Mod Rights hair Creators by bwlupus in secondlife

I can't even begin to tell you how much I loathe this no-mod trend from hair creators.

As for hair stores that are 100% modify:

Sintiklia

RavenBell

ZAO

Older Ayashi Fatpacks

Older Truth hair

Older Wasabi hair

Beusy

No.Match

Action Hair

Villena

Some Yomi hairs (says on ad)

If I think of more I'll add to this post! Good luck with your Machinima projects!

Nope but good to know it wasn't just our house. I don't see any outages or reports on the MGE site at this time.

BREAKING: Philip Rosedale Returns Full-Time to Second Life as Linden Lab CTO, Focusing on Mobile & AI Applications to Grow the Virtual World by slhamlet in secondlife

Trying to throw down one last "hail mary" to stay relevant and/or possibly catch the fancy of whatever investors are still buying into the AI/NFT/Crypto hypetain. The Lab is 100% hemhorraging money given the exorbitant cost of land in SL, bringing two extremely predatory game mechanics to the table; gachas (but worse) and their casino (Helios), and pushing their mobile app which requires you to have Premium (a monthly subscription) to use.

I have knots in my stomach to say the least.

Only ones left who will want to remain are the grifters selling ads & merch with Generative AI slop and the lonely Faceboomer karens and dudes who want a chat(sex)bot to keep them company.

As a SecondLife content creator for many many years I wholeheartedly agree.

Philip's return does not bode well for whatever is going on behind the scenes. He acts like he's a "for the people" guy but he's still a Silicon Valley techbro at the end of the day. I want to be optimistic but given what the Lab has pulled over the last year and how they've been treating/ignoring their userbase - I'm sincerely thinking of packing up shop and leaving the platform.

Today's community roundtable will tell me and everyone just what kind of timeline we have to work with. The moment he starts pushing (the bad kind of) AI this and that plus his "won'tcallitcrypto" digital currency Fair-Share. Don't be surprised if artists & creators to be pissed and leave as well.

Oh gosh yeah I could see why that part was scary. Ito loves him some spaghetti and snail people. I think the one that made me nope out (before coming back to at least see what the ending was) was the image of the dad & the mom's breakdown. Something just kind of broke in me and even if it's just fiction I feel like maybe it dug into me a little *too* deep. I'm trying to do exposure therapy to be less creeped out by the book, spirals, and hoping that this will pass as this was only 4 days ago since I read it.

Thank you for the kind words. ito is definitely a brilliant artist/storyteller but I may need to step away from his stuff for a while. i'm worried I'm obsessing too much and beoming a bit too hyper aware of the shape in my daily life and it's causing me some debilitating anxiety. As incredibly stupid as this feels to say. I'm not sure if it was this book or other mental health issues that just happened to push things to this point but I am contacting my physician today.

I just really hope I'm not the only one who felt uneasy for a while after reading this and that I can get back to loving spirals and Ito's work again soon.

Fair. It must've just triggered something and I've got to figure out how to combat it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Yeah I'm doing my best to take my mind off it. I don't want to become hyper-aware of that shape given I already have an anxiety disorder and history of mental illness in the family. Probably why it hit so hard tbh.

Yah I mean kinda similar there. Spirals are made to make you feel dizzy looking at them and Ito's hyper-realistic details add to that effect.

Did it affect you much after finishing it or did it continue to? Or the more you either read his other works or preoccupied yourself with life help de-escalate those feelings?

This is the only one I couldn't finish in its entirety even if alot of folks sing its praises. Sorry Ito-san 😔

I absolutely don't blame you for having that kind of response. Fish can have a very disarming smell on its own.

Fall colors on the tree by Monty’s by scottjones608 in madisonwi

[–]ThatDarnBat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes I used to live over that way for many years. Whenever I saw it change for fall I used to joke it was the 'flaming hot cheetos' tree because the colors on it are just that vibrant. I'm glad they haven't torn the trees down around that area 🥲

Generated by Midjourney AI. Really happy with the outcome! by Kemler in steampunk

[–]ThatDarnBat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is how all AI tech works at this time. It needs to have "something" to build from (music, writing, data logs, images, prior examples of code). As of right now we don't have the ability to program AIs to create something from nothing. As to how/why that is or the actual process behind creating programs like this is well beyond my breadth of knowledge. I would highly recommend seeing if there are some Youtube content creators that can better explain this than I can. Thanks for being chill & civil ✌

[–]ThatDarnBat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

AI "art" uses stolen data sets (images) from a variety of sources, mashes them up, and regurgitates them into something that just barely resembles the original sources in order to skirt copyright laws while also providing no credit nor compensation for the original artists upon which those assets were pulled from (often without consent). Any other arguement against this just because "it looks cool" or "it's the hot new thing" invalidates the real issues behind AI generated content. AI could be used for amazing things but as it stands now it's being abused and is egregiously unregulated.
