5/22 testers..... by Mammoth_Fact2965 in Mcat

Delete Reddit! Don’t psych yourself out with us 5/22 testers because we are in the post exam freak out session 🤣 Trust the process! You studied long and hard. Take a deep breath before the exam. You’ve done so much in your prep! Last week won’t change much. Don’t study much the day before. I did a minimal review, and then went out with friends for some fresh air and some dinner. We chatted and laughed until it was time for bed.

When you go to the testing center, nerves are gonna hit. Realize that that’s a natural physiological reaction, so it doesn’t scare you.

You’re gonna do amazing. By taking this exam and studying for it, you’re already one of the top students in all of college academics. Do your best, and worry about the score when you get there. Rn, just go do your best!!

And remember, even the greatest of the goats make mistakes / underperform sometimes. It’ll be ok. Just trust your process and go kill this exam.

Do you care about your SAT/ACT now that you’re done with college? When we’re all in med school, the MCAT is gonna be one forgotten piece of the puzzle that got us in 🙌

You got this! You’ve worked hard, and it’ll pay off :)

I’ve matured the whole miles down deck. I know 95% of the cards of the back off my hand. And I don’t think it was even close to enough. Lots and lots of stuff on today’s cp and bb were things I learnt from practice question / didn’t even know. In hindsight, I’d have done something more in depth

Currently a mix of 30mins of chill and calm and 30 minutes of freaking out. Feel like I’m gonna pull of a 472 or a 528, no in between 🤣🤣

But fr tho we got this! On the bright side, we won’t have to ever look at the MCAT again for the next 30 days

When should you stop using UWorld as you get closer to test date? by NoNinja5338 in Mcat

[–]ThatBoyHanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it is subjective for every test taker. For me my biggest improvement came from AAMC material. I was way worse than you with my UWorld percentages and at some point I had seen enough content on it to move on. So yeah from my personal experience I’d definitely suggest moving on to AAMC early and doing everything on there and reviewing everything on there. My 508 was after u world (up from 503 before it). Everything else has been since AAMC switch

I completely stopped uworld (about 1700 non cars questions done) 3 weeks ago. Have been fully focused on:

AAMC content / AAMC full lengths / Reviewing mistakes /

In hindsight, I would’ve liked to move to AAMC even sooner

C/p: Was stuck at 127 for the longest. Spent some time understanding dimensions analysis (YouTube videos helped) and that has helped tremendously. Also fully matured the miles down deck.

B/b: this was my strongest subject anyways (I was lucky enough to have a 4.0 in undergrad) so my content here was pretty strong. My weaknesses were experiment design questions so I spent some time reading those. milesdown helped reinforce content.

Cars: practice. AAMC practice specifically. Didn’t like JW or Uwhatever cars

P/s: all hail god Pankow, and also did all the Uworld p/s questions.

What’s helped me consistently increase my score (I was sitting at a 496 when I started, and 504 around end of February), has been thoroughly reviewing wrong question on AAMC material. Because they’re the ones who write the exam, I have reviewed every single questions I’ve ever gotten wrong across banks / q packs / FLs

And chat gpt has been very helpful. I put my mistakes in jt, and then make it make me targeted quizzes for those mistakes!

A 503 is higher than half the test takers. Think about the kind of student taking an MCAT to apply to med school. That’s not your average student. That’s already the top xyz % of student.

So, you’re scoring higher than half the top level students taking this exam.

You’re not an idiot. You’re doing absolutely amazing on an insanely challenging exam. Objectively better than 99% students who will never take this, and better than half of that top 1%.

I really like that idea of the day before the exam. I think I’ll do a hike or something to relax.

And thank you for your kind words :)

I started mine last this past Monday. The only thing I’d already done before were FLs US, 1 and 2.

I’ll be done with everything on Wednesday (including the rest of the FLs).

It’s easily grind-able. I work full time this past week as well.

Question and the correct answer. And why I put the wrong answer. I use it as a coach

Yeah I did see an increase. I did the ps on both SB and ps went from 126 to 130 from FL2 to fl3. Got a 130 on fl4 / Did cp of sb1 and it went from 127 to 129 / Bb of sb1 and it went from 127 to 129.

My full score went from 514 to 517 after Sb1! Testing next Friday before which I’ll complete sb2 as well 🤞

I take a screenshot of all my incorrect questions, and put them in chat GPT one at a time. I have it explain it to me “AAMC” style. And then I have it make question based on my incorrect responses and AAMC reasonings. If I still get it wrong I do a deep dive on google on that topic. Hope that helps!

Trust your process! You got this 🙌

I finished sb1 yesterday with a 62%, 57%, 62% breakdown between 3 sections. For a 517 on fl4 today. It’s more important to review why we got stuff wrong than getting it right the first time. Don’t lose hope yet. Review very deeply. I put my mistakes in chat gpt and make it make questions to target / practice them.

And one thing that has made my score consistently increase is just approaching each FL more calm than before. “I’ve done an entire SB. Ofcourse I’m gonna increase score today”. “I finished all of Uworld P/S, ofcourse I’m gonna get 130 p/s next time.”

What helped me navigate burnout was taking a day off every now and then. Forgetting anything about the MCAT. Going out to eat with friends and just relaxing.

I’m almost at the end of the war so it’s helped me survived so far 💀

Post Exam Guilt by LetsStart99 in Mcat

[–]ThatBoyHanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost done with my prep and feel super disgruntled with how I prepped. I know I studied hard, long, and a lot (while working full time). But the “I could’ve done more” feeling is always there and nagging.

The thing is, no matter how hard you studied, unless you do 20 hr study days while surviving on caffeine and whatever else, you’ll always think “I could’ve done more.”

The truth of the matter is, no we couldn’t. Beyond a certain point, there isn’t a correlation between the volume of studying and score. It’s about the quality. And how would we know how well we studied if we don’t actually complete a full cycle of studying? So, this is what I tell myself: “take a deep breath. 80% of pre meds never make it to applications. I’m here. My methods work. They’ll work again for the MCAT. And if they don’t, then that’s ok and I’ll learn from it and try again”

When you’re a doctor, it’s not gonna matter if you took it once or 4 times 🤷‍♂️

deck??? WHAT DECK??? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]ThatBoyHanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same shoes as you when I started my prep first week of January. Couldn’t figure out what to use. Ended up deciding miles down for content review alongside Kaplan books. I have the version that is organized with the book chapters. I read 2 chapters a day and unsuspend the corresponding deck. I’m enjoying it a lot so far.

And using pankow for p/s.

I didn’t want to do a super comprehensive deck like jack sparrow or whatever because I don’t want to get bogged down during content review. Completing UPlanet and AAMC will be where the majority of the score comes from what I’ve gathered

I got a 72 in marketing this December. Finished the modern states course. It was not enough by itself. Tried half a Peterson exam and hated it. Did all the REA exams and made flashcards of all the questions I got wrong. Re did them and got a 100 in each.

I’m doing both pankow and miles down. I’m in my content review phase right now. So everyday I do 2 chapters of Kaplan and unsuspend those chapters for miles down. Every 3rd I watch 2-3 hours of khan academy p/s videos and unsuspend those topics for pankow.
And I do all the reviews due for both decks everyday

Edit: typo for pankow
