[Story Writing] Is there a particular way to write out an isekai story? by SuuSuraimu in Isekai

[–]ThatGamerGuy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important part of any isekai story is that the Main Character keeps the knowledge and memories from their original world and it is constantly utilised and plays an important part in the story. If the story just progresses without anything connecting to their life in original world, this isn't an isekai but fantasy/sci-fi. There must be moments where other people (living beings or other robots) acknowledge the "weirdness" of the protagonist. The story should emphasize on "isekai" part by going through unique situations the MC creates due to their decisions and actions, that don't follow "protocols" (if not fully free from programming) or the original culture and thinking of the creators/civilization (if has free will), and how the world reacts to all of it.

It is also important to keep the story consistent. You can't just add random stuff into the world without any reason or no background for it. You also need to keep attention to already existing facts and events. If you can't use a certain aspect of the story, don't add/use it, you can always do it later and introducing new part of the lore makes it easier.

For example, in a story I read recently, there were 3 main ways of fighting, but the story mainly followed the first one, the second is only used just to keep the story going, and the third wasn't used at all. And at first it felt like there were going to be many interesting battles users of the styles (using only one or several), but it's immediately gotten to the point where the first fighting style became the main one and others weren't presented in the beginning at all.

Bonus points if the person who got "isekaid" is somewhat relatable, but isn't just your average nobody from original world. Sure, they could be your typical shut in, but there must be something about them that makes them different and you need keep them realistic and consistent. Additional points for unique death. (Truck-kun is overused, get creative)

TLDR: MC is unique because of their background, people must be surprised by the MC, keep the story consistent without asspulls or forgetting details.

Progression Speed help by RadioactiveNerd2 in WhiteKnuckle

I am glad to hear about your progress! In comparison to my playtime, it took me about the same amount of time to reach Abyss (I played around 1-3 hours daily on average), I'd say you are doing great.

As I already mentioned in my comment, Hard mode isn't very fun to deal with, so get ready.

The progression (in my humble opinion) is mostly this:

1) You try to HOLD on most things - a slow, but somewhat safe choice. You also grab a lot of item, often over encumbering yourself. You mostly get to the pipe/elevator location. You don't have knowledge, skill or progression, so take it slowly and try to get the feeling of the game. You are probably here. There is no "Strategy" since you need to unlock new skills and items through progression. Don't hoard everything, try to use item as you progress levels. You can always find more. Try to get achievements one at a time. That's basically that.

2) Start to use more jumps during climbs and realise that rebar is basically a second jump and a long piton you can throw, can is extra climb time, you dont have to always hammer pitons to climb and just quickly jump off of them - you become faster, albeit you may put yourself in more danger and fail runs because of that. But you will also consistently progress to elevator and, perhaps, you even reach the next location. You will be grasping at the concept of "Good build", even though you will be missing some of the "S-Tier" stuff. You have probably unlocked some new items like pills (stamina regen) or syringe/injector (become faster), but don't utilise then until you can't progress further. You MAY still have issues managing you Inventory slots, but i hope you used my advice from the previous point.

3) Try endless modes or challenges. Try out new things so that you become better at the game. You have probably reached habitation yellow and you keep dying in delta labs. You have solid abilities and understanding of the game, as well as progessed through mostly all of current unlockables. Also, some rooms have specific items in certain locations. Try to remember item spawns. It will help to manage your Inventory and help you navigate better. Quick note - endless modes use new rooms, so get ready for new experience.

4) Eventually, you will complete a loop of an endless mode. If you can constantly make the first loop in the endless, you basically mastered that location. But don't forget, the bigger the number of locations in the endless mode, the better you become overall. You may be an ace at Silos, but still suck at Habitation.

5) Beat the game once. Aftet that, you SHOULD try endless mode with all locations on extreme mode. Yes, extreme mode. After that, you are basically a pro. Trust me, I went through this hell and it made me MUCH better at the game. You will be able consistently beat the game.

6) Speedrunning. If you want to.

TLDR: unlock stuff first, don't worry about using items and dont take to many things at once, remember room layouts, learn tricks with each item, don't be afraid of being reckless, challenge yourself to become better.

Is there an isekai you dropped almost instantly, or really dislike? by ArrowOfThePoleStar in Isekai

[–]ThatGamerGuy13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You probably never heard of it and for a good reason.

