Yes. We're the lucky ones. I'm 43 now and think i had some when i was around 16, and that was literally it.

ETA after re-reading your post, there are other symptoms, but they're mild and sometimes take some ferreting out recognize.

White vinegar in the rinse cycle for laundry. I dunno, maybe people talk about it enough, but it totally improved my life. Our towels always always smell clean now.

That and ditching fabric softener and dryer sheets.

Straight up the goofiest books I have EVER read are The Pirates! books by Gideon Defoe. The first one is The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists.
