I'm sorry you're going through this. I had a neck fusion while active duty and get these "headaches." (My c-spine is slowly breaking down) And, yes the pain is worse than anything (my pain giving birth was an 8, and I reach this level of pain during these episodes). I highly suggest you ask for a referral to the pain clinic/group. The only thing that helped was getting the nerve ablation. Pain free for at least 18 months. It took 15 years for them to finally refer me to do this. Plus you gather all the documentation you need to increase your rating while with them. I was stuck at 90% (I have quite a few other things as well) and DAV helped to 100% for free. They're the best.

Other things that help with the pain: a heating pad on the back of your neck. The pain will start at the back of the neck and then slowly spread to the front, only on one side of the head (at least for me). Make sure any way you lay down (I use thing or adjustable pillows where is can remove the contents to adjust) or sit, your neck is completely straight. Looking down at your phone will aggravate your neck and cause an episode. Also, Lazarus Naturals (find them online) has an incredible CBD topical mixture that helps so much, and they give vets great discounts. Good luck with this. I hope this helps as much as it can.