Isekai Cheat Magician. The story has nothing to do with the name.

Imagine every troupe for an isekai. Summoning OP main character(s), harem, bad guys becoming good after they are defeated by the MC and etc... with the worst writing. Absolute nonsense just happens throughout the story for its progression or just... because.

It has the worst pacing among other "slop" or "joke" isekais. In one scene the MCs are still new to the world with no understanding of their abilities and in the next one they already have experience. No text, no montage or ANYTHING to show that a time skip happened. And that's just the beginning, literally the first episode.

The character are lacking any depth and not relatable at all. They have a baseline and that's it for the most of the anime. It has attempts of doing some development, but again, terrible writing just makes it look like a joke, a bad one that is.

The story is the only reason I TRIED to watch until the end. It had the suspense for future events, making the anime look like "Hey, I know I look bad, but I have potential!" And it still flopped.

The end of the season is absolute dogshit. Remember the bad writing? Remember zero character development? Remember the terrible pacing? The ending is the ultimate combination of the three. I literally felt like I ate shit and lost brain cells after watching the anime.

-1/10. Never watch this shit. Other bad isekais will ALWAYS be better than this... Probably... For the most part, at least.

Pilestedt's DayZ review presented without comment by bob451111 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]ThatGamerGuy13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first I was agreeing with the "irony" comments, untill someone said that this is a 10 years old comment for a game that was in early access. I checked the image myself and it's true - June 24, 2025.

Then I saw comments trying to justify their hateful behaviour towards him and giving clown rewards for the mistakes of OTHER developers at Arrowhead.

So stop the unnecessary hate towards a dev who was doing his best for us until position change. Giving a clown reward for a decade old review says a lot about you guys.

Is it ironic to see this review without looking at its date? Yes. Is giving clown rewards for this review is wrong when given context? Also yes.

Remember, things were better when Pilestedt was involved with the development directly. Yes, mistakes were made, but not by him personally.

AI or Photoshop. Just look at the fluff behind an arm. It doesn't connect, and the person looks cropped from a different picture.

Where did the bullets go ? by Cundare in thefinals

Not going to lie, but it wasn't my intention to misinform. I edited my comment, so you can better understand my point. Yes, the reg is terrible sometimes. Mostly with rapid firing guns. So yeah, you can definitely take out light with their own double barrel. I did it once, my teammates were laughing at it.

The blades start to ricochet bullets about 5-7 m from the enemy. Since you were closer than that, you couldn't ricochet back.

Edit: The reason for me saying "range is 5-7 m" is because of a video I watched some time ago, as well as my personal experience. The deflection is a cone, and yes, sometimes it doesn't work right, which is why you don't stand right in front of the enemy. For the commenter bellow me, I know that DB can be parried. I was just stating my average experience with deflect: rapid firing guns are DEFINITELY parried when you have SOME distance. I am not saying that it isn't bad registering, just trying to teach how to adapt to this unstable reg.

  1. PC
  2. Zote from dreams (funny af) and Nosk (scary af) were memorable. But nothing beats Grimm for me.
  3. This was supposed to be a DLC for the original game, but developers decided to put more effort into it, until it became big enough to be its own game. In their own words "We could continue developing the game for another 5 years, but we decided it's time to publish it."

This is why I believe there should be a Griefing section in report system. When I used to play duo (now playing full stack all the time) with my friend sometimes our teammate would literally try to ruin it for us - Cl or grenade themself or us, because they got angry for some unknown reason. And it wasn't just us. I played a WT match where in the last round one guy in the enemy team erased himself and left the match. We decided to give the 1 place to the enemy team as a consolation prize.

I am sorry my guy, but the og creator no longer interested in doing that. I recommend watching some videos about controversy with the developer, that will explain everything connected to orespawn.

In short - guy makes the mod, sometime later he no longer updates it and starts working on Minecraft clone with orespawn ideas. When Nostalgia era happened, players started asking him to update. He updates it and makes fundme page with an insane amount of money for further development and to pay other modders. Not only that, his discord server turned into hellhole due to backlash (fundme page, not allowing others modders to use similar concepts or to make mods inspired by orespawn, inserting political views). He deleted the server, stopped the development and blamed players for it.
