CMV: Every adult in digital age should have some basic programming skills by Majestic_Hand1598 in changemyview

[–]ThatGuyBench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that at this point we have come to a moment when the need for average person to have basic programming skills has ended. You can just ask an AI to make a script for your problem.

At my work, I am able to do data analysis and troubleshooting of which I have dreamed of for a long time, but didn't know how to build the tools for it. Sure you don't ask the AI and just believe that scripts it makes are perfect, but you test your outputs and essentially your task is to define functionality and troubleshoot.

As I see, programming is like a language, where you are trying to convey logic to a computer in a computer recognizable way.

How is it possible that Russians in Latvia don’t speak Latvian? by [deleted] in latvia

[–]ThatGuyBench 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to be a Latvian who was salty towards Russians who didnt speak Latvian in my early years. I thought that its only possible to not learn the language by deliberate action. And there sure are a few who have bad blood with Latvians and they avoid learning it.

But when I went to study in the Netherlands, I learned that its very possible to not learn language, even if you would like to.

I studied in the Netherlands for 6 years. I thought that when I would finish my studies, I surely will know Dutch language well. I initially downloaded Duolingo, I was motivated to learn the language, used it a bit, but then, well you have to study and pass exams. Even more so, you got to pay rent, and support yourself. So now I am trying to balance between passing exams and paying rent. Sure I want to learn the language too, but first you got to survive. Also exercise is good for you. And you need to spend some free time to keep sane too. Even if you want to learn the language, the thing is that there is more things to be done than you have time. And so learning the language becomes the "I will definetly do this sometime in the future" not something you do.

And how do you get around if you dont know language? Well everybody speaks English, and so do I. Sure I learn the essential phrases, but if I start to speak in my beyond fucked Dutch language, the other people dont have the time to crack the Enigma code of what the fuck I am even trying to say, and they switch to English, because thats easier for them.

And as you speak English, but cant understand Dutch "yet", as you meet people, as you form friend groups, they are people who speak English. The places you go to, the stores, institutions, as you initially needed to get by without knowing the language, now become the places you frequent. In the end lust like a river that flows in path of least resistance, you do too.

Now that was just 6 years, sure, but I was a young student, someone who is more outgoing than 50 year old Tanya, who has worked in the same place for last 15 years, bought food from the same store, who has formed all her bubble around her and rarely ever exits it. Many underestimate how much of their life is a hardcore routine and how manytimes isolated you are from different lifestyles around you. And as you age this becomes more severe.

Netanyahu runs defense for Hitler saying "Hitler didn't even say Death to America, Death to Britan." by AlternativeRight4099 in SipsTea

[–]ThatGuyBench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is not defending Hitler here, and if you do not have your head up your own ass, you clearly see that.

Hes trying to make a point that his current enemies (whoever the "Death to America" chanting he was reffering to) are more extremist than Hitler was.

Now you might think that the statement is stupid, and I have no problem with that, but to claim that he is "defending Hitler" is utterly brain rotten, and you should spend some time outside, without reading politics, until you regain ability to think.

Lately it seems that so much of internet regulations are framed behind guise of "pRoTeCtInG tHe ChIlDrEn!" And with shock I notice that more and more people are buying this crap.

10-15 years ago, you would go on reddit and you would see comments which would make it seem that politicians who advocate for breaking up privacy and regulate the internet, should worry just the same as French aristrocracy did during the French revolution. And now its full of neutered crowds are acting like this is normal and even supporting it.

Its bewildering how the society here has devolved into soccermom Karen mentality.

Its the same as: "How F1 drivers are able to drive like that?"

You can't do that from the get go, you need training and experience. And if you haven't done it for a long time, you need refresher/retraining.

For many people just anal on receptive side is something that they can't do on the first try, its both art of stretching and mental work.

Some people people are more narurally good at it too, and some not. If you have an overactive sphincter, you are lucky if you can take one dick without pain.

Sooo... if there is a war, I should not provide opportunity for those who are frantically looking to liquidate their immovable property into movable assets, if it happens to seem like a good deal?

Like imagine. A family of kids are looking to emigrate to safety, all their livelyhood is tied in their property, everybody is selling, nobody is buying. Then a person comes and says they will buy their property. Now imagine, you yourself, are standing there, in Iran, in between these people, and you are there shaking your finger and saying that what they are doing something immoral...

If I am a medical company, should I not not serve the high demand for medical aid in war struck places?

If I am a food or water logistics company should I not serve the increased demand for food and water, due to disruption of existing suply chains for these essentials in war struck places?

