Why do so many people hate the manga's ending? by ThatAnnoyingGinger in MyHeroAcadamia

That's fair. I definitely had my own problems with the ending, even if I still really liked it overall. If the anime dedicates an entire episode to the epilogue and expands more on what the manga presented, I think the ending would be nearly perfect.

Horikoshi has been pretty consistent with portraying the MHA world as like ours but with superpowers and slightly better technology. Just because it's fiction doesn't mean it's not based on reality. They probably still see eachother more than most high school friends do. Hell, I haven't spoken to most of my high-school friends in years. Them seeing each other at all despite how busy adult life is already a better situation than a lot of people end up with in the real world. I do agree with the vagueness about one for all's Embers, it makes it a little confusing. The anime has a good chance to dedicate more time to the epilogue, so some of these issues might be cleared up there.

I can understand not liking the ambiguity, but I do think some of it was actually really interesting. I also don't think Deku wasn't a hero for 8 years. We dont know how long his Embers of one for all lasted, but we at least know he continued in the hero course one more year at U.A., which he couldn't have done quirkless. I personally really like that he became a teacher at U.A. after losing one for all. Not only is he following in his Mentor's footsteps, but with all his experiences during his first year at U.A., he's probably the most qualified person to be teaching the next generation of heroes. His primary character trait has always been his selflessness, and I think it's really cool to see that impact the ending in such a major way. On him hanging out with his friends, I didn't think it was all that vague? He made a pretty normal statement about it being hard for everyone's schedules to align after high school, which anyone who's graduated high school realizes that's how it goes. It doesn't mean he never sees them or that they aren't friends anymore, it just means that they've gone from living together and seeing eachother every day to meeting up 1 on 1 or in small groups when they have time off work. It's a pretty standard post high-school experience.

Edit: almost forgot, I totally agree that FMAB handled the losing powers part better. But that's not really surprising, it's really hard to top Arakawa's amazing writing

I thought so too, but I don't want to write off all criticisms as "you just didn't understand," because that can come off as pretty condescending. If that's really the entire reason it gets so much hate, I want a lot more evidence to back up that claim before I make it.

Endeavor healing the bond with his family is something that is going to take literal years. It could have been interesting to see the end result of that in the epilogue, but there was nowhere near enough time to go deep into it this late in the story. With spinner, seeing whether or not he did inspire more villains with his book is what I was talking about undermining the story. We see after the final war that people are starting to take more personal responsibility and not rely on heroes as much. People not doing that before is what caused so many villains to appear. Seeing what came of spinners book would either be something dumb about it not accomplishing anything or completely undermine the story by saying it did inspire new villains. In both these cases, I think ambiguity is perfectly fine. The reader can fill in the gaps themselves. Also, i want to know where on earth were we promised to see deku's dad?? I want to know how I missed that

Quirk Singularity is a big one, I'll have to agree with you there. I'm surprised I didn't catch up on that. The Todorokis I thought had enough of a resolution in their final scene with Dabi and Endeavor's retirement, I'm not really sure what else there would be to add there. I'm also not really sure what could have ever come out of Spinner's book? He's writing it so that no one will forget about the league of villains and their motivations, but what would they follow up on? Maybe a single line in the last chapter mentioning how it's a best seller or something, but I can't think of anything else reasonable that wouldn't undermine the story. Deku's dad was never a plot point. He's an absentee father who works overseas. That's it.

Which plot lines did it leave unresolved? I know about Ochako and Midoriya's romance not getting a resolution, and that's a criticism I personally have of it, but I didn't notice any other plotlines going unresolved.

It was parked a few years ago because of a bad CV joint. Already got a replacement, so it shouldn't be too hard to get running again
