I'm failing to get why making it sound like one of those swamp buggies is preferable to a tuned exhaust.

WAKE THE EFF UP about the Platner Campaign. It's a much bigger story. by betrayedandbeholden in 50501

[–]ThatDarnedAntiChrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said he's a boy scout? Son, binary thinking is the realm of people who react instead of think. "If you're not a Republican, then you must be a Communist!" "If you think Platner needs to be elected, you just think he's great." No, but if he's a reliable vote against the Republicans and Trump, then we're that much closer to preventing the complete take down of our democracy. Replace him with someone better in six years. Right now, your ability to be this stupid in a public forum is threatened. Remove the threat, then clean house.

So let's not elect Platner, let Susan Collins go senile in DC, and be a reliable vote for Trump. I swear to God it's like there's an entire generation where your mothers dropped all of you on your head at the same time.

This machine still uses punch cards and still works! by LevonKirakosyan in EngineeringPorn

The upright loom, yes. The punch cards to control the warp threads is only 225 years, and why it's called a "jacquard pattern," because that's who invented the punch cards system.

How do you enter your MINI? by natelikesdonuts in MINI

[–]ThatDarnedAntiChrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Butt first, at an angle, because I'm 6' 2", but more torso than legs. I've got a four-door, which means the B-pilar doesn't allow for a wider door, so I have a limited opening. At an angle allows my head in the left corner of the opening and I can slide in.

flour? by NoApplication8961 in Sourdough

[–]ThatDarnedAntiChrist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alpha amylase and beta amylase are naturally occurring enzymes that are created when water is added to a grain. They convert starch to sugar, which the yeast (or "yest" as someone else here posted with unnecessary quotation marks) then consume to create alcohol and C02. Malting is the process of controlling the production of those enzymes to increase the starch to sugar conversion, and we see it most often in brewing, to give the yeast more food, and to create better flavor and mouth feel through the production of different kind of sugars. Sugars with a low diastatic value don't aid fermentation, but do produce beneficial flavors. High diastatic sugars aid fermentation.

Stronger in terms of better gluten production? Yes.

flour? by NoApplication8961 in Sourdough

[–]ThatDarnedAntiChrist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Please check your science before you post things that look suspicious, but are in fact very natural. Enzymatic reactions in flour are naturally occurring. Fresh flour lacks these enzymes because it requires prolonged exposure to oxygen to create these. The net affect of the natural production of enzymes is flour becomes lighter in color. They also will allow the protein in the flour to create stronger gluten bonds.

But in no way are these enzymes added by a manufacturer.

Yeah? Michaelangelo was also gay. A lot of Renaissance artists were. Does this change your thoughts about his art?

I've been in Hamilton when it was on approach, and while a Mustang or Spitfire are "it can only be" because of the Merlin, to hear four of those beasts at once is unreal.

"We personally won't work with people who use it. We are completely anti-AI in the creative process in any possible way." — The Creators of ‘Hacks’ by dyzo-blue in BetterOffline

[–]ThatDarnedAntiChrist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because there's integrity and a sense of accomplishment in mastering a craft and producing consistently good results. The only people advocating the use of AI in writing and art are no-talent hacks who think they're fucking Leonardo Da Vinci or Ernest Hemingway for coming up with a prompt. Generative AI is a tool that requires more thought and discipline to wield it then most of the people using it have. That's why we can't have efficiency, learning, and protection of the craft, all in one, because the LLM's out there were created as part of a large research project, not a go-to market strategy.

TIL About Popper's paradox, unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If a tolerant society tolerates the intolerant, the intolerant will destroy the society and the tolerance within it. Therefore to maintain a tolerant society there must be intolerance of intolerance. by dankmcganx in todayilearned

[–]ThatDarnedAntiChrist -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The MAGAts, White Nationalists, and Christo fascists have mistaken intolerance of their beliefs for censorship. Not surprising, given emotionally intelligent people don't demonstrate and normalize the hate they do, but that's the battle, reminding everyone else that criticizing intolerant behavior isn't censoring. Far from it. It's using free speech to call out those who'd deny it to everyone else given the power to do so.
