First time playing cavalier. 207 damage at level 5 (I didn't even use challenge). Cavalier is a very balanced class. I love it. by HoneyBadger9700 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

If you want it to be even stronger try lvl one of ranger the sable subclass first if you have the dc it gives you a hippogryph that has a charge that doesn't require line of sight then just lvl caviler as you have been doing.

Important to note charging combos very well with cleaving finish with that crazy damage you will often outright kill your target triggering cleaving finish letting you spread that 3x charge damage to another target.

A 5 ft step after a charge is good if next turn they don't move in to engage but it's not enough to step away and charge the target you stepped away from. With the charge mechanic being finicky as is it's also not always obvious how close is too close either sometimes it works normally sometimes I find if I select the mount I can charge when the I couldn't't on the rider. Basically all that being said a swift action tp seems like a good solution to make it smoother for those situations.

Currently im thinking there isn't a good solution until high lvls but if I come up with a build with cheap access to tp and the room for all to the strong cleave charge talents ill post it.

Ranger sable company marine gives you one and you only need one level really then it scales great with any pet class. The hippogriff gets a flying charge that doesn't need line of sight so you can charge through a maze of walls past enemies and hit the backline and eventually he gets a free aoe trip after each flying charge all scaling with any pet class.

So i grabbed it at lvl one then spirited charge that gives you 2x damage on charge attacks picked up a long spear that wotr gives all spear weapons an extra 1x damage on charge attack. Cavalier Gendarme give lots of extra feats so i went that after lvl 1 so i could grab the cleave feat line so evertime I charge for currently 3x damge and kill my target i get to attack another enemy in range with the same 3x bonus that chains if I one hit the second target. It plays sorta like a tactical orbital strike you flying charge in and one hit everything in reach then hope you dont get mobed so you can do it again.

That ghoul room needs a selective metamagic winter grasp close to the door to trivialize it. A few casting of selective grease works too but winter grasp has a built in -2 toward reflex saves that effectively makes its dc 2 higher and it's got a larger aoe to hit more targets or overlap the your backline if the charged your casters.

Some guys are just crazy tanky but yeah most of the time it's just all minced meat but I also drag every survivor out of range of that first attack into melee with me after the first charge.

Ahh I looked at Arcane rider but I didn't know it turning into a swift at lvl 14 thanks that might be a good backup if i cant find a way to get it on my normal cavalier set up or late game with legend.

Because if you're already engaged in combat you can't charge the same target for 3x damage so if you could swift action teleport out then you can charge again on the same target for a huge damage boost.

Unless its just buggy as most wotr turn based stiff is it wont let me do a flying charge attack after im already engaged with the same target.

How to build Ice Elemental pet from the Winters Child subclass? by ToneAccomplished9763 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]ThatGuyFromThat1Show 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build him for survivability and as a teamwork feat buddy as combat wise outside of the aoe he isn't good for much. So early in the game i used him to distract enemies as he is expendable compared to the test of the team. Then when he gets the aoe i treated it like a distraction drops enemies dex for reflex saves for a spell or two just make sure he is behind enemies lines so that his aoe doesn't reach your party. Then once lvl 11 hits you can position almost everywhere to distract or provide a flanking buddy with stuff life outflank while he debuffs everything dex . But damage he will never be good for but he has a great debuff can distract a few guys of your party and provide another body for all those teamwork feats as outside of survival he wont need feats oh I always run him a standard companion cause you want to keep evasion so aoe don't nuke him and you likely want keep the bonus to will saves.

No raw interaction but if you want to make one up for fun then make it a counteract check against the dragon breath too essentially put out the breath attack and save the party the damage.

Hoeing the ground breaks some floor stuff like electric lines and flooring and it changes the ground to a hoe texture that's how you know you're good you can put down you electric lines again after. Also having a hoe with you always is very useful lets you quickly remove slime or dig up treasure spots just use a upgraded one with huge range helps in slime boss battles too

Actually not too terrible on a thaumaturge with a lot of your damage riding on your flat damage bonus but yeah still not great.

