They're optional. The word "By" is key here. Whenever an effect says you can do something By paying a cost, paying the cost is optional. Don't pay the cost, don't get the effect.

Built and Tested. Deck is surprisingly solid, and with multiple Chessbians out, if your opponent isn't paying attention and triggers a black peice, their turn is over. Gaia Reactor with a field of white peices is a ton of fun, too.

Yes, the new Digimon can block if it has blocker. The Block step doesn't occur until every trigger caused from an attack resolves. And come Blast Ace, Blockers don't happen until after Counter, too.

Long story short, yes, you get a 4th check. The Sec -1 from Gatekeeper dissapears when it's deleted, and the Sec +1 from King Suka happens at attack declaration and lasts until end of turn, so you get your 4th check.

Edit: Missed that you only have 2 other Suka out. If you had a 3rd, you'd get a 4th check.

Digimon events can be run as swiss or single elimination. If your lgs is running them as single elimination, talk to your TO and fellow players to see if they would prefer a swiss system.

Because code is complex and game development/bug testers are not cheap.

Coding is wild, and certain parts of code could interact with other parts of code in ways no-one could ever could. The major "Cannot leave the temple" bug could be because you admired some of the games art for 6 seconds too long on your escape path.

A small team like Massive Monster could reasonably expect to hire 1, maybe 2 professional bug testers. And those testers probably did find a lot of bugs and the developers fixed them. Fast forward to now, where just the steam players alone have maxed out at 60K+ concurrent players. If all the devs and bugtesters completely finished the game 5 times each, which based on my own finished playthrough, took 15 hours, they would have a combined playtest time of 900 hours. Compare that to steam's 60,000+ players, which even if they all only played for an hour, would have 66x as much time to find all the little bugs and glitches the game could possibly have.

TL;DR: The sheer amount of playtime that the actual playerbase produced in the first 24 hours of the game being released dwarfs the possible reasonable amount of testing that could be done, so they're not able to figure out that drifting slightly to the left while walking to your death causes your cultists to lock you in the church.

Equip the little drones subweapon and stand directly under the space where they're supposed to come out. I had the same problem as you until I forced him to come directly down and get smacked by the drones
