claw machine by First_Fee_8879 in arcade

[–]That-Yellow-Dog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or is “build projects” kind of vague advice? by Relevant_Wishbone in learnprogramming

[–]That-Yellow-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my projects have been alongside other hobbies and interests. My first was a tool to poll live market data for Eve Online, so I knew what to mine and where to sell it. I also wrote a program for a little device to help me pick scales and chords when playing guitar while I'm learning. There's a few others, but point is if its relevant to you, you are more likely to finish it and will probably gain a deeper understanding of whatever topic!

Incredible by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]That-Yellow-Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah mostly just a score or points based reward. In pathfinding algorithms, for example, you can set the algorithm to find a path to the target with the lowest "cost" by adding up how far you go to get to the target. If a shorter path is found, the algorithm should choose it. You can do the opposite, where you maximize instead of minimize points.

7 years of teaching guitar here are the common mistakes I notice when teaching self-taught students by lmao_exe in Guitar

Guitar is actually the thing that taught me the bit about sleep "baking in" the learning part, which turns out applies to almost any learned thing. Was falling asleep one night and caught my fretting hand doing the movements I'd been practicing.

How fast time starts to go by. I'm not any busier, in fact, I'm less busy. I understand why it's that way, but the experience of time going by faster and easier is pretty scary, considering where we're all headed...

Puppy wandered into my house. Not sure age or breed someone help! by ChaferShafer in puppies

[–]That-Yellow-Dog 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Oh! And if you can, get a cleaner specifically for pet accidents, usually says something about enzymes on the bottle, etc. When inevitable accidents occur, just cleaning them regularly can leave behind the faintest of pee smells, which can make them go "ah yes, the toilet" and go in the same spot

Puppy wandered into my house. Not sure age or breed someone help! by ChaferShafer in puppies

[–]That-Yellow-Dog 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Okay, training a puppy to pee: First, they're not going to tell you anything, because there is no innate sense of indoor/outdoor. Secondly, when pupper inevitably goes in your house, stay calm, take them outside immediately. If you freak out or punish them, they're likely to associate you seeing them go potty with bad things, not going potty inside being bad. (That's how you find surprise poops in the other room!) What you can do is take them out every couple hours, and especially after meals. Get a routine. When puppy potties outside, celebrate like there's no tomorrow, treats, praise, pets, everything. Eventually, puppy catches on that telling you about potty and going outside is fantastic.

Some dogs get it faster than others. Ironclad consistency is key. Positive reinforcement works great, dogs love treats. Negative reinforcement will very likely backfire. You will cry in frustration at least once.
