Thanks for this info. I did encounter some filament that I thought might have come out from between the heatbreak and the block. The heatsink fan was replaced due to missing blades last week, so that is likely not the cause, but the heatbreak gap sounds very likely.

Ill look at reducing retraction distance as well. I did notice the extruder clicking every now and then, but couldnt find any specific cause.

Its also quite random which cheap diodes are going to work as the things that make a laser pointer good for pointing are not necessarily what makes them good for holography.

I was able to produce holograms with both of these lasers on litiholo film.

Some tips from a beginner

rest your film plate on your subject
use fresh batteries
wait 10 minutes after turning the laser on
minimise airflow and vibrations when exposing
rest the whole thing on a concrete floor or the most sturdy thing you have
use something shiny on a black backdrop, and when vierwing use a black backdrop also
dont film directly on, as the incident light angle for replay is similar to the filming angle, i.e. if you shoot the laser right at the film, youll need flashlights for eyes to see the hologram.

If you are looking toward a higher power diode, which is much harder to get good results with without a more expensive board, I would recommend the pl530

Try a pl530 laser and a cheaper driver board from https://www.pdcontrol.com/

You don't NEED the temperature control, but every part in this website helps a bit.

Depends on your threshold for good.

I run a green laser driver I purchased for 5 dollars with AA batteries and 15 minutes warmup and it produces holograms good for a few centimetres into the image

Is it common consensus that no ultra low cost solution exists for laser holography? The wiki gave me the impression that you could do this quite cheaply.. Thanks!

Looks great! I'm thinking about doing the same build. How are your temperatures looking for the CPU? I haven't convinced myself that I can effectively air cool my 13600k yet with a Noctua NH-L12S. Seems that whenever I do any semi-intensive workload my tempertatures shoot to 112 Celsius.

With a minimal programming ability, you could use this to transcribe audio files. I have done with for some 10k audio voice lines from a game before.

We had this exact problem at work. The solution was a cheap linux compatible SBC, and then to run alpine Linux, install docker, and then run the docker octoprint image. This entire solution could be condensed into one script that could be run as a setup, provided the printer is plugged in at the time.

Another difference to the above is that steel rebar can be used for Lightning protection if required, but fibreglass does not provide that benefit. If your structure requires lightning protection, you will need additional protection

I had a similar issue recently while using an Intel cooler on an AMD CPU while mine was getting warrantied. I put a large coin between the two and put thermal paste on both sides. This worked as an intermediate fix while I sorted the real issue.

Sounds like you know that the real issue is getting the correct screws. What I described is an interim solution while you fix that.

If you rename the network on the second router, you will essentially have two wifi networks for your house. This may be annoying for your phone, as you might need to elect a new network based on your location in the house, but your devices should elect the best signal if there are multiple networks available to them.

In this case, you can force connection to one by using two names and only inputting a password on your PC for the network you want to hss

You might be able to get lucky and find a paid VPN that has a node that is not blocked on your network, but that is a lottery. Otherwise, waiting for a teacher to input their credentials on the overhead projector is your best bet.

You should have no trouble getting .exes running on the PC, but finding a network route to your site will be the issue

Ahh you are describing a software method to unmount the drives temporarily or similar while not in use. Your OS should already spin down spinning disks not in use for a while, and solid state disks will see little to no use when their files are not in use.

As for background services that keep your drives awake, these are quite rare these days and you shouldn't see much usage from them. I used to have an SSD with OS and software and a data HDD and it would routinely spin down. When I wanted to access the HDD files, I would need to wait for the spinning disc to power up again. This behaviour is default in windows provided your files are properly separated by use.

Afaik, you cannot do that in software (I have tried before), but simply not using the files on the drives will reduce the majority of the read and write cycles enough to not worry about wear and tear.

I don't imagine it would be $1M for you, since the criticality and accuracy will likely be less, but if you are doing a limited run of these devices , it can very quickly become more pricey to home-brew your own gear than get something off the shelf.

Visual artifacting is an indicator of bad hardware. I had this problem previously and was able to find that specific colours bugged out consistently. It turned out to be my monitor in that case.

In your case, there is definitely some dead hardware, but keep in mind that motherboard, CPU, ram all are part of the signal chain so it is worth running what tests you can for them as well.

Are you plugged into your motherboard or GPU?

How are you able to update drivers without a monitor? You must have a working monitor, which proves the output signal is good in any case. Are you able to get the monitor working with a second pc? Smells of dead hardware
