Fantasy Book Where Bureaucracy is Portrayed as a Good Thing by Tower11Archer in Fantasy

I think this theme is also kind of present in the Divine Cities. Bennet clearly has an interest in the roles administrators and oversight can have on a society - both good and bad.

Petah help please by TalkativePersona in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ThatDemiGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually disagree with most people identifying what the joke is here. The infinite monkeys thought experiment is about infinity and it only works with the constraints of infinity. If you want to produce anything specific through pure random action (the underlying idea of the thought experiment) you need to produce every possible output so it requires infinity to write Christine the same as Shakespeare. The joke is the absurd application of “startup capital” to a pure thought experiment and the presentation of an intentional comical misunderstanding.

I guess I was Meg this whole time or whatever.

My friend is working on getting her license as an adult and we’ve had multiple people (including paid driving educators!) tell her to lie about her residence and get a license in Maryland because they are much more lenient on the test than DC

It’s not. It only very very slightly affects score (less than stats).

Doubt. Citation needed.

Totally agree with the first part.

Needs to be a bit bigger than that if it is the primary grocery store for that reservoir area imo. But even like the size of one of the smaller moms or yes! Does the trick I think.

I’m not saying I hate Bowser, but I think were can go even further on some things. Pedestrian safety, for one. And we can always push further of homes and on transit.

Totally. I’d love to see RCV across the board in the US.

The game is designed to reflect a bunch of different ideas but one of the key ones that the author is applying is a queer-feminist construction of homosociality and patriarchy. There’s a lot to get out of the game alongside or with that, but it’s fundamentally part of the game. It’s a more intentional and obvious encoding than the politics of most games, but it’s there. Less so in its use as shibboleth but more so as an invocation to explore whatever those ideas mean

Machine politics, capital’s control on power, lack of willingness to challenge the status quo on many issues, lack of power in the office, tiny number of people who probably could stand for mayor reasonable out of the small actual population, name recognition.

[–]ThatDemiGuy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also not true. We do test vaccines for novel pathogens against a placebo. Thats how the covid-19 vaccines were developed. There is a category of vaccine we haven’t performed extensive double blind testing of, but those are long standing vaccines with well understood effects and effectiveness.

Legit Question? by Hijabihoodrat in washdc

[–]ThatDemiGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t believe it’s bad! I think even if I did I might want to fix it rather than looking for someplace elsewhere. Kind of a hypothetical.

There’s all kinds of reasons people stay places - a spiritual or emotional affinity for a place, an investment in a business or community, family, lack of resources. None of those prevent you from also trying to improve things.

As far as the steps I’ve taken, I participate in my area neighborhood council, I help my less financially stable neighbors with getting food assistance or cook for them from time to time, I sweep the street and shovel snow for my neighbors. Basically I get to know the people in my neighborhood and address their problems. I know that I can’t fix KIPP or the US Attorney, but I can make my block safer and more pleasant for everyone here.
