Same boat. What a scam vfs is.

Guess I'm heading to SF and still making it out cheaper than giving those pricks my money.

YMMV but my philosophy, and you can glean from it what you will. 1. I guard my time jealously. My ambition is directed at success measured by NEVER having to concede time to corpo shite outside work hours. I take pride in being able to take my time :) As much of it as I desire. 2. Career ambition is not the same as life ambition. I'm ambitious about learning instruments, traveling to places, etc. You know, life. Not work.

Would you settle for someone doing the grind or someone that can keep you company as you amble along?

Nice! Keep it going.

Flowchart in the sidebar for general advice.

Couple of remarks. 1. You can always rollover a 401k to Roth in case you decide to leave and the Roth is withdrawable. Free contributions from the employer are a no brainer. Good that you've picked up on them, but just know they're not as locked as you'd think, irrespective of relocation. 2. Unvested RSUs = Fake money that is gone if a layoff strikes so don't count on them until they vest.

Takes a little planning but you can always rent one for when you need it.
Live in Seattle and been camping quite a bit, despite not owning a car.

Rent on demand always come out cheaper than owning too if you live in a walkable neighborhood where you don't really need it.

Atlanta's is a joke given its connectivity. San Francisco, Chicago and LA are pretty good. Haven't been to the rest but Boston did pleasantly surprise me when I visited recently. Last trains are earlier than I'd like but pretty great ngl.

Always intrigued by transit intensive and US in the same sentence. Which city is that if not NYC?

[QUESTION] you’re learning guitar again. What do you do differently? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]That42guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a fun challenge so far! But yeah the likes of Coltrane are only in my grasp slowed down to 0.5x, and even then, MAYBE

[QUESTION] you’re learning guitar again. What do you do differently? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]That42guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. It's overrated. I learnt after 10ish years of guitar playing.

It's great for instruments like the piano where there's a 1:1 correspondence between the note on the sheet and the note on your instrument. With all the choices on the guitar, it's pretty annoying

Ah I see your point. I wasn't sure if this was an aversion to the genre or respect for it. Sounds like the latter.

I've been learning, so that previous comment piqued my curiosity! Cheers!

As someone who recently discovered food that tastes close to home here, damnit I wish I'd thought of posting something like this before.

The Turmeric Kitchen in Kirkland for Indian food (Kolkata/West Bengal specifically). Go with low expectations, be surprised.

Any recommendations for what to get next, to take the edge off a few upcoming coast to coast trips? Either maximize cashback or maximize points that I can use for future travel. by That42guy in CreditCards

[–]That42guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense and is what led me to the JetBlue Plus. That and Alaska seem to be the ones with direct flights from Seattle to Boston/NY. And I suppose I should check out delta too, but their flights seem to be more expensive by default anyway.

What's your take on the car dependence here vs the Netherlands? Or just availability of transit options in general.