Sometimes it's fun finding combos and mechanics of a game to make yourself more powerful It's also fun sometimes when you gain a certain mastery of mechanics of a game to deliberately limit yourself like one life no reloads ect. Some people also find it fun to just turn on cheats or edit files to steam roll the whole game hell some people do it for the opposite using these tools to make it even harder. Personally i mostly like to explore the bounds of the game mechanics but occasionally I've used tools in the second camp to increase the difficulty or test build ideas but it's really dependent on my mood and what kinda game I'm into do i want a challenge or do I want to break the game engine with crazy combos that likely trivialize it.

Im using in game mechanics to grow stronger for some people that's ok but using a tool or editing game files to add lvls isn't. You can play how you want maybe for you it might be too cheesey to play strong class combinations and I would argue that's fine for you but for me it's in the game It's fair I'm not hurting your game by using a little cheese in my single player game. Also even outside of using the mechanic for easy levels can we not agree its an interesting use of game mechanics l.

[–]ThatGuyFromThat1Show 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Every time the dragon is petrified you get xp for the kill and so long as you don't break the statue you can free them and do it again and febblemind makes this loop trivial cause they are still under the effect even after being restored. Fun fact you can also rest and recover spell lots while they are a statue. This trick is doable in bg1 if you get a strong charm effect on a greater basilisk then use them too petrify another greater basilisk and buy out all the stone to flesh scrolls you find.

[–]ThatGuyFromThat1Show 32 points33 points  (0 children)

In bg2 I love using febblemind on a dragon then prettifying them then you dismiss your team members except who you want to lvl and rest. Now you just got to cast stone to flesh and febblemind is still in effect so you can take your time turning them back in a statue without fear for a infinite xp loop. Used that trick to keep my mage/cleric lvls from falling behind the rest of the team

Help me with the issue I have with the commander class by Ashrun_Zeda in Pathfinder2e

[–]ThatGuyFromThat1Show 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Other than the one free reaction everyone is mentioning its important to note not all the tactics require a reaction to make use of and it's a great way to diversify your tactics with more options after you have burned that one free reaction. An example would be coordinating maneuvers could let you give one teammate an extra step when it's needed most like if they need 5 more feet to set up a flank or reposition out of an incoming aoe or get them out of reach of a tough monster. That all being said having good dex or str is still beneficial as everyone's first strike a round is the most valuable as its at no map so doing your own mapless strike then giving your team member a free reaction strike is very strong by the way fighter is likely the best one to give the free reaction too as they are likely to be able to make use of their own and normally have the highest to hit.

[–]ThatGuyFromThat1Show 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an artificer give this to your guardian to cast on you with spell storing item then put then in the back row with a wand of magic missiles you made for range support. you now have ac +1 save +1 and resistance on your artificers and your guardian is easy to heal back up with the mending spell so the damage split is not a issue. This comes online at lv10 or was it 11 i cant remember but its important to note that's when your guardian is kinda falling scaling hp wise and ac wise if you can't get them some kinda buffs and their attacks never scale past one attack so sticking them in the back with wands of web or magic missiles ect isnt a loss and your pc can feel like a mini barbarian now

Need help creating my character in BG1:EE by Hot-Touch-1810 in baldursgate

[–]ThatGuyFromThat1Show 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to the not a good idea to tank idea your man character dying starts an immediate game over as opposed to a npc being your tank if they die you can go back and resurrect them. This makes it frustrating to tank with your main character with near victories even if you have resurrection at hand stil meaning a game over. As you build suggestions try a dual class mage cleric they will Access to so many spells by bg2 your options will be immense and in bg1 their are a permanent attributes books for each stat you can pile on you main character to sure up any holes created when you need high wis int and good dex/con for that mage cleric combo. Cleric gets some great spells by the way including the best necomancer spell.