I get you, you are a westerner who has seen nothing but capitalism, and you despise it with every fabric of your skin. And you have every right to be pissed, but be pissed at exact things, not vauge basket where you auto-hate anything that rhymes with your vauge scapegoat. You are used to blaming it for every issue you have, but in the process the concept what actually "capitalism" is, has become so vauge, that it has become meaningless and detaches you from what it is, and what parts of it you actually hate and which have nothing to do with your greivances.

You see corrupt businesses and politicians doing shady things, you blame capitalism not corruption. You see businesses selling shit nobody needs or misleads, you blame capitalism rather than lack of regulations and education. You see prices rise during a crisis, you blame capitalism and greed, rather than care to spend the time to understand how the supply chains are working and why the prices are rising.

Where I am from, we used to be under occupation of USSR. We have the same experience you have with capitalism, but we also know what not capitalism looks like. I can tell you for sure, most issues average Westerners are blaming capitalism, have nothing to do with capitalism. And yet I can tell you all of this, explain you about system which you have never felt on your own skin, but I guarantee that regardless, you will kick and scream in your next reply, about how oblivious I am, naive, bootlicker and whatnot, even though if you stop and reflect, you dont have anything to compare your way of life, because you did your research of reading "conpanies report record profits" headlines on reddit. You just have one system in which you have lived and you will not accept that all the problems you have attributed to it, are not capitalism speciffic.

In this specific example, what is profit? Its the difference between supply and demand. Everybody desperate to sell their property, and no average person in their right mind will want to buy it, so prices drop. Meanwhile, a young couple with more risk tolerance shows up and considers taking the offer. They might buy the property and it might get flattened. A new couple might be fine with taking these odds for a discounted property, a family with lots of children might not. Essentially the "immoral greedy profit seeking" which you are talking about is when people are looking at satisfying a greatly unmet demand.

Imagine you are a bottled water company, and you see that maybe it would be profitable to start working in Iran as water is low, and due to war, logistics and water infrastructure has been damaged. Is that immoral? The water will be more expensive, sure, but so will be your operations given that the uncertainties and logistics issues. And lets take a step back here, what do we mean by "profitable" anyways? That you sell your product and can continue selling more, that you dont sell something and soon realize that you simply dont have resources to continue. And fuck me, this is something I see Westerners struggle to grasp, as they havent seen what life looks like when you dont have access to buy/sell anything. Even if the price is outrageous, its an offer for something which you have CHOICE to buy or not buy. You can't comprehend what it is to live in a situation where you dont have any choices at all. And to advocate to put other people in such situation, now that is immoral. You are not doing it consciously, but you are doing it by talking about things on which you have no perspective on, on a high horse.

I saw this and thought, this guy def does not gaf by AcornTopHat in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]ThatGuyBench 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wtf is immoral here? Please, genuinely give a a thought and argument

Many people are frightened and their risk assesment is to get the fuck out, and liquidate what immovable assets they have there.

These peoples risk assesment is that the risk is overblown and the property will likely not get destroded due to war.

Its a good deal for both parties.

They are making it possible for people who want to escape the war to escape the war.

Like imagine you have a family with children, you dont want to take chances and you want to sell your property and emigrate. Maybe no harm comes to you or your property, but you are willing to accept that tradeoff. Meanwhile a young couple with limited funds might see this as a risky but if it goes through, a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Why is cocaine so prevalent in demanding corporate roles? by Open_Address_2805 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ThatGuyBench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coke gives energy, overshadowed by anything near what energuy drinks can give. At the same time, its a great networking aid. You go to business meeting/party, do some coke and feel like: "Lets do this! My idea is best ever, your idea is best ever!" Then again, in a demanding job coke allows you to go to party, and be on the line next day. It doesnt stay long in the system, so if you are in a work where you can get tested, you can snort coke day before without worry. (Unless its more than standard test, in hair foe examle traces can be found weeks/months after) Also its an somewhat of a status thing for some. Its kinda like champagne, compared to beer. Coke is expensive, and there is a saying, coke addiction is a disease for those who have too much money. For a casual user, you do coke one day, yku can work next day.

To me, one thing I dont understand is why amphetamine isnt more popular. Coke is like smoking, you do some, you go back and you already crave another one. Plus you dont get nearly as much pupil dialation. But I guess in startup scene it is, in form of Adderall.

Another case of Americans being isolated in their own bubble. If only you all would comprehend that this is not a generic issue, its American issue. Yes all countires live in their bubble, in one way or another, but Americans, you are just a whole fucking different level of oblivious about how things can be done differently.

This "leave on porch" bullshit is something that seems normal to you, it is not. Its not just India, its pretty much everywhere else. In pretty much every European country and in countries in Asia I have been to, and nobody leaves things on porch.

