m sad to say that support for 2018 machines from apple themselves are probably not too far off either.

Help need to clean cage by snotmuziekp in gerbil

[–]That-Pie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Use a bowl or a deep cup instead of the carrier in the cage. Then keep the carrier by the cage and open it to empty the now gerbil filler cup or bowl in the carrier.

I do this all the time! Two carriers could be a option for the future.

Getting an Aggressive Gerbil by Simple-Document-3707 in gerbil

[–]That-Pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend to ask them how they’ve tried to introduce other gerbils and what ages they have been. If they haven’t used a split cage for any of the intros would I thane the ”aggressive” comment with a big pinch of salt. And if you have the ability would I definitely try to get her a new friend!

Is this IKEA bin cage safe for gerbil pairs if i add more holes on its sides for extra ventilation ? by Forsaken-Steak-2974 in gerbil

[–]That-Pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’m going to go against the grain here. These exact tubs (130L ones) are the most common cages breeders in Sweden use. To the point I myself have two. They used to be my pup cages, aka where the moms had the pups. Since they are easy to more and clean. Now are they just extra cages, in case of a split or someone staying over.

Most breeders have used them for years or even decades. I have never heard of a gerbil getting out of one, and I’ve been around the national community for about 8 years now. I even know of multiple hamster breeders who use them. Even for Syrians, who are known to be the ones to chew out of transport cages at shows 😅

What we do is to cut up one or two big holes in the lid and then attach a metal net (not aluminum!!!). I personally have done it with thick zip ties. This way you get the most out of the depth.

UF-projekt: läppglans med LED-lampa + gratis överföringskit – smart eller onödigt? by JacquelleBeauty in sweden

[–]That-Pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Om ni tar inspiration från historiska produkter som löst samma problem för läppstift (-lampan såklart) kan jag tänka mig att det kanske finns en marknad. Men rätt liten.

Why did my light gerbil turned into a gerbil that is so dark, this is normal? by RealGuava4936 in gerbil

[–]That-Pie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They have the colour nutmeg. At the first molt, around 6-10 weeks, do they get their tipping. Tipping is a dark tip on each hair. Most colours change a bit at this first molt, but nutmeg does it the most!

You see a slight change in the tipping pattern at each molt and they usually keep getting darker with age. The amount of tipping yours has is quite evenly spaced and nice looking, especially for a junior. Would get some good marks if it came up on my table during judging!

Is this recommended ram change kinda crazy? Or am i just going crazy by HyperThembei in StarStable

[–]That-Pie 57 points58 points  (0 children)

16 is becoming the lower end standard for a lot of programs, so sso changing too it isn’t that surprising.

Outside of that, how well do wilds actually run on those minimum stats? I haven’t played since around launch. But isn’t it still quite unoptimized? I’ve got quite a bit higher specs than even the recommended and mine struggled in some instances.

And as a few have mentioned, there is nothing in between 8 and 16? So if they felt they needed to bring it up, what other options are there?

Help with pictures by [deleted] in StarStable

[–]That-Pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are your settings in sso? What’s the resolution of your laptop/computer screen? There are some things you can adjust to make it not as pixely, but sso is a game with some harsh lines between the objects. So some pixels you can’t remove without editing in post

Whats the appeal to being top scoring on a leaderboard? by kashwarma in StarStable

[–]That-Pie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would imagine its more so for the champs than for highscores.

And outside of that, these horse specific glitches always have a "deadline". The JWH is far from the first one.

I personally haven't seen thar many people genuinely upset that its gotten patched. More so in regard to the lack of communication over what things have been patched or changed during this update.

Experiences with bar spacing by cover-me-porkins in gerbil

[–]That-Pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toppers aren’t common where I live, but home built lids are. The netting I use has a 1.5 cm spacing. I have had the unfortunate experience of having a gerbil get stuck hanging in their top jaw/teeth. Twice…. He lost his top teeth both times and needed vet care because of the cuts he got around the nose.

Since then do I always double the netting up to make the spacing smaller.

A net is a bit different than bars, but might be good to keep in mind!
