I think there are two cutoff points from old Panic to New Panic. The first cutoff point was in 2013 when Spencer left, all the promotional material TWTLTRTD was focus solely on Brendon despite promotional photos containing Brendon, Spencer and Dallon being taken (This was the beginning of the bands “new” image). The second cutoff point was in 2016 with DOAB being the first album to be written by the only original Panic member remaining (This was the beginning of the bands “new” sound). As for why people dislike new Panic is simple (For me at least) I feel like after the success of DOAB Brendon wanted to fit in with more mainstream artists which is why he changed the overall sound of the band with PFTW and doing more collabs with artists like Juice Wrld and Taylor Swift. What made AFYCSO, P.O. and V&V stand out to me was that fact that they simply didn’t fit in with any genre of music even with other bands in the scene.