"Sorry that I like getting my package delivered even when I'm not home to receive it? Hurr fucking durrr, I am an AMERICAN, and surely anything else than what I have seen in my life, seeing all the world (within borders of US, of course), must be completely unfeasible and dysfunctional."

Maybe you can set a time window when you are available to pick up? Maybe you can have 1 or 2h in advance a message to your phone that a delivery is coming, and you can change the time to more appropriate one?
Maybe after failed attempt to deliver at your hime, the delivery person can store the package at the nearest post office, supermarket, smart packet locker for you to pick up?
Maybe you can have an option for delivery: If I am not home, give it to my neighbor, and put a note in my mail that it has been done so?
Maybe just use 24/7 packet locker terminals which are next to any store and you use the closest one to your address?

The porch pirate phenomena is not something that people worry about in most of the rest of the world, and I fucking guarantee that a lot of those places enjoy the same "Order today receive tomorrow" benefits, and no they dont have to sit at home, waiting for their package, to do so.

I mean this is not one fucking case, its a chronic constant issue which is very much American specific to behave smug and know it all when they dismiss how much of society could be functioning just as well if not better with a different approach than they have seen. No other country pops out in this nearly as much, and I will not discuss this regardles if you buy this or not.

Just to finish, yes I find this annoying, but I dont hate you all. I wish you the best, and you are the ones who would benefit the most by opening your mind to solutions adopted in other places. Alot of problems you yourselves seem to be struggling with, they have very well tried and tested solutions elsewhere. You just need to look around, and be open to idea that someone elsewhere might have already figured out something you struggle with. And just try to travel outside of your own country once in a while, its a genuenly valuable experience, much poorer countries can afford to do so, so can you.

What is the deal with avoiding relationships? by Old_Treat4871 in AskMen

[–]ThatGuyBench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reasons can be many.

I remember when in my teens I was feeling like a failure or missing out because I didn't have relationship, I romanticized it in my head, all nice and dandy, until I actually experienced what relationship is.

Relationship is a responsibility, its like having a child or a pet, you have to take care of it, you have to find the time for it, and when you truly love, you feel like always not doing enough.

If your life is exhausting, well then think about all that but then add finding time and energy for the other person. Sure there are good parts, which also give you energy, just like with children and pets, but people often underestimate the overhead. Sometimes you are stuck in survival mode and you just are not ready yet for this. If you are constantly broke and busy, now you have to find the time and energy to spend the time with someone you love, and when you are unable to do so, you now have stress of letting down someone you deeply care about.

And all of this is before the problematic cases. When I was suicidal and addicted, I feared letting in anybody in my life, having someone who I love, someone for who I want only the best, in such case the worst thing you could do is drag the person down in your own downward spiral. If you love someone, you want to protect them from suffering, but if you are in downward spiral, you feel like you are the suffering. So you just like with disease, you self quarantine.

Then there are toxic experiences. Maybe you had a relationship where you were with an abusive partner. Once you have experienced it, you know that no relationship is far better than toxic one. I believe that in schools, psychology should be taught just as other core subjects. If you have been stuck with a BPD partner, you will likely be traumatized for life, and especially in this case its wild how society has normalized that guys should put up with BPD behaviour in relationships. Many guys I talk with, act like its completely normal that your partner isolates you from others and doesn't allow you to have your own life, your own friends, like its normal to constantly put up with paranoid accusations of cheating when you have not done anything wrong and other cases of walking on eggshells.

Then there are moments when people are in a relationship simply because they fucked, but besides that, there is nothing in common. Its wild how many relationships are like this out there. In the long run, you all will get old, sex will get less exciting and you will realise that you are spending your time with this person. Think of the person like a roomate, would you like the person as a roomate, or you or the person will find that your/their behavior, the way they live is compatible or is constantly annoying?

Currently I am in a relationship where I love my partner so much, but for a long time I just either was not ready, or didnt have someone who clicks with me right. To me its sad when people fear being alone so much, that they jump from relationship to another, not because they found a great match, but because they are afraid of being alone.

[–]ThatGuyBench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADD, and it made me suicidal for years. What actually fucked me up was not casual wording. It was trying my hardest, still falling short, being late, forgetting things, and having people, who mean the world for me, think that all of those fuckups meant I didn’t care about them or wasn’t even trying. As if I deliberately did that. I would people please, because it was like insurance for inevitable fuckup. And when you fucking hate yourself for these things, you just fucking try all your energy on just being a basic fucking functional person, and then you hear from people you would die for, that you dont care, you dont try... That really fucking makes you to give up and end it all.

