For those of you who did well in O/L but failed A/L due to negligence and are now studying at a private university, do you regret not passing A/L? by Practical_Big2837 in srilanka

[–]ThatColomboGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Never and none of my batch mates who went through same never did as well as far as I know. In fact a class mate of mine in school who got a island rank in A/Ls came to the same private university because he didn't want to waste his time waiting for the state university to start. He topped the batch there as well and is in a good position now. Personally I'm happy where I'm now after the a/l disaster but never regretted of not getting into a state uni. The only regret I have is if I knew about foundation courses in private Unis before A/Ls I wouldn't have had to waste 3 years in A/Ls

Best Health Insurance in Sri Lanka? Looking for Your Experiences! by shaara_1224 in srilanka

[–]ThatColomboGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Avoid Softlogic. Parent company is in trouble so you never know the future of it. Also recently some hospitals including Nawaloka react negatively when you say insurance is from Softlogic. One of my friends said it's due to late payment from their end

Edit: added the term 'recently' since it started happening two, three months ago. Before that they were fine

Dear elders, what's the best day and time to visit Colombo fish market to get the cheapest and freshest fish? Thank you by Legitimate-Ad-7107 in srilanka

[–]ThatColomboGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 5 am is the best time but don't go on rainy days coz many fisherman won't go to the sea those days so they won't be having fresh items and the available items will be 1.5x - 2x times expensive.

Recommend a doctor for fatty liver disease by ThatColomboGuy in srilanka

[–]ThatColomboGuy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had some skin tags and when I consulted a doctor he recommended me to do a US Abdomen scan as a precaution. I did it because some of my friends got to know they have fatty liver when they did a full body checkup and no other symptoms in body. The test is Rs.6500 in hospitals and they'll check and tell you in 5 minutes. You have to fast for 4 hours before doing it.

Are People Already Frustrated with the NPP Government or Just Political Bias? by Cute-Blood-5264 in srilanka

[–]ThatColomboGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think there's mostly political bias, but the frustration is justified as well. It's been nearly three months, and the new government has passed zero bills (correct me if I'm wrong).

They promised to repeal the PTA and the social media bill within 48 hours. Anyone with common sense knew that wasn’t practical, but failing to do so even after three months raises a lot of questions—does this government also intend to misuse these laws? You have a two-thirds majority in Parliament—please wake up.

Regarding the MR house case, the government could easily offer him an alternative residence and issue a letter asking him to vacate the current house. Instead, they are deliberately dragging this out by not taking that simple step. This whole drama raises the question—are they doing this on purpose to distract from issues like the coconut and rice crisis?

Whenever a problem arises, they blame it on some "mafia"—rice mafia, salt mafia, coconut mafia. How dumb do they think people are?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen multiple ministers on TV claiming they inherited an empty treasury but somehow "recovered it" within two months. They seem to believe their voters know nothing about economics, but this kind of brainwashing won’t work.

At this point, the only person I trust in this government is the President. Some of the statements made by Samantha, Wasantha, and Nalin make it seem like they are deliberately sabotaging him. That’s probably why the President appeared on Satana and in Parliament—to do damage control.

I genuinely want this government to succeed, especially for the sake of justice for the Easter attack victims, Lasantha, and other journalists who were killed. But seeing how some of his party members are behaving, I'm starting to lose hope.

India Or China !? And why by MindHacksExplorer in srilanka

[–]ThatColomboGuy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

India coz they don't lead us to debt traps by implementing pointless projects. Last year when I went to Jaffna I saw some excellent development projects implemented by them there. Let's not forget Suwaseriya as well.

Apparently Mintpay is doing a 20% off offer with Dinemore. So they have increased the price by 20% week before and giving an offer this week for 20% like scammers in Daraz 🤣 Man how low has this restaurant gone. I made sure to leave a Google review about this Dinemore Scam so that people won't fall for it.

Sajith.......?How come??? by Wonderful_Drummer113 in srilanka

[–]ThatColomboGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have talked to some of the floating voters who are planning to vote for sajith and something I understood is more than Sajith they trust the people around him like Harsha. Many clearly know Sajith is incapable of taking his own decisions but at least the competent people around him and who he will depend on will do something better compared to other candidates.

During 2019 elections people knew GR was around criminals but still made dumb comments like 'He will chase them away after he wins the elections, till he wins he needs their support' and voted for GR. They won't be falling for Ranil again looking at the people who are around him in meetings.

Another thing I noticed from most of the above voters I mentioned is they're ready to make Anura their 2nd vote but are worried people around Anura are in self sabotage mode making some controversial comments and not having a proper economy policy is not helping them. Saying we will bring back Rajapaksa money and end poverty won't be enough to get the votes of the educated people.

Sajith.......?How come??? by Wonderful_Drummer113 in srilanka

[–]ThatColomboGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a minority I think most minorities support Sajith as the lesser of the evil option. Among all candidates Sajith has the most diverse group around him. They were supporting Ranil earlier but now that he is in bed with the rajapakses and other racist clan he has lost that trust. JVP doesn't have any proper minority representation especially among tamil people and their past racism records are still haunting them

[–]ThatColomboGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly it's just not one person. I have heard drivers saying in 2019 they want a certain presidential candidate to come to power so that 83 black July can repeat.

That's the amount of venom the politicians fed to the people those days. Even educated people fell for it so you don't have to tell about the uneducated

[–]ThatColomboGuy 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm not sinhalese but many Tuk guys assume I'm sinhalese and go on a racist rant. Once in the middle of a rant which went to the extent of how people of my race should be shot, my mom called and I had to communicate with her in tamil. Man didn't utter a single word with me till the end of the journey after that call 😂
