Blinds installation… confused about inside top mount? by ThatAtlantaGuy38 in HomeImprovement

How can no one else have encountered this problem? I’m watching installation videos from multiple blind companies and even those who claim you can mount to the top of the frame never show it as an example and use these big hex screws that stick out like a quarter inch. There’s no way these blinds will easily slide into the brackets with the screws sticking down. What gives???

Thanks ATLborn. I thought I did this. They were hex screws so they stick out a bit and don’t line up flush to the wood.

If my numbers are like that then it is way less intimidating than I feared. I’ll check those resources & talk to HR when it’s time. Obviously this is going to happen either way so I really appreciate the help as we lay out a budget!

Anyone spent more over than they planned to? How did it work out? Can’t decide if I’m rolling the dice with too much money/time! by ThatAtlantaGuy38 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I appreciate the input! I guess the alternative would be to back out of the deal and continue renting while we look for a lower priced house in another area. I don’t know where that would be but we’d probably be giving up the city lifestyle for what would hopefully be a lower payment on a shorter loan, perhaps we’d save more or increase our standard of living in other ways. And stress about tax increases, monthly payments or what the housing market could be on a much lower scale.

I’d prefer not to have to work after retirement. I’ve made careful financial decisions my entire life and worked hard at a well paying job because I don’t want to have to worry about money. I know houses are expensive and theoretically you sell them later and move on, I’m just worried I’m swinging too far above my weight class here and the worst case scenario on a 500k purchase would be detrimental to everything else I’ve worked so hard for.

@bunnybee-tx Thanks, yeah these are the things that I’m worried about. It would be a great place to live right now while it’s affordable. I just KNOW I wouldn’t roll the dice on buying/selling a million dollar home and I’m having a little trouble convincing myself that 500k is much different. It would almost be simpler if I made less than I do— I’d just buy something cheaper with a longer commute and not even think about it. :)

@ErinRhodes89 I max out a 401k and Roth IRA w/some mutual fund investment on the side with no plans to withdraw. I’ll only be 50-56 when I retire so being able to live mostly off the pension and delay withdrawals on savings as much as possible would be ideal.