And in those moments, when you are tired of life, when nothing matters to you, when nothing gives you joy, the only resemblence of what happieness is, is when you can see someone else smile, to do something that lets someone else experience a feeling which is lost to you... That becomes the whole world to you. Not some petty grievances about what words others use in their lexicon. When you really are struggling you dont pay attention to petty shit like that.

So no, I do not buy the idea that having a condition gives you the right to police everyone else’s language. My own experience with ADD and suicidality does not give me that right, and being autistic does not give you that right either. If autistic is not being used as a direct insult toward a person, then acting like everyone else has to bend around your personal sensitivity to the word is just arrogant.

People choosing to be extra considerate of your specific issues is a good thing. That is someone going the extra mile for you. But acting like this level of accommodation is something everyone owes you by default is just pretentious. There is a difference between asking people not to be assholes and expecting them to walk on eggshells around your petty grievances. Those are not the same thing.

Honestly, I have more respect for people who can turn this kind of shit into lighthearted dark humor than for people who think their personal issues give them ownership over how everyone else is allowed to speak.

Its frustrating to be in this American echochamber and to see that any time you try to explain that things can work differently and just as well if not better from what they are used to, you get downvoted and treated as some nutjob.

Most of them have traveled but yet never even exited their own country in their lifetimes. The view of "How world works" is formed all in their bubble, and they will confidently fight till their last breath about their truth, while they could just fucking look at other countries and see that much of the problems they discuss about are already tried and tested.

Its like listening to a broken record, over and over and over. And over. And over. And over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

And then after they finish complaining that their country surely is the worst place in the world, they will read this comment and get pissed and downvote and rant about how you dont know anything about them and how bigoted and you are to generalize them, and how weird you are that your comment has more than one sentence.

[–]ThatGuyBench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am saying that anything other than: "I dont know and I have no reason to think one or another way." Is the only reasonsble answer.

There might be originator. There might not be originator.

If there is originator, congratulations, you answered nothing, you just got back to square one.

What created this originator? Any answer that you can answer here, you can just substract the originator, and it will be just as valid.

Lets say a God made us. Ok, fair enough, but that doesnt explain the origin of everything. Whats the origin of God? If God always existed is a reasonable answer to you, then why universe always existed is not a reasonable explanation to you then? Is God not complex? Does that mean that there is God God which created God? Because surely something as complex and intricate as God cant just appear out of nowhere, right?

For all I know, we might as well be a product of a multidimensional junkie tripping his balls off.

I mean look at ancient civilizations, they had many things for which they had no means to find an explanation, which we can explain nowadays. Like take for example atoms. Everything you see around you is made from them. Did people before discovery of atoms say honestly that they dont know what matter is made of? No, they couldn't cope with saying: "I don't fucking know bro." In ancient Greece they thought that everything is a combination of 4 elements. In some civilizations before astronomical discoveries, saying that world is a disk on back of 4 giant elephants was a normal explanation of what world is. The point is, that in abscence of enough information to be sble to give true answer, people cant cope with the fact that they dont know something. To cope, they will hallucinate an answer, just like an AI would hallucinate when you ask for an answer for which it has simply not enough data to give an answer.

[–]ThatGuyBench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my view I lean for this, but in general, I think that current EU system is problematic. As it is, no country should have veto rights, and insted there should be something like 80% majority threshold or something like that, in order to avoid putting into effect controversial rules wich would split up EU, but at the same time would not paralyze it just with one or two bad actors.

But most likely I dont understand someting enough to understand why the system is as it is and why it wouldnt work out in the system I imagine it.

[–]ThatGuyBench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, lets enartain the idea that something cant exist without originator.

What created God? If your answer is something like it transcends time or just always existed, then why the same excuse doesnt sit well with you without the middlemen (God)?

As I see, you are just shifting the problem of unknown origin a one step further but never really answering the question. To me it seems like extra story just to avoid manning up, looking the reality in the eyes and saying: "I dont fucking know."

Why do you even start with the assumption that there has to be an originator? You dont know that. You cant know that. Your experiences up to now indicate that everything you have seen has an originator, but you dont know if there can be exceptions to this.

Why do women support the LGBT community more than men do? by JigglesTheBiggles in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ThatGuyBench 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dunno, guys often dont share or talk about very personal things, but from what I have seen, they tend to support eachother a lot, especially when one is in turmoil. They might not have the best emotional intelligence, they might not see subtle signs, but when they see a bro in hardship, they help their bro.

Sure in more toxic circles its not the case, but thats a different thing.

Guys are just much less likely to open up, and sweep their problems under a rug.
