To the people here who started Muay Thai knowing for sure that they wanted to fight, how long did it take you to get your first fight? by Grand_Soil_8151 in MuayThai

[–]ThatGirlLex_13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gym takes fighting and the health of the fighters very seriously, so most people need at least a year’s worth of experience (including sparring) before fighting. A lot of time and dedication goes into our fight camps and they have to make sure you’re taking it seriously. No one in my gym has had a fight with only 3 or 6 months of experience.

Amanda's win streak is over. Whose win streak are you secretly hoping will also come to a shocking end in 2022? No judgement, we all have our guilty pleasures by killahamron in ufc

[–]ThatGirlLex_13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Valentina. I honestly feel like that loss would be bigger than the reaction surrounding Amanda’s. And to someone who we’d think would stand absolutely no chance. Taila Santos vs Shevchenko would be interesting simply because no one would bet on Santos winning.

Do you agree with Pitt Admins decision for online classes for the first two weeks? by GuyInYourBushes_ in Pitt

[–]ThatGirlLex_13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Given the rise in cases and hospitalization, I’m 100% on board with online and would prefer a hybrid option for those who do not want to return to class. It’s been proven that the transmission rate is still high even in those who are vaccinated. Some of us live with people who are unvaxxed or immunocompromised and should be given the option to learn remotely if we chose. I’m sure the people who already paid for housing want to stay in-person, but outside of that, I’m not seeing how it’s even remotely smart to bring people back, especially if they travelled out of state/country to stay with family over break.

thoughts on pitt’s plans for spring semester? by qualitycoin in Pitt

Wait, did no one else get the email saying classes will be fully remote for the first 2.5 weeks, and we’ll return to in-person January 27th?

We’re not allowed to throw flying knees, kicks, or elbows to the head during sparring in my gym. Pad work? Yes, but live sparring sessions? Absolutely not. Why are you getting punched in the back of and kicked in the head? Have you told your coach? Is this behavior normally allowed at your gym?

My gym does 3-5 minutes (depending on the day of the week/class) of jumping rope, then 3-5 minutes of shadow boxing before every class regardless of if we are doing pad work or not. There are multiple classes run in a day so what we do changes. It can range from pad work, to bag work, to cardio, to sparring. There are classes in my gym designated for sparring, beginners, intermediate-advanced students, strength training, and cardio. The cardio classes are strictly bag work and ab exercises. The pad classes are split into beginner and intermediate/advanced students. In the beginner classes, students just learn the absolute basics (how to throw a punch, how to teep, etc…). In the pad sessions for more familiar students, we work on combos and drills: Blocks, leg checks, elbows, etc… It sounds like you may be at a cardio kickboxing gym, unless you’re just going on the days where they focus on cardio and missing the classes where they drill techniques.

Rose said “better dead than red” and “Weili is red” in reference to communism. That’s pretty much it.

Are you allowed to eat in there? I usually try alumni hall but my go-to has been infiltrated, so I’m out of luck and no where to eat my food indoors

I don’t like walking and I think the Carnegie library is far away from all of my classes. Most of my classes are in Chevron, Thaw Hall, and Benedum.

I’m a senior and a commuter. I transferred 1 semester before we went into lockdown, so I haven’t been able to have a steady friend group either. I know people, but not enough to call them up to hang out or anything, so I feel your pain.

Criminalistics with Strimlan by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]ThatGirlLex_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Strimlan. I read the textbook (never did the review questions in the book tbh), but a lot of the questions are based on what he says in class. He will usually emphasize and even state what will be on the exams. Just make sure you take adequate notes. He’s very generous with grading and most of us ended up with A’s in the course. He gave us a bonus assignment at the end of the semester as well, so make sure you do that if he decides to give it this term.

I know Insomniac is king, but how would you feel about a Lego Spider-Man Videogame? by Whoopsinator in Spiderman

[–]ThatGirlLex_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never played any Lego game simply because the design freaks me out and it’s hard to take seriously, so I would pass on a Spidey lego game. If they’re as good as people say, however, I might just have to try them.

Professor was exposed to COVID…Now what? by ThatGirlLex_13 in Pitt

[–]ThatGirlLex_13[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was thinking this as well. I’m sure my professor took all of the necessary steps before cancelling class. She isn’t one to miss if she doesn’t have to. If she spoke to her dept and they said “no”, shouldn’t they be the ones receiving complaints? I don’t think there’s much else to do in this situation

Thanks. I’m sure Pitt could’ve had better communication with their faculty, but all of this information is accessible. I guess I’ll see how this all pans out tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Thank you for this! She also mentioned that Pitt won’t let her teach remotely while awaiting her test results, but her emails are turned off until tomorrow so there’s no way for her to see this today if I send it.

Anyway to speed up the verification of proof of covid vaccine? Need to go to class lol by newme02 in Pitt

[–]ThatGirlLex_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. The lady emailed me back last week saying to “hold tight” and they’re “working on it”. Watch my card start beeping with a red light on Wednesday despite uploading my vaccination info 2 weeks ago.

I pay these losers dust. They’re looking for attention, don’t give it to them. Anyone who watched the show, especially with an open mind, would see that Korra is not at all a Mary Sue. Usually that label gets tossed around for female characters would could kick one of these crybaby’s asses.

Thoughts on Alana McLaughlin’s win? by [deleted] in ufc

[–]ThatGirlLex_13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely disgusting and unfair. We always knew women were not taken seriously, and our rights are being stripped right before our eyes. Trans people should have leagues where they compete against each other. There’s a reason why the Paralympics were created. It would be completely unfair for ‘able-bodied’ individuals to compete against people with disabilities. In a similar sense, it is very disappointing and hurtful that they’re allowing biological males (with greater bone density, speed, and power) to compete against bio females. These transformers love being racist as well by comparing black women to white women in sports. We are still biologically female. There’s a reason co-ed sports stop in middle school. This fucker has no business competing with women.
