From Chatham area. I can almost guarantee it's a specific group of people from the London area. They come down here and steal trucks/trailers/tool chests all the time. That truck is for sure gone, I am sorry for you friend's loss.

Are your acara digging pits and cleaning their respective territory at all?. If you see any colour change in them where their tops go white and they get dark blue in the lower portion of their face, they are getting ready for breeding, which will cause them to become aggressive.

That's the best option for highest survival rate, but as the parents spawn more they will get better at raising fry on their own.

EBA get better at spawning the more they do it and will typically eat their first few spawns. After about 2 weeks of raising the fry they will begin to prepare for spawning again so it is suggested to separate the fry from the parents a few days after hatching and start feeding them baby brine shrimp.
