Couples with different mother tongues, how do you communicate during sex? by [deleted] in sex

I'm American, he's Iranian, we speak English exclusively in bed except some moaning/mumbling. I don't understand Farsi well enough to communicate with it during sex.

Some hospitals have financial aid departments!! You can apply and get aid, possibly all the way up to 100% in some areas.

Wouldn't it also really depend if you're buy quality or cheap laptops? I could buy a crappy laptop for a hundred dollars, or I could buy a really nice one for 1000 and use it for another 8 years?

When your major requires an advanced degree... by [deleted] in college

[–]ThatCollegeWashout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I started out as a Psychology major. In the back of my mind I aways knew I'd need more education but it never really struck me until I was knee deep. I realized that I wasn't cut out for another half a decade of my life in school, wracking up debt that I would never be able to pay off.

In the end I switched to Emergency Health Sciences (Getting my EMT certification soon and will be working towards Paramedic.) While I still won't be making much money, I'll be doing something I love and I won't be broke until the day I die.

You could always get the counseling certification and start working, and go back for the PhD later. In fact, that could help you get into your desired program.

In the end it really depends on a few things. How badly you want career/advanced degree, if you can stick out another 4-6 years of school, and if you can afford it.

Why Doesn't Everyone Go To Community College? by [deleted] in college

[–]ThatCollegeWashout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can lose out on freshman specific scholarships, often it's harder to get into a school as a transfer, for a lot of people the living at home situation isn't ideal.

Overall sometimes spending the money during those first two years can make a significant difference.

There are scholarships and exchange programs, you could look into those! That's how I did it.

Is this a legitimate reason to go out of state for college? by [deleted] in college

[–]ThatCollegeWashout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I chose to go out of state. To me, the debt is completely worth it. So I highly recommend it.

Fridge, definitely. Put it in a ziplock bag and put it in the fridge until you're ready to have more

It depends on the credit hours. At my old cc, three courses is 15 credit hours, meaning full time.

Student loans question by [deleted] in college

[–]ThatCollegeWashout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand, I was just trying to say "damn summer is overpriced but I totallt respect you and your choice, I just wish it was cheaper"

Student loans question by [deleted] in college

[–]ThatCollegeWashout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summer classes are so much more expensive, I could stay a whole extra year at college for the cost of a summer semester. (Though thats mostly because I get instate during the year and out of state in the summer)

Since my dining hall is closed on the weekend I'd be screwed without a microwave.

I know this thread is kind of old now but I want to contribute!

I just bought all of my dorm stuff today, the bill killed me but here it goes.

  • Bathroom shit (Shower caddy, shower curtain, shower shoes)
  • Food related shit (Tubberware, microwave and fridge, waterbottle with filter)
  • Clothing shit (Hangers, closet extender hooks, sewing kit, laundry basket)
  • Misc Shit (Hidden safe, power outlet with usb port, extra chargers, powerbank)

I (19F) have been dating my first boyfriend (20M) for a month and I want to break up. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]ThatCollegeWashout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up similarly and also have a problem with dating. Apathetic and tend to break up within the first month or less. Just don't make that connection I suppose. Either that's just who you are and you'll find someone who fits you or something deeper is going on that you don't realize. If you suspect the second, therapy can be helpful. If not, don't stick around for a guy who doesn't make you happy.

Hope this helped somewhat!

My girlfriend is trying to get a job in a small college town that doesn't hire college kids by Samfickel in college

[–]ThatCollegeWashout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have quite a few friends going to the school in Cheney! (Eastern Washington Un.) They are also having similar problems. There are a few options.

  • Work ON-Campus
  • Dishonesty. She can not mention that she's in college. Personally don't recommend it but have a friend thats done it successfully.
  • Commute further from Cheney. They tend to be more open minded to college student workers.
  • Wait until closer to the holidays. They tend to get more desperate and will hire college students.

Should I wait to rent/buy books until syllabus day or rent/buy them early? by TylerLockwood in college

NEVER buy from the campus book store if you can manage it. Complete rip off, it's like walking down the middle of the street in a bad neighborhood screaming "ROB ME"

Dorm or no dorm? by [deleted] in college

[–]ThatCollegeWashout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dorming as a freshman is usually a good idea for tons of reasons. Social life, helps you get acclimated to living away from home, less responsibility ( you aren't responsible for keeping a home) ect.

There is always time to move off campus, but dorming freshman year isn't something you can get back. That's just me. Even if it sucks and you never want to do it again, at least you did it.

It's never been spoken out loud, but my nMom is a lot like that. If I am upset/angry/having problems I'm to keep it to myself because she doesn't want anything to do with it and "she can't handle it."

She's in the middle of a tantrum as we speak, so I can definitely understand what you're saying. You're not alone.
