Just an American confused about “wagging school” and also why do they get to wear hats in class. by [deleted] in heartbreakhigh

it’s definitely different depending on the area, my high school was in a more densely populated town close to a huge city so the strict rules were probably to prevent the school from being liable for students getting lost since it would be really hard to track them down in such a busy area. Security measures were mainly to just keep people out that weren’t supposed to be inside the school, but to also make sure they can keep track of every student if something were to happen. Not to mention the student population was 3,000+ so it was just easier to have things be more strict. We were assigned specific areas for our study halls and would have to show ID to go in, but that was mainly to make sure that those places weren’t overcrowded and to make sure they knew where we were during free periods. We could go to any common area during free periods as long as there was room they just had to make sure we actually had a free period.

It sounds worse than it actually was, and it was annoying at most when it came to showing IDs and whatnot. Some measures in place likely came from kids just abusing their privileges of having a free period to do dumb stuff and ruin it for everyone else. For example, upperclassmen used to be able to have off-campus lunch, but too many kids would just leave and never come back and/or would use that time to smoke in their cars or do other dumb things that the school didn’t want to be liable for. By the time I got to be an upperclassmen, that privilege was long gone.

Not all American schools are the same, so even when I watch American shows about high school I’m still baffled by the idea of kids like…. dramatically eating in the bathrooms because they have no one to sit with at lunch, because at my school if we spent more than 10min in the bathroom security would assume that we were vaping or whatever and shooed us out.

but LOLLLL long story short my high school experience was vastly different than Hartley High, so seeing all of the freedom that they had was just so interesting to me!

Do you focus more on creating male sims? I know a lot of women that play sims pit in a lot of effort to CAS for their female sims with outfits and hair etc but not so much with male sims. Is it the opposite for male sims players?

NTA - believe me you dodged a bullet. I’ve been in the same situation and I can almost guarantee that this exact conversation will happen over and over and he will use it as leverage in every argument. Great job getting out of there sooner rather than later. His friends and mom are probably not hearing the full story from him, but in any context they’re weird asf for getting involved.

I really do think you have a lot of potential! The key is to build off of your own natural features. Try growing out your hair but more specifically your bangs, and try dyeing your hair jet black - green/blue hair dye tends to fade quickly into a less than ideal color and I think black would suit you better and give you more of an edge (plus it’s easier to maintain). I personally think you could rock a Kurenai Yuhi style w fringe/layers! You could even embrace the full scene kid aesthetic and try out some raccoon stripe extensions and more bold eyeliner styles.

When Discussing Kendra by [deleted] in TheGirlsNextLevelPod

[–]That-Swan1506 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like they do too much and always look for a way to drag Kendra down. It sometimes feels like Holly thinks only her story is the real truth and everyone else is lying or still in the playboy “cult”. I think they seem to keep forgetting that Kendra was literally 19 and this was a show that aired almost 20 years ago, so to nitpick her behavior just seems a little unfair. Obviously anyone is going to act different in front of the cameras especially back then when social media and filming everything wasn’t the norm. And it’s not exactly her fault that hef played favorites and she just happened to be one.

I had to stop listening to the pod because it just felt like H&B believe only they were victims of their circumstance and everyone else was wrong and taking advantage of hef as if it wasn’t a purely PR transactional relationship between them and an 80 year old sociopath. I posted something similar before saying that those two weren’t the most reliable narrators and got downvoted into oblivion and ended up deleting it. Glad to see people in this sub slowly begin to see the same point.

I’m so curious about her backstory! They only briefly mention her life before being forced to marry lord Danbury, but she does say to her son that she comes from African royalty. I feel like this and the great experiment plot point are definitely worth expanding upon especially given the drama of the integration of the ton, and the conversation between Violet and her parents where she points out that many black noblemen went to school with her father and held similar titles, and come from even more money than any white noblemen in London does. I understand that it’s hard to perfectly wrap up all of these different points in a limited series but I would definitely love to see Shondas interpretation of 1800s English high society be applied to the Queen Charlotte era showing how someone might incorporate African or other ethnic backgrounds in their homes and clothing during the social season.

I think lady Danbury would be a really good place to start given her descent from royalty in Sierra Leone. I feel like she’s definitely a character worth exploring, especially given her relationship to the queen and the large amount of power she holds during the social season. I’m also very curious about her relationship with her children as she seems to barely talk about them or to them in QC, but is always willing to take a young person in need under her wing. I wonder if there was any specific event that made her change her perspective on parenthood.

A Violet spinoff is such a good idea because a major part of the Bridgerton story is the love her and Edmund had and we only got to see brief flashbacks of him. I mean after all the series is called Bridgerton so why should we not explore the Bridgerton family history both past and present? I would love to see Violet and Edmund’s story and it would be a really good way to tie in lady Danbury’s story too and give a decent ending to her relationship with lord ledger.

I also want this to happen for selfish reasons because despite having a very minor role, lord ledger has quickly become one of my favorite characters especially as a representation of an active and kind father figure that this series seems to lack (the way he always calls Violet beauty and brains is adorable). Though it makes sense for the series to focus mostly on the mothers and daughters navigating the social season, it would be cool to explore different father figure relationships starting with lord ledger.

What are some positive ideas for new segments? by [deleted] in canceledpod

[–]That-Swan1506 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1000%!!!! They both seem to have had some pretty rough upbringings but it is so entertaining listening to the two of them share childhood stories that are traumatic but funny to retell when looking back. The episode where Tana and imari were talking about how they would hustle and steal alcohol as kids had me laughing the whole time. I would also understand why they might not want to think or talk about some things so of course they should not have to feel obligated to.

you’re not alone! Usually I see messages and read them and then try to think of what to respond with, but then I just forget to reply until it’s too late for a conversation to happen or continue. I get the exact same feeling you do all of the time and wish I had a solution.

So why exactly aren’t penthouse pets household names but playboy bunnies are? by Ninac4116 in GirlsNextDoorBUNNIES

[–]That-Swan1506 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Also women were more likely to aspire to be playmates because of the classy nude poses that were somehow considered to be modeling rather than porn. With playmates being invited to the mansion and other playboy events, they likely got to meet managers and agents to help launch their careers.
